FYI-

All these cars had full body decals covering the paint.  Its to protect them from the bugs, rocks, and tar on the freeway. Everything peels off.

oh man, ya never heard of the Gumball races before? They use to be almost exclusively in Europe, but a year or two back one of the cars hit a elderly couples car (residents, not participating in the race) killing them both...they pretty much canceled the gumball that year mid-race. Alot of the European countries they ran through banned them, so now they are here in the US.

Back when it was in Europe, I believe entry fee was around $70-80K (they provided 5 star hotels and parties every night with every meal catered or at 5 start places, they even had their own security detail for all the cars and drivers), but as of late, they have somewhat toned it down and I believe the runs that are here in the US are only around $20-30K

looks like underestimated the prices:    http://www.gumball3000.com/rally/faq/#question5

Quote
How much does it cost to participate?
The entry fee varies each year depending on the route, for example in 2008 the entry fee was $120,000 per car, with the route that started in San Francisco and finished in Beijing, including flying all 120 cars around the world. However, in 2009, the entry fee is reduced to $44,000 per car for two people, as the route is contained within the United States.

It was fun to see these cars, but I'm not sure what to think of this event as a whole.  Basically its just a bunch of rich people road racing...one guy this morning almost wrecked his ride.

I caught this on video...that orange lambo was LOUD...it sets the security alarm off on the suv across the street.  But watch the guy in the white Porsche at around 1:25....that could have ended poorly...

rich people who can't drive lol

...the crashes are pretty common at gumball....

i agree with you, it's pretty cool to see all the cars, but the whole idea of doing this on public roads gets 2 thumbs down from me

yea ive been following this for a few years - its basically ridiculously rich people flaunting their money.  dont get me wrong, its awesome, but its out of reach for just about everyone else... and they make it that way on purpose.

during the end they give out prizes for the people with the most speeding tickets and the highest ticket.  at least a handful of people go to jail and get their cars impounded every year for getting pinched doing about 150 in a 65.  one guy i heard a few years ago got caught doing something like 188 in a lambo.  everybody cheered.  last year (i think) one group had their RR phantom break down (or crash, i dont remember) but they still wanted to finish the race so they did the most logical thing and bought a brand new drophead phantom that day and finished the race.
