How To: Parking Brake Adjustment

I'm one of those OCD people that use my parking brake every time I park.  Needless to say, overtime the E-brake has loosened up a lot....and there was a lot more travel in the handle then there used to be.

Intelligently, Honda made an access panel to adjust the E-brake on our center consoles.  

Tools Needed
Flashlight
Philips screw driver

12mm socket with extension





Step 1: Locate and remove the Philips screw on both sides of the rear center console holding the access panel in place.




Step 2: Gently remove the cover with your fingers. There are two plastic clips at the top

Step 3: Get your flashlight and look inside the bottom of the console. You will see a nut between to cables. This is the nut that adjusts the tension of your E-brake.  Tighten this nut until your E-brake takes about 7 clicks (rear disc brakes) or 5 clicks (rear drum brakes) to be fully locked.  You can over-tighten this nut and it will cause your rear brakes to rub while you drive.  



Step 4: Turn on your ignition and make sure your brake light goes on and off normally on your dash.  

Step 5: Replace the console cover.

Can some one do me a favor? Can you check your rear brake pads and see how much clearance there is between your pad and rotors with the E-brake off?

they should be flush with the rotors
