This will be a guide on which tire is best suited for your car. Of course you would want to get as close as possible to your stock OD to prevent any mass speedometer fluxuation.


195/65 R15 = 25.0 (DX/VP Models)
205/65 R15 = 25.5 (LX Models)
205/60 R16 = 25.7 (EX Models)
215/50 R17 = 25.5 (V6 6-speed & TSX)
235/45 R17 = 25.4 (TL)
245/45 R17 = 25.7 (TL A-Spec Option)

Just to clarify on this, trying to figure out the equation for outer diameter.

x * y * 2 / 2540 + z

x = tread width
y = aspect ratio
z = wheel width

Z is actually wheel height. Wheel width being 17" wide is pretty drastic, but your equation is correct. The 25.4 in example is the overall tire/rim diameter.

Hahahah 17" wide tire.  Nice!!

Anyway, good stuff man.  This is a good reference for people upgrading their wheels and tires.

I am in the process of changing my setup for a closer ratio to stock. This involves going wider than normal so I hope the increased rotational mass does not affect acceleration performance.

Your 265/35 R18 should be alright JT. The rolling diameter on those is 25.3. You are only off by 0.2. So, it shouldn't affect your accleration performance whatsoever. You will get way better traction because of the wider tires though.

Yeah yeah, 2yr bump, who cares. I just got a set wheels with a somewhat staggered setup. The fronts are 235/45-17 and based on the tire calculator above these will have a difference -0.5% from stock. I'm slightly concern, however, that the rears are 255/40-17 with a difference of -1.5%. What would be the downside of this?

The rear tire size will not affect anything.  The front size should be negligible because it's only 0.1" difference between what you have and what was stock on your car.

Based on the calculator, right now, I am slightly slower with my 225/40-18.
The rear tire size will not affect anything.  The front size should be negligible because it's only 0.1" difference between what you have and what was stock on your car.
That's what I figure, I just wasn't sure about the two different circumferences causing some wear issues.

I am happy that the 235/45-17 up front will get me back closer to stock.
