i've been lobster diving off the coast of gloucester and cape ann in the spring/fall before. the real deal is when you start hitting the thermoclines at 20/40 feet down. you're lucky if its 40 degrees! its so cold that your head starts pounding

I've cliff jumped a few times in NH into some freezing cold water from a waterfall. It instantly tightens up your muscles and sucks the air right outta you.
