I guess my post never made it up here from yesterday....ghey

That is what mine looks like (not my photobucket account)

Here's the deal with shift knobs and the accord shifter...

First off...it's an accord shifter..which means the shift knob sits high as hell from the factory.  I dealt with it for a few years and figured it was time to shorten it because i got really aggrivated with how high the shift knob sat.  The stock shifter has a thin bore until about half way down the lever, so I basically cut the threaded portion off with a die grinder equipped with a whiz wheel, and then rethreaded from there with my snap-on rethreading kit (which has saved my ass at least 10,000 times).  That's the easy way of doing things, but it may become problematic since the newly cut threads are not hardened or tempered which may cause them to get screwed up easily.

After having the modified stock shifter box for awhile decided to buy the mugen sport shift kit and replace the whole box.  $230 later, I am greeted by the new unit which touts that the shift height is reduced by an inch...i'm guessing they should have offered a 2" reduction as an option....

My unique situation is such:  When you put a skunk2 shift knob on the mugen sport shift assembly it sits high and i'm dissatisfied.  The greddy shift knob solves that problem because the threads start half way into the shift knob and they stop at the top of the shift knob.  This gives the illusion of a height reduction but it's just the way the shift knob is designed.  The skunk2 shift knob has the threads starting at the bottom and they go about half way through the body of the knob.  There's quite a bit of headspace above where the threads stop, so that's why the knob sits higher.

The 2008 S2000 CR accessory knob pictured below:

As you can see..this shift knob takes care of many of my wants and needs.  It's spherical (I've always wanted a spherical shift knob), it has a 6 speed cross (double whammy because good 6MT knobs are hard to find [especially spherical ones]), and it's honda OEM (fulfills my obsessive compulsive OE fetish, it's spherical, and has a 6 speed cross).

The shift knob arrives at my dealership tomorrow (tuesday) and if I try to install it that day, it will look like this:

Sorry...but that doesn't look very S2000 - ish....So i'm going to cut the shifter to lower the height.

My buddy Chris (MTSixspeed) did it with his OEM shifter and it's really simple, yet hard for the average joe to accomplish.

To reduce the height of your shift knob, you need to remove the shifter box, determine how low you wish the knob to sit, and then cut the threaded portion of the shift lever off.  Install the shift knob on the threaded portion and mock up how low you want the knob to sit.  Using the same whiz wheel you cut the threaded portion off with, remove a section of shifter to shorten the lever.  Have a buddy weld the threaded portion to the shortened shift lever.  Reinstall the shifter box and enjoy the lower shift lever height.

Did you mean S2000 shift knob when you said Skunk2?  My Skunk2 sits a lot lower than my OEM shift knob did and my shift lever is unmodified.

no I did indeed mean skunk2.  I'm a shift knob whore...I may buy a skunk2 6MT shift knob in a year or so...depending on how tired I get with the S2000 shift knob.  I wish my skunk2 sat lower than my stock knob, Tim...I have no idea of how yours sat lower....Mine sat high as hell...

Mine sat pretty high at first, but then I kept turning it and it went all the way down like your Greddy knob.

I had the short shift kit and the Monster Knob. Both were excellent upgrades and the Monster Knob was shorter than the OEM knob making the throw feel even shorter. It felt just perfect in my hand and did not get hot or cold with the weather. Here's a link to the DIY for the knob...................

Probably not.  Why not just get a SSK for the Accord instead?

I know I'm reviving an old thread but I have this combo currently installed along with a modified shifter. Now that I have the full gamut, my throws are super short but firm. The monster shift knob is spherical and I like the fact it doesn't have the shift gates. It doesn't get hot in the direct summer sunlight and I'm sure it won't be frezing cold this coming winter. I'd recommend this combo to anyone.

I'd say that it feels a bit "notchy" with the SSK.  I've had mine on for like 5 years though and have had a shortened shifter for the last year.

You need the tool that came with the Comptech SSK.  It makes things easier.

the neuspeed online directions say use a 13mm wrench and gently pry it off. no way in hell i see gentle in that bushings future. also think i broke the "not an ashtray" thing doesnt shut now.

edit: tim i looked a pic of what that part is. yeah i see how that helps.
