A rant/ PSA about the term "stanced"
«

From Merriam-Webster's dictionary:
Stance
noun
- a way of standing or being placed : posture
Now that I have your attention, let me start off by saying that everyone that "hates stanced cars" must hate every single car that came out since the Ford Model T. Everything has a "stance" or posture. A buddy of mine said it best:
Quote
Every time I hear someone say they want to "stance" something, they have a "stanced car", or that they love "stance", it's obvious they have no idea what they're talking about.
Everything has stance. Stance is the overall ride height, rake, and proportional "setting" of any vehicle.
I went on to elaborate by saying that literally every vehicle out there has some sort of "stance". Lifted trucks, drift pigs, race prepped vehicles, stock vehicles, etc. Frankly, I'm absolutely tired of hearing or seeing someone's hatred towards "stanced" cars. Last I checked, that word doesn't exist nor is it a verb.
Here are some examples of vehicular stance:
FWD drag race stance
RWD drag race stance
Rice stance
Stock supercar stance
Aggressive wheel and tire fitment stance
Drift stance
Purpose built air bag stance (this gets driven HARD on the track with over 550hp on tap)
Hope that clears things up and you stop using a noun as a verb.

Me too.. I was never 100% sure what it meant, for that reason I didn't talk about it. Thanks for laying it out

Lmfao.
Stance, in the car scene, is when you have enough rear camber so that the sidewall of the tire sits as flush as possible with the fender/quarter panel. The car is sitting in a specific way, not just any normal way of standing.
I wish there was another word to name it. I understand what you mean but it is what it is

While every car technically has a
stance
,
stanced
seems to by synonymous with
hellaflush
even if it's a less extreme example. I believe this is a more accurate definition of a
stanced
car when taken in the correct context.
Quote from: Urban Dictionary
(verb) - to adjust a car's camber, ride height, and spacing, so that the sidewall of the tire sits as flush as possible with the fender/quarter panel. A common trend and style impersonated on drift and show cars alike, originating from the older Japanese domestic market.
Maybe a more extreme definition leaning more towards herrafrush.
Quote from: Urban Dictionary
To destroy a cars handling abilities by having it lowered an excessive amount. Typically, the tires are tucked way inside the vehicles fenders. But in order to have a hellaflush stance and run the required excessively wide wheels with tires that are stretched just to fit onto the wheels, the car has to have an excessive amount of negative camber. If you stand behind one of these cars don't be surprised to see the rear tires looking like "/ \". The rear tires are probably bald on the inside and the outside still looks brand new, and there's probably only an inch of contact patch with the ground. A hellaflush stance car can't even pull into a driveway without bottoming out and ripping the bumper off or cracking the vehicles oil pan. Some stanced cars are so extreme that you can't even turn the vehicles steering wheel fully in either direction without the tires rubbing.

While the above definition is correct, it's yet another example of how the English language is butchered to ever living shit. The one style that originated in Japan that Jer posted in the car whores thread is an example of "demon camber" and that is just plain ridiculous. There was a video I saw a little while back of several examples of these demon cambered vehicles (generally the large bodied Japanese vehicles) leaving a meet and all of them were less than 1/4" off the ground. It was hilarious how they all rolled out of this lot at an extreme angle and scraped their undercarriage the entire way as well as on the crown of the street.

Yup. Demon camber is the extreme version of hellaflush. I'm not a fan of any of these styles. There's a fine line between proper fitment and looking like an asshole. When you can't drive your car on normal roads, you have become that asshole.

Unfortunately, stanced cars fall under that asshole category. Most people that say their car is stanced, is usually a degree less than hellaflush. Still non-functional, but not as bad with the hellaflush poke and stretch bullshit.
If anything, I prefer hellafunctional with proper fitment.

It's not being "ignorant" because I'm far from it.
That's what stanced is in the car scene, deal with it and move on, old man lol.
