Red Sox are on the downward end of a dominant stretch, the divison will realign itself as it should and has been for most of its history, Yankees 1st, Red Sox 2nd, Jays 3rd, Rays 4th and the perennial bottom feeder Orioles 5th.  

Sox lost Daisuk for at least a month, no Schilling, Wakefield is garbage (at least against the Yankees he is), Lester and Beckett are studs, but thats it.  Sabathia laways starts rough in April, Burnett has been great, Wang will bounce back once he gets confidence back in his stuff, and Pettitte is pitching like Pettitte circa 2003.  Joba is good enough to keep us in games for the most part.   Yankees will get scalding hot somewhere in early May,  They do it pratically every year

The Sox are on a downslide might be accurate but, the only part you left out is that the Yankees are coming down faster. We have young pitching, and prospects available for alot of positions unlike the yankees. For god sake there are empty seats behind home plate and you built a stadium that holds less people!!!!!!! The yankees are in just as much trouble as the Redsox. Sabathia is over rated Look how horriable he pitched against the Sox in his career!!! Oh and Dice K might be out but I believe the pitcher used in his place gave up 1 run yesterday!!!!

Sabathia single handedly got a team into the playoffs who hadn't been there in 25 years, Wang is killing me so far as much as I like the guy, but he will turn it around.  Masterson is, eh average, but I wouldn't count on him long term yet.  As for no farm system, we are actually quite stacked in almost every position minus 3rd base (the only one we need), an Baseball America claims us the 4th highest rated minor league system in baseball.  I think we'll be OK.

The teams with less injuries win. I'm a sox fan but, honestly I think the sox and Yankees match up very well this year. I give a slight edge to the sox over the entire season just due to the depth of the pitching staff, and bullpen. Offensively we are about equal.

You forget we got a guy named Burnett who is every bit capable of doing exacly what Beckett does, our pitching matches up well, but I give us an edge in the backend of the rotation (You have Penny, Wakefield and Masterson, matching up to Wang (he will get right as the season goes on), Chamberlain, Pettitte (who is 3-0 and has pitched 7 innings in each of his first 3 starts giving up 2 runs or less in each) your lineup is currently better as we have a gimpy Matsui, No A-rod, No Nady, No more Abreu.  On the flipside, Cano very well may win the batting title this year, he is hitting .370 so far, and Jeter is scorching as well(I know you Red Sox fans hate him to death (similar to how I want to rip my eyebrows out every time Youkilis comes to bat), but the guy is just that good)

that chicago/celtics game was a good one too. i was watching it at work and a couple guys all stopped working out at the gym to watch the game.

Well, just chiming in here, 3 straight games of good starts/appearances from our pitchers, with the exception of our bullpen hiccup on wednesday night (6 shutout, 7 1 run, 7 4 runs (3 earned)), and finally hitting in the clutch, Looks out Sox, Yankees are starting to hit their stride, also getting A-rod back in the next 7-10 days, were coming for you!!

IDK Bro I'm as big an baseball nut as you but to me, it seems almost every player has done something underhanded or suspect at this point.  Which leads me to my next point and I want your honest opinion:

Since it seems the bulk of great/mediocre players were on the stuff, does that even out the playing field, we keep hearing about all these hitters with blown up stats, but what of the countless pitchers using.  Doesn't that sort of even it all out?  I kind of feel that way at times.

In addition, I think there are quite a few players on both the Yankees/Red Sox who were definitley NOT using over the last ten years:  Unfortunately, as much as i HATE this guy I think Schilling, as big headed and egotistical as he is, was playing the game clean (that hurt to type), as I also feel about guys Like Johnny Damon (both Sox and Yankees years), Derek Lowe, and more recent players like Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lowell, Jason Bay, etc, I believe are all clean and just that good, especially as frequently as they get tested these days.  On the Yankees end: Derek Jeter is way, way too high profile, and has way to much respect for the game as a whole, way too much to risk it + too many people would love to tarnish him if they could, so I'm as close to 100% sure as I can be that he didn't juice.  Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, Paul O'Neill, Scott Brosius and Tino Martinez are the only other guys from alllll those teams from 96 on that I truly believe/am confident didn't touch the stuff, everyone else probably did/was confirmed they did.  Including almost all of our pitching staff (Except Mike Mussina and David Cone).  

I hope to god I am right, but I think Pujols is all natural, he has stayed the same weight, build and condition throughout his whole career, every seasons numbers are pretty much the sazme across the board, Ichiro Suzuki is another amazing player I think is clear on this conversation, as I feel about young studs like Evan Longoria, David Wright, Jose Reyes, and so forth.

I actually disagree with you. I wouldn't be surprised at anyone at this point. There were plenty of guys that were not big that took stuff. The league as a whole is suspect now, and the good players(Non Users) are the ones who get punished for it becasuse they are the only ones that care about there reputations, and the reputation of the game.

Rivera has had a blown save, maybe two and couple of losses in tie games, unfortunately.

The verdict is out on Papi if he doesn't pick it up there will be a trade made. Bay is a great player but, I believe he's playing a bit over his head. Youkilis is just a beast his determination reminds me alot of(god I hate to say this) a young Derek Jeter. The Red Sox need a better defensive short stop. As always both teams will be okay and it will be a fun season to watch. The Yankees would be untouchable if they would stop being stubborn. There are two things that from the outside looking in could easily be fixed and make them 100 million times better.

So how does being second fiddle to the Yankees feel?  Bring back any memories of the pre-2004 days?  )

Your forgetting a sort of big thing reguarding schedule. The Red Sox are done on the west coast, and the Yanks haven't been. West cost trips are always bad for the teams.

Not when Upton has a power outage, Longoria is hurt all the time 75% of your good players are underproducing or on the DL, and with one reliable starter in Matt Garza, you're in trouble.  Only guy playing well on the Rays is Crawford and Zobrist.

Although I will agree with you, were not doing well this year at all, if everyone can get healty and hit a stride we might be up there with you guys.

lets talk about boxing.

Pena is on fire currently , he fell back to his usual ways for a LONG time, he had a ton of 0-4 with 3 KO's...lol.  Problem with Pena is as a cleanup hitter he strikes out WAY to much, he has a career average of .249.  Sure he'll hit 35-40 long balls and drive in 110-120 on the year, but hes also gonna strikeout 175-200 per season, which is entirely too much.

What has happend to Kazmier. This dude was supposed to be the next Nolan Ryan now he looks like Carl Pavano/Chin ming wang.

I read that not too long ago and was shocked that he is only getting a month in the pokey. They did take his liscense away for life with a chance to get it back in 5 years. Kinda hard when the Yankees win every single day, lol, the Rays don't have the pitching staff to do what they did last year.

Yanks got lucky the past week, Sox will come back, Rays are already 10 games over .500..........we got half a season to go man

68 games left, season is quickly coming down the stretch, the Rays have yet to make any sort of blip on the radar that indicates they are anything more than an 85-88 win team really.  Upton is awful this season, Crawford is the man (fantasy owner and proud of it), Longoria hasn't been 100% since early on and is probably still hurt, Kazmir is a shell of what he was the last 3 years (I unfortunately had high hopes for him for Fantasy, but hes just bad this season and has spent much of it on the DL(Chien-Ming Wang syndrome?))  And your teams major issue is you cannot win away from the Trop this year.  You guys are 22-27 on the road, your not making the playoffs with a .448 road winning percentage.  Even after losing 4 straight road games the Red Sox are still a .500 (24-24) road team, the Yankees are 25-21 on the road.  As my man Yogi Berra would say, its getting late early for the Rays this year, you caught lightening in a bottle last year and made a run to the World Series, which isn't easy to do, but the Rays remind me more of the 2006 Tigers who lostt in the series and are having a subpar year as a followup.   Also now that you guys have higher expectations, the pressure may be getting to some guys.  The losing team in the World Series for the last 5 years has had a very subpar season the following year with higher injury rates.

Oh man watch a sox game Lowell is hurting Kevin. He was a great player but, he can't really even run anymore. He's a shell of what he was prior to his injury. He's up there in age, and not recovering well. His defense is still A+ but, I would imigine lowell becoming a pinch hitter, and defensive substitute. Youk will play 3rd. A Buehrle-Peavy-Danks-Floyd rotation is quite dangerous, but the Sox can't fuckin hit so thats why I am hesitant to say they will definitley take that division.  the AL Central in general sucks this season..

Youkilis is pretty versitile we gave up in the 4th replacing one scrub with another on the mound. I have to admit Smoltz did better than I though I watched until the 4th I thought I would only make it to the second.

Uhm, wow, that was just dominance, I won't even talk any shit, but you guys need some serious help especially in that lineup, because if Texas really gets on a run, it is gonna be hard for you guys to even grab the wild card.  When are Daisuke, or Wakefield, due back? You need a solid starter ASAP, Lester and Beckett were great, however, and I gotta tip my cap to them.  

On your big trade pickup - Victor Martinez was not impressive to me until that last at bat this series, you got the guy to bat in the 3-4-5- hole, he looked like a deer in the headlights until that HR, IDK I never loved him in Cleveland either, hope he does well for you guys.

Other than Smoltz our pitching was solid. Buchholtz pitched very well to the umpire throwing out Ramon Ramirez cost us that game. That was the quickest trigger i've ever seen. That was also the most unintentional Hit by pitch i've ever seen. It's a marathon not a sprint can't be worried yet.

I haven't been able to stop smiling  :smile:  :mrgreen:  :o  and that brotha still scored 2 runs... for a minute I thought we was gonna loose when Martinez batted. 8-)

Wow, this is too funny but I unfortunately have to agree to an extent.  I am all about the Yankees, and love other Yankees fans to chime in, but yes, a lot of "fans" don't show up until times are good, where were these fans back in May and June when we lost two series to the Nationals and Marlins, got shutout but Atlanta and were 8 games out of first place, our pitching was struggling and so was our hitting, but ehh its the nature of sports, its tough for fairweather fans to stick by a team in bad times.

I mean, even on FB, all these people who NEVER mention a damn thing regarding baseball all of a sudden becomes these die-hard fans when a BoSox-Yanks series rolls around and we are winning....sort of sucks, especially when same said fans start talking sh*t like they have any clue what is/has been going on for the last 4 1/2 monthes (ROLO, not directing this at you at all, just ranting on the topic of fairweather fans).  I suffered through the late 80's and early 90's teams, which were effing terrible, with the exception of Don Mattingly and a few other players, and I rooted for them as hard then as I do now, weather my team goes 70-92, or goes 114-48, I am behind them through and through.

All I need to say to you kids right now is 4 - 8. I know it will change but, right now your 4 - 8 against boston!

Honestly after the two games I'd be more concerned about Burnett blowing up than anything else. Penny has been replaced in the rotation by Wakefield so that cleans up that little issue.

Burnett got roughed up for the first time in like 2 monthes, it happens, you have to be concerned with Becketts ineffectiveness for the second straight game.  Burnett is a fiery guy, he can be mad that he threw poorly, it's refreshing that he can be honest when he sucks

Beckett will be fine. I don't this weekend was a postive for either team to be honest. They both didn't paly well at all.

I do tip my hat, The Pats offense looked pretty solid as well, Tom Brady (who is supposed to be god's gift to FB) for which I have no respect for looked shaky once again.  

It was a good game But dont for one second act like this was some kinda blowout and that the Patriots looked dominating!! From the first play the Pats got a break cuz of that special teams fumble! Then closing the first half one of the Ravens players was down for like 10 minutes and had to get carted off half way through their offensive drive (which unfortunately fizzle after that).

Im not gonna say things wouldve gone differently if these events had not occured but dont get all balls actin like the Ravens arent still a damn good team!

I doubt that would have been a game winning pass. He wasn't going to score on that play. I really think the Ravens have a good record based on playing some bad teams. If Brady doens't fumble that ball(Once in a lifetime) that game is a 13 point win. Only sore losers complain about officials. The rule says "if you hit a QB in the head or the legs it's a 15 yard penalty." I don't like the rule either but, it goes both ways. Hopefully we do meet in the playoffs that was a good game.

I agree that the rule sucks but, it also sucks to lose your teams star palyer from a cheap hit to his legs.

^Cheap hits suck just as much as BS calls. I think there should certain extremities of the rule for instance when a player is sliding on the ground or falls and just happens to graze the quarterbacks leg shouldnt be called. It's kinda like the rule on kickers and punters they just happen to call the BS ones more for the quarterbacks because they're the faces of the league.

Brady did say this morning that the "rules are in place for everyone's benefit" and cited regulations on chop blocking and open-field hits in the secondary, but he did concede that on the Suggs' penalty in the second quarter, "Was it a bad hit? No way. He barely touched me. But they were calling it tight. That crew usually calls it tight."


That's what sucks about football now and that goes for every quarterback in the league and it didnt determine the outcome of this particular game but a call like that has and will at some point across the league.

In short Ocho Cinqo (who I depise) jump up to catch a pass, and on the way down Mr. Lewis decided to leave his feet to hit him on the way down. His head hit directly on Ocho's face mask sending his helmet flying in the air. He was flagged for obvious reasons but, more should be done it was an aweful hit. Frank Gore is having an impact.

PS: How did Brady look yesterday?

All 3 games came down to the very last play.  Had those three plays of gone differently, we would be undefeated right now.  My main concern is our defense.  They look absolutely HORRIBLE.  Especially our CBs.  I never EVER thought I'd say this, but I'm missing Rolle and McCallister right now.... The only person playing on the level the should be is good old reliable Ray. If our defense was even HALF as good as it was last year, I have no doubt we would be undefeated with the way our offense is putting up points.  Hopefully they get their shit together this week during the bye.  If not, it's going to be a veryyyy long season.

PS. Brady still blows!  He did a good job picking on one of the worst pass defenses in the league.  Big deal.

I was impressed and amused at both games. I was amused at the Pats game because although I expected Brady to dice up the Titans nobody expected to the dude to toss 5 in one quarter! LOL! So I was amused due to that but like Ike said the Titans do have the worst pass defense in the league.

I was impressed that the Ravens were able to come back like they did as well as Flacco doin it against one of the best defenses in the league.


I was even more impressed though that Drew Brees was able to totally decimate the BEST defense in the league!

*Scratch that, didnt realize Minnesota's D is 18th overall and 24th against the pass. However it was still a nice comeback though.

From personal expirence I can tell you that Galloway can't catch a ball to save his life. The Ravens would be foolish to give anything up for him because if the Pat's can't get anything for him they will cut him anyway.

Galloway was a beast for TB.  You guys just have too much talent at the WR position to put him to good use.

I have Greg Olse to replace daniels, and I figured that Ocho and Bouldin are about equal. The trade gives me 3 RB's to play Gore, Johnson, Slaton. With E. Mannin or Brady at QB. I think that it strengthens my team quite a bit what do you guys think?

I don't think I would have made that trade.  Not with the numbers Schaub has been putting up.  Slaton has been on and off all year, mostly off though.  Boldin for Johnson was pretty equal though.

My thought is that Slaton will pick it up and although Daniels is better than Olsen i'm not losing that much. My other options at RB are all "back up's". Moreano, Bradshaw so if the starters stay healthy they are useless. Slaton is at least a starting back.

At the rate things are going, I don't think Bradshaw will be the backup for long :)

For some reason this baseball season hasn't been as exciting as the past few yrs. I'm a diehard baseball fan but stopped watching after the reg season ended...

Yeah I usually only tune in during the playoffs and world series but I've watched maybe part of one game this whole post season.

Hell I've only watched a few NFL games this yr too, maybe a few quarters worth. But, I've caught all the Gators games! lol That's the only thing I keep up with anymore is college football.

Oh I've watched almost every football game, even when I'm at work. LOL! Just because I'm obsessed and need to be up to par every minute on my fantasy stats.

They did bump there salary 20%, and it's not the Sox that strggule to compete. The ownership of the Red Sox is able to put a good team on the field but, there are other that cannot compete. You can't tell me that you think it is right to have a $201,449,189 payroll in this economy. The Sox are guilty of it also but, they put a limit on what they would pay someone, and the Yankees do not. Honestly it's ruining the game.

Cry me a river, you are aware that you had precisely THREE homegrown Players on your 2004 WS Championship team right?  Besides Varitek, Bill Mueller and Trot Nixon, I'm pretty sure you had ZERO other homegrown talent.  You traded for  or signed in FA for EVERY SINGLE OTHER PLAYER that was on that team, so don't gimme that BS about buying a championship, cuase that championship was as bought as any in sports.  let see: Derek Lowe, Pedro Martinez, Curt Schilling, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Orlando Cabrera, Johnny Damon, Bronson Arroyo, and pretty much every relief pitcher.

The difference is that the revenue sharing program was designed to help smaller market teams, most of those owners have the $$ to spend on FA quite easily, they just choose not to or instead to pocket the profit of re-investing into their organization.

No compairison in the payrolls of the two teams. The 2004 Red Sox payroll was 127,298,500 the 2009 Yankees pay roll is 201,499,189. Be realistic they overspend you cannot argue other wise.

To be fair in all this it’s obvious I have disdain for the Yankees as a Red Sox fan but, they are just the catalyst for this issue. They are the team that started it all, and continue to take salaries to far. My team is guilty of following the curve in order to compete that is for sure but, ultimately it’s the commissioner that needs to take control. The payroll issues much like the steroid issues are the fault of the commissioner’s office. Revenue sharing is a joke, and baseball really needs a salary cap.  The NFL, and NHL have it right, and the MLB as a whole needs to swallow its pride and do something about this issue. Of course your going to win when you overpay all of the good free agents. I would really like to see the GM’s of any of these large market teams (Red Sox included) compete if they were all on level starting ground.

Rolo and any other Yankees fans, Mike is miserable cuase the sox lost this year and the Yankees won the World Series, but as a baseball fan hes as knowledgable as anyone i've met.  Just for the record Mike, the Phillies 98 million payroll beat the Rays 44 million payroll in 2008 , at 223% of the Rays salaries.  By comparions the Yankees 201 million beat the Phillies 113 million payroll, at 178% the Phillies Salary, so who, in fact, bought their World Series more.  Also what was the Colorado Rockies payroll in 2007?  oh about $44 million...so you guys had a payroll gap of $111 million dollars and 353% of the Rockies salary.  Ours this year was an 88 million gap.

I don't gripe about it as a Sox fan but, as a fan of the game in general. There are 20 - 25 teams that don't have a chance from day one, and to me that makes things less enjoyable. Also, I don't think your stat on sox 2007 payroll is correct I have it as $143,026,214. I said congratulations, and your team played well but, you have to admit that you have an advantage going into every season for the last 11 years.

yeah I mean don't that top 7-8 teams year in and year out, regardless of the 2004 Sox Payroll, it was still considerable...and the Yanekes dropped almost 20 million in spedning from last year, which was $218 million.  I agree it sorta takes some of the guessing out of it.  but EVERY year a smaller market team makes a run, and a lot of times makes it to the World Series (Rockies 2007, Rays 2008)  So its not impossible to win with a small payroll, and especiallyw hen my team is knocked out, I really pull for that underdog team.  This year the two teams that should have made it, did, and the better team won.

Now we are speaking the same. The issue is that these teams have no chance to maintain a good team because as soon as the Yanks, Sox, Mets, Phillies, etc. see that they have talent they are going to swoop in and offer half of the current teams payroll to aquire the player.

We bet a T shirt on the margin of victory(or defeat) between when the Colts play the Pats and the Ravens. In other words to assuming both the Pats and Ravens beat the colts the greater margin of victory wins. If they both lose who ever lost by less points wins.  This is fair there is no spread taken into account, and it will show us who is confident in the team they route for and who is not.

There is only one flaw in that bet.  Shirt sales are over with on the 19th and the Ravens don't play the Colts until the 22nd...

Peyton, 13.5-2.5. I think the biggest thing besides their arms, will to win and what not is what Peyton does at the line and the fact that he basically runs the offense. Peyton calls the plays going to the line and then of course at the line. The OC has admitted continously that he doesnt call plays he just throws out ideas to Peyton. In that manner I dont think Brady can hold a candle to Peyton. Both have benfitted from running games at time and both have benfitted from a great wide receiving core. However the little bit of help that Brady has had that Peyton hasn't is a top notch defense.

Here is where all arguments fail... Payton Manning cannot compare in the playoffs! Brady wins when it matters most, and the Colts have always had a good defense so in my mind that argument holds no weight. When Manning has a 86% winning percentage in the post season, 3 superbowls, and 2 superbowl MVP's then we can have this discussion. He might be the best regular season QB but, at the end of the day that means nothing.

I'm kinda pissed.  I really wanted the Vikings to win yesterday so I could see the tears streaming down Favre's face when Manning owned his ass in the Superbowl.  His tears last night will just have to do I guess.  Just not the same level of satisfaction.

This Thursday the fam and I will be at a Universtiy of Florida meet and greet before the Senior Bowl. So we'll be able to meet/greet/pics/autographs the Gator players that will be playing in the Senior Bowl. I'm so stoked to be able to meet most of the guys and just shoot the breeze with them. It's a low key type of event. UF Alumni only, so it should be a blast. Stay tuned for pics!!

LOL it's a great game if you take the time to learn the rules of it.

I like hockey sometimes. Especially now that the Capitals are actually good at it. LOL! I learned all the rules from my days of playing the NHL series on Sega and what not. That was during the days of the Avalance and Blackhawks being awesome. Of course I rolled with the Avalanche on the game when they had Joe Sakic, Jeremy Forsberg and Patrick Roy. Oh, the black guy name droppin hockey players! LOL

I'm suiting up for March Madness though!


*Forgot to mention I actually played street hockey for a couple years. They had a actual rink by my house that was built to spec of a ice hockey rink.

But, the Black guy doesn't realize that it was Peter Forsberg.... Oops lol.... Hockey is much much more enjoyable if you know the rules. Washington is a fun team to watch but, I think the Blackhawks are the team to beat this year.

HAHA just checked in on this...Jeremy Forsberg, that's classic.  I used to love NHL on genesis, it always came down to CO or CHI back in the day, very true.  Sakic was the man, he was like lightning on skates!

Its all good. I've met Roenick a few times he's an  asshole.

I was a bouncer at a Local hot-spot bar chain, and alot of philly athletes occasionally make their way in.  I was around a couple times when he was there, and he was a jerk, very pompus

I've met a lot of NHL players, and for the most part they have been very down to earth but, that guy is another story.

Bolden + Stallworth + Mason (hopefully!) + Rice + Flacco + awesome O line = one of the top offenses in the league.  

I see the best Ravens offense in history forming for this year and I'll be very surprised if we don't make it deep into the playoffs.  I CAN'T WAIT FOR FOOTBALL SEASON!!!

I don't think they resign Mason, The Bolden signing pretty much washed that away IMO. Bolden is awesome though. I think the Bears have improved a ton, and the Jet's now have two shut down CB's. This year should be fun to watch.

They haven't resigned him yet but I'm still hopeful that they will.  I heard no other teams have shown any interest yet so I guess that's a good sign.

The reports here are that the Patriots have talked to his agent a few times.

I can't see Mason wanting to be the 3rd string receiver though.  

He wants at least a 2 year deal as well.  Even though he's a 36 year old receiver, I'd hate to lose him, but I wouldn't cry over it.

I like Mason alot. Bolden is an awesome player but you have to consider that he has never faced very much double coverage. He was always lined up with Larry Fitz.
