Verizon.  best company at fucking over customers.  anyone who's on verizon, has an unlimited data plan, and was planning on upgrading your phone after tomorrow, will have to pay full retail price for a phone in order to keep your unlimited data OR switch to one of their new tiered data plans (i.e. get raped with overage charges if you use a ton of data like me).  I'm pretty certain that this was never communicated to me until today.  fuck you verizon.

Lol have you not read this thread? It has been on here a long time. These new Verizon plans have been all over the news, T.V., internet for about over a month now. You expect Verizon to get in touch with every customer personally?

If you use a lot of data then buy a phone at full retail or go buy one on ebay, AT&T is doing tha too. What do you think, having millions of customers using a network running data is cheap and easy? No company has real unlimited data, they all throttle you.

I was pretty outraged when I first heard about it too.  Even though it meant nothing, when I specifically asked if I would be able to keep my unlimited data, I was told by a Verizon rep, "as long as you don't cancel your account, you will always have unlimited data".  Realistically, I knew it was too good to be true.  What's frustrating to me about Verizon, was that I remember when their service was very different and it just isn't as good as it used to be.  As a Verizon customer, it feels like Verizon is changing the rules to make more money while reducing service.  In the past 4-5 years, I have never had a good customer service interaction.  I had to fight every time just to get a phone that worked properly.

What do you guys do that uses that much data?

Probably watching tranny porn.

Tim, the rep then was at leas saying the truth then. No one knew or would know in the future, Verizon would do that. Its not like Verizon had this planned for 10years. It was created by popular demand by the customer. This only was brought up 2 months ago. You cant hold that rep for "lying" to you, its not like she knew. Thats like the gas station owner telling you "gas will always be $1.55 a gallon as long as I'm here" back in 96 and you call him a lier in 2012 because its 3.55 now...

It was once true, of course, youll always keep unlimited as long as you dont leave. Things change, not only in cellphone companies but with everything, especially over the years.

I'll take Jeff as an example. He has "Unlimited" yet he uses like 200-300mb a month. 2gb = 2048mb.... Is it really that important and worth it? Dont say "oh what if I go over", because its what you've avged for years.  laugh

For those who do use it, spend a little more on a phone on ebay compared to the discounted 2yr price and thats it.

Yeah I know.  The point is they shouldn't have made a promise they couldn't keep.  When I ask the question, "So, I will keep my unlimited data forever as long as I keep this number and account with Verizon?", and the response I get is, "As long as you don't cancel your account, you will always have unlimited data.", not "As long as they don't change the rules, you will have unlimited data.".  To me that means that I will ALWAYS have unlimited data regardless of future changes.  I specifically asked that question because I assumed Verizon would do something like this.  I will hold the rep that I spoke with at the store accountable for giving me incorrect information.  He should have been trained better and known to give a vague answer or at least toss in a loophole.  This guy was adamant that unlimited data would never go away for me since I was grandfathered in.  When somebody makes that big of a deal about it, you get kind of pissed when the rules get changed.  You didn't make the mistake, and it's not your fault.  You don't have to defend the mistakes of other employees or business practices of Verizon.

I just get pissed off because Verizon is known for pulling shit like this.  I remember back in the day when I would get a replacement phone at the store when my phone was broken.  That policy kept changing and getting worse and worse as time went on.  I've been turned away at Verizon stores and told that I would just have to live with a broken phone even though it was under warranty.  It's a shame that experience was one of a long string of shitty customer service experiences.

I hate Verizon stores and unfortunetly, Verizon reps are regular people. I get irritated at work when they give people false info or not the best option, I always correct them. If you want the correct answer Tim, keep calling Customer Service until you get someone with a brain or have me call you. Flippa!

And no... No one knew Family Data Packages would be demanded by the customer. Changes that are drastic like this are made for the mass that'll benefit from it, not the measly 5% of customers with unlimited data. That is why it was changed within these last 2 months. Id rather help a customer with 5 lines save $70 a month sharing their data rather than one guy on a single line with unlimited to keep it. Well, the single line can keep it, just buy a phone elsewhere and activate it.

That is why it was made.

In reality, I'm more pissed off about the lack of proper information and breakdown in communication with Verizon.  It's that kind of shit that makes them look disorganized and unprofessional.

Customer demand my ass! It's all to make money! The customer demand line is bullshit, and so is the notion that these charges are warranted by network usage. The problem with cell phone companies is that they are becoming like the gasoline industry. All of the major players are in bed together to keep the prices and plans close and they all make changes like this at the same time its not a coincidence. These companies outwardly lie about what it cost them to provide you a service. Take text messages for instance if I send or receive a text message, and I don’t have it as part of my plan it cost me $0.05 to $0.10 to send a message yet if I pay $5.00 a month I can send 2500 text messages (my monthly average against my unlimited text plan) that says that when I pay up front a profit is being made on a rate of $0.002 per message. The cost is 25 times greater for not paying up front give me a break. No one is in business to lose money but, these companies (all of them not just Verizon) grossly over charge for everything! At some point someone is going to step in and go against this trend. Maybe is Apple or Google creating there own service provider who knows but, it’s going to fall at some point because if they keep expanding the profit margin eventually its going to entice a company to undercut them all and still make a profit.

Loyalty is not 100% dead. I know I'm being over charged, and eventully T-mobile will probably change and fall into the same bull shit because all of the other companies are doing it but, I get alot of nice perks for being a customer for a long time. I had to get new phones for myself and the wife last week, and our contract was coming to an end so I had some leverage but, I was able to get the phones for less than new customer pricing plus have $10 a month per line taken off my bill because I have been a customer for 10 years. I'm not paying $127 a month for unlimtied talk, text, and "unlimted data"

Well Mike, reason I know it's by Customer Demand is because I was constantly asked when we're coming out with something like a family data package because $30 a line for data was to expensive. I personally have experienced it, it's not like I'm a blind employee just saying what I'm being told to say.

How is changing these to these new plans making more money? It's actually saving everyone either a lot, a little or they'll pay the same. You're frustrated and it's fine, if you need your unlimited, then you know what to do to keep it.

I didn't say anything specifically about Verizon did I? Not a Verizon customer I used to be but, due to the worst customer service in the world I have not been in the last ten years. It is making alot more money because in encourages people to buy hardware that they normally wouldn't. No Joe Smith is going to get his 12 year old an I phone becuase his monthly bill doesn't go up.... Do the math anything that any of these comapnies do is to make money. As long as they are allowed to do it they will just like oil companies. It's not a knock on your or where you work it is the industry in general everthing is overchared for. A customer signs a contract with a compnay and gets charged to terminate that contract but, its okay for the company to change the terms and conditions of the contract.... The cell phone industry is just fucked up...

Seems you're getting a bit heated, calm down Huh?

And no.... You sign a 2 year contract, which lasts for 2 years. If the carrier changes the contract, it does not breach yours. You can decide to upgrade again or not. If you do then you're consenting to the new terms. The contract you signed is never breached, it changes if you accept the new. You're misinformed if you think any contract was breached. Thats why you can buy it at full retail anywhere or get it on ebay for cheaper.

I dont see why a 12 year old should have any special phone, buy thrm a basic phone on enay for $30.

The point of a company is to make money isn't it? Whats the point to have one if you don't.

I am on the same page as you though, it could be a bit cheaper but its not easy to run a company. There are millions employed, plenty of services offered, network to upkeep by paying techs to keep it up or else you're going to call to complain and asked for '3 days of credit' because you didn't have service. Theres a lot of people to pay to keep the company running and upkeep services to continue growing.

I think the childish bickering over cell phone companies should stop.  This thread is about technical questions, not Verizon wireless this or AT&T that and tmobile blows....
