Denny, has the basement been checked for mold?  If you have mushrooms growing on the carpet, heaven only knows that else is growing down there...

Is that something beyond the house inspection?  Or do they check for mold then? Our water softener was leaking when the power was off but it's fine now. The shrooms were growing in the spot where the leak was. No issues with the softener now, dehumidifier is in the works...

I would remove the carpet and look under it. Clean up anything that may be lurking.

Yeah, seriously mike, where are they piling up the snow?

Gravel isn't going to look good. I would put a small tree or shrubs or something so they know where they can stop with the pile up.

Maybe some of those red reflectors that are on 3'-0" poles, but just put them during the winter time.

That's a nice house, Mike.

Have you considered laying out some patterned stone or brick, of uniform shape or otherwise?  Maybe look on a "Curb Appeal" site?  Or build a berm?  That would be cool (and purely functional, although possibly not aesthetic)........ or a moat.

If there were sidewalk in your neighborhood there wouldn't be a problem. For gravel, you need to put up a divider in order to keep it neat, otherwise it'll just spread across your lawn.  I say plant grass and find ways to solve the snow pile issue.

Mike - I think the recommendation of planting small shrubs or something like that may be the best.  It also depends on your HOA or neighborhood rules (if applicable) for what you can and can't do.

Denny - that's insane.. you may want to bleach the area too, kill any mold/mildew that the mushrooms could have been growing from.  carpet MAY need to be replaced..

The issue is not a snow pile. The slat from the road killed the grass. I was all brown and dead its torn up because I raked it to plant. Seed hasn't germinate and its been weeks. Salt absorbs all the available water.

I don't see how the salt gets on your lawn with the curb there.   Judging from the picture, both your neighbor and the houses across the street don't look like they have any problems.   

I'd consider laying down some sod if the grass seed isn't working.  The bush/shrub idea is good but if the grass won't grow there, then I doubt they will either.

I'd water it everyday to try to get some of the salt to wash away. From an aesthetic standpoint I would only consider some type of natural green barrier and nothing like pavers or gravel.
