Honda engine design
«

My landlord is looking to sell his 2000 Benz C230. For fun I looked up the specs of the car. Its a 2.3L I4 supercharged engine which produces a meager 185HP and 200ft/lb of torque. Now our 2.4L I4 engines are NA and produce 165HP.....isn't 185HP sort of lame for a 2.3L supercharged engine?
Are Honda engines really just better designed than most?

It's probably because the Benz is running low boost. Most stock FI cars run low boost from the factory like my mom's Volvo XC70, it just doesn't seem to have any power and its just slugish in my opinion

200 ft/lb torque is a good bit more than what we have though. One of my friends drives a 05 Audi A4 2.0T and drove it one time and it was slow compared to my car I thought. I dont know what it is, but our cars seem to be faster than other 4 cylinders and even some bigger engines.

I guess he has money to burn. I'd rather waste my money on parts that actually make my car faster, hookers, and drugs. Fucking amateurs. :

i agree, my old roomate has a audi a4 quatro 1.8l turbo with a apr stage 1 reflash and i can beat him with ease. the honda motor is much stronger. vtech is great even if ours only have vtech on the intake cam.

Well its not just the fact that Honda engines are designed better I think it just comes with technological progression. I mean a 2000 Accord V6 with a 3.0 made 200hp. Thats pretty lame compared to now a days. I mean Honda squeezed another 40+ hp out of the j30 in just 3 years time! PROGRESS! But I will say a supercharged 2.3 making under 200hp is pretty pitiful. Then again factory cars are detuned for reliability, especially many boosted factory cars. Also IDK if OEMs are just nice and want Aftermarket companies to have room to play.

Its all about the basic design, Honda has always built hi-reving , high HP per liter engines, Mr. Honda's goal has always been to achieve 100HP per Liter, but this comes at a cost to tourqe.

They fell a little short with our cars then...only about 70 Hp/L in our I4's

That is true but at least its 160hp/160tq not many 2.4 can say that.

So far the only stock engine to hit 100HP per litre NA is the F20C in the AP1 S2K, although I am getting real close with the J36, Stheman got 303 WHP allowing 15% drive train loss that is about 348CHP

Actually Paul, the B18C in the ITR did as well.

Although the ITR enigne was put in stock vehicles, Honda did not consider it a standard production engine since it had hand work done to it after production on the line, the B18C5 was actually hand assembled and had human port work done, I see what you are saying, but is a grey area with Honda corporate.....

Grey areas are where I live! Aren't the K20 in the RSX S and Accord Euro R a 100hp/L engine(s) as well?

Yup, but the F20C (which is a K series block and head design and is extreamly simular to the K20 type R engine) in the AP1 is considered the first.

Ummm. You mean VTEC, right? I'm not sure if you knew, but
vtech
is a phone company, and I know my cams don't have phones.
