Nice.  It's been a few years since I've gotten to drive a Porsche.  My favorite one that I've actually driven is a 911 Carrera 4 S.  I've been drooling over the Ruf RGT and RT12 though.

About three months ago I realized that I had spent so much time working and I mean working hard in my career, that I literally sat to ask myself, what is the reward for the hard work? I love what I do. I love the company I work for. So with putting in so many hours and working as hard as I do, I felt it time to do something for myself. I am currently (well not anymore) debt free. No house payment, no credit cards, no school loans, no car payments (again, not anymore). I don't have/want kids. Married to someone who feels the same. Live in a nice house, in a nice area and I own some nice things. I am not a flashy person. I don't wear jewelry or buy designer clothes, I am really quite a simple computer geek who loves cars.

On an average month, I would spend just a ridiculous amount of money on trival things. Little gadgets for the car, technology gadgets, eating out, diecast cars, video games, alot of bullshit that would be nice to own, but ultimately, frivolous spending. I have some nice things to show for it, but many of which are unnecessary. Well not that a Porsche is a necessity.

So over the last three months, I started doing research on what I would love to own. Never thinking Porsche btw. I was looking at BMW and Mercedes, Corvette's, Lexus, etc. Trying to determine what might be something I would love to own and something that I would enjoy for a long time. Growing up as a kid, I always thought I would own a Porsche, but even still this never entered into my head that I would be able to.

One day, while browsing through cars.com, I was like, hmm, I wonder what Porsche are going for used. Did a quick search and found many in the $75-100K mark, but surprisingly, some that were in the $43-60k mark as well. I had a little money saved up and so I decided that maybe I could actually afford to get my dream car. The more I looked, the more I realized that I could afford to get a nice 911 Carrera S for a monthly payment I could afford and probably pay off in about three years.

Now I was trying to find the right car and after three months of looking, this car popped up on the list of cars for sale on one of the sites I visited regularly. I spoke with the dealership selling it, found about it's history. The car has about $12k worth of aftermarket add-ons put into the car, including intake, suspension, exhaust, techart kit and wing. All of which were done by a Porsche dealership, with full warranty and paperwork. The DME scan and pre-purchase inspection came back perfect and so it was time to do something for myself.

The story behind what took so long with the dealership, really came down to price. They were not working with me on the car and so I decided to look at a different Porsche Cayman S they were selling, but ultimately when they saw that I had given up on getting the 911, they decided to have a counter offer and we came to a meeting of the mind on price. The rest as they say is history. I don't want to drudge up the whole ordeal. At the end of the day, the dealership is respected and their prices are fair and they took good care of me.

Wow Scott that's very impressive!  Good for you, I'm glad you got something you wanted!  I know why he REALLY bought it...see Scott has mental problems...he ran out of bolts on the accord to cover with shiny metal caps...so he bought another car which lacks bolt caps...I haven't seen the car yet and I guarantee that when I do...a million little bolt caps will be staring me in the face.

I'm still quite convinced that if Scott got into a front end collision with his car...it would be like Sonic The Hedgehog taking a hit, only it will be an explosion of bolt caps instead of pretty gold rings...complete with that sickening "I just lost 250 f*cking rings!" sound.

I saw Scott's new car today and I'll give you my impressions:

So I was sitting around today feeling somewhat out of it due to the semi-rough night I had last night.  I was studying for the Analytical Chemistry test I have on Monday morning and I get a phone call from Scott.  He asks if I'm home and if I will be in the area because he was running errands and wanted to show me the new toy.  I said that I was home and that I would be outside shortly.

I stepped outside of my apartment and admired the fauna at the pool...it always has to be gorgeous on a day that I need to stay inside and study...I see Scott come down the hill next to my building and he parks in an open space.

In usual Scott fashion, the car is immaculate in ways only describable by the technicians that see the vehicles run off the assembly line.  No doubt the car has been garage kept since 2006, but even if it weren't, it would still look the way it did today because Scott is a detailing fanatic.  I knew he had spent all morning detailing it even before he told me so..

I won't go into detail about how the car looked because honestly if you can imagine what one of these hotcakes looks like in the showroom, that's basically the condition this car was in.

I saw the engine bay and to my disappointment and utter amazement, there were no bolt caps to be seen...I figured he had just spent the morning detailing and hasn't gotten around to installing those yet.  He was right....that little engine bay doesn't afford much space for human hands to work in...

The interior was beautiful and I noticed some spare change in the driver's rear footwell.  I laughed and accused Scott of horseplay, saying that he'd had so much fun on the way over that his change exited his pockets (as it happens with me on occasion).  He preceded to ruin the moment and tell me about how it's a tradition or good luck to throw change into a new car....way to go, Scott...

He asked if I'd like to go for a ride, and naturally I agreed.  He was like a kid in a candy store talking about how it had been only the 2nd time he had driven the car since picking it up on Thursday.  He showed me the electronic suspension dampening system, which was cool, and he demonstrated why people who drive those cars get pulled over...at 75mph the car felt like it was doing 50... I was like....so are we out of 2nd gear yet?

After a short drive and a cervical realignment, Scott dropped me off at home a bit more awake than when he had arrived.

I am very happy for Scott since he's a genuine person and deserves this treat.  One day I hope to be in his shoes because....I want my supercharged '98 NSX...
