I think this is where this belongs, but if not I apologize and feel free to move it. I've been wanting a radar detector here lately and not many of my friends have them. So, I thought who better to ask than car enthusiast. One of my friends has Escort SRX with jammers on his car, he is my only friend who has one. I don't want to spend $1,100 on a setup because I don't drive that fast, maybe 5-10 over. I have had my eye on the Valentine One. I just wanted to see if you guys had them and what you had, except for Virginia people  Cheesy. Thanks!

Beltronics V940 here. Granted, its not a V1 but it has saved my ass multiple times. It paid for itself with the first trap I missed on trip from Miami to NY two years ago when I bought it.

Bill, read through this site to get a good understanding of radar detectors and comparisons. For the record, Cobras are the worst there is. Sorry C.

Hmm, after reading through that site it looks like the Escort 8500 X50 would be a good buy.  I think if I am going to get one, I'm going to get a good one just because if I doubt it's abilities, I might as well not get one. It sounds like the V1 gives a lot of false alerts, which I don't know how big of a problem that will be for me. My 70 mile drive home consist of cotton fields, no automatic doors there. Still though, if I could save money and get equivalent performance that's a no-brainer.

I have a check sitting here, in my dorm room, right now. Come get it when ever. Be warned though, these checks are only good for 30 days  Wink

I'm going to order the Escort 8500 X50 in December, I have spent a little too much money this month. I can't decide if I want to spend the $40 extra to get the blue light. I don't really see any advantage to it over the red, other than I think it looks better. $299.99 for red and $339.99 for blue.

There's really no need for it. The blue is a bit easier on the eyes but the red doesn't impede night vision as much.

I've got a Cobra XRS-9990 and I couldn't be more satisified with it. It picks up radar guns from the edge of the gun's range and I get consistently accurate distance alerts. Another option that I wouldn't consider is the Valentine One system they advertise all over car magazines. The system itself IS able to show in which direction the radar gun is relative to your location, but it doesn't matter, because you will slow down regardless, so in the interest of money it is not worth the 400$+
