Calling all car enthusiasts.  It's time to have a nice Rhode Island meet so that the MA/NH crowd and the CT/NY crowd don't have too far to drive.  Below are the details:

Date/Time:  Sunday, August 15th from 11:00am/12:00pm until whenever (if anyone wants to meet at a centralized spot beforehand and cruise to the park, just let me know).

I suggest we do this rain or shine, simply because setting a rain date (which could easily be the following Sunday, the 22nd) tends to equate to a meet never happening.  Unless there’s very severe weather, I can reserve a semi-enclosed gazebo for a small fee at either Colt State or Goddard State Park to still accommodate people in the event of rain.  DISCLAIMER  Also, I have a big pet peeve of people who flake out of things.  If you say you’re coming and are on the list, write it on your damn calendar and don’t back out for minor excuses.  Tell your friends.  Thanks.

You have a place to work on cars in RI?  I'm all for inviting the AcuraZine crew.  They're all good people.

Eh, I have my house but I'd prefer to have a meet at a public place/park.  Who says you can't do small installs (if need be) at a park?

Installing stuff at a park without any resources or utilities (electricity/air power), kinda sucks.  Maybe installs should be taken off the list.  Just my $0.02.

I voted for the late August one, I prefer Saturdays but, I can suck it up and head out to this. Not sure the direction the voting is going to go in but, I cannot make any of the July date. The 11th I will be out of town on vacation, and the 25th I will be returning from Carrie and Pauls

I have no idea when I'll be able to do this and I'm not even sure if I'll still be in New England by August.

I have a portable "power washer", which is basically a tank with a hose that connects to a 12v source.  As long as we have a water supply, we're good.  Justin, if you want to have a detail day one weekend, let me know and you can drop by my place.

yesss - that would rock.  that's one of the most frustrating things about living in the city is that there's really no good place to do some solid exterior detail.

So far, it looks like mid-August works for the most people.  I'd still like as much input as possible though, and we need to be solid on it as soon as possible so that this idea doesn't just die off before the summer ends.

Looks like August 15th is winning so far, but by a narrow margin.  A possible incentive for picking this day is that the So Fresh & So Clean car show is happening downtown, so maybe we could hit up the show, then hang for the rest of the day and do meet/food stuff.  Thoughts?  The link to the show is below:

I'd prefer to save my money and not go to the car show.  It sucked last year.  There were only 2 cars that were worth looking at in the show.  A '69 Yenko and a super clean SC'ed EK9 that looked like it only gets driven on and off trailers. 

^ Yeh, I figured you'd hate the show idea since you thought it sucked last year.  It's not like there's an overwhelming amount of votes for August 15th though, so the finalized date for the meet could go in a totally different direction.  I need more input.  Input!  (Short Circuit)

I'm in for beginning / Mid Aug but at the end I'm going to FL so i wont be able to make it.... If we setup a date i also can talk to a buddy of mine who does pro photo's to come and shoot the meet.

Yea 15th is fine by me. I told my buddy about it and he is down as long as we can get him a date so he can lock it down.

Also Tim, that car show that you hated so much last year that falls on the 15th has now been moved to one of their car wash parking lots in E. Providence as an outdoor show.  Quite a change in plans, but I have no clue as to why.

Prob something open like a state park or something? Just so we can take pics and not really be bothered all that much.... Maybe Colt State (Bristol) or somewhere down in the Newport area? I know the roads kinda suck in Newport but there are some great spots for pics and shit. Idk if we all are going to want to eat or something. We could meet up on RT 2 at TGI Fridays in Warwick or something grab some food and then cruse down RT 2 to NK or something....

What were you guys thinking? It doesn't matter to me that's just what pop-ed into my head.

Rob, I was thinkin the same thing.  A state park like Goddard State Park or Colt State Park would be a good idea.  Also, food before, during (grillin), or after is also a given.  I'd rather stay away from Newport though just because of traffic and the bridge.  And Jay, maybe that day we can drive by the SF&SC car show area and you can give 'em the finger for being too expensive to enter a car into.

In any event, July is winding down, so why don't we just set this meet up for August 15th and get things going?!

Sure man.  If I'm still around and can make it, I'll recommend a park that has grills and we can take care of lunch during the meet.

I updated the original thread to start an attendance/who/what you'll bring list.  Sorry to hear that Steve and Justin are out, but I know schedules are tight.  Let's just pick Colt State Park for now, and I can gather more info on a prime spot and how to reserve some grills.  If not, I'll use Goddard State Park as a backup.  Let's make this happen, rain or shine (unless it's like lightning or a hurricane), and please read my "flake disclaimer notice" in the original thread.

Tim, My dad lives in Bristol. There is a Del's truck that just sits by the bike path right as you drive in the front entrance. But you should be able to find some closer to you. I know like 3 places in Warwick where they are out almost every day. But you should have no problem getting some at the meet, and if they are not there you can stop by the store in Warren.  :)

The Del's trucks always seem to come through these parks as long as it's hot out.  At the Black Japan meet last August, the ice cream / lemonade truck banked bigtime with that crowd.


Food, drinks, supplies, all that good stuff.

I think I posted this thread in the NY regional thread, but it quickly disappeared down the list of useless banter threads that came after it.  I ended up PMing people instead.  Honda Day seems to be trumping this meet for most of them though.

Ok, so at this point it looks like we have 7 people (plus guests you bring) coming from this forum.  I'm in the process of checking the other forums I invited, which will give me a rough head count.  We might hit a number where I might just suggest that people bring their own food (plus maybe a little extra if you feel generous), and you cook/feed yourself.  I'll call the park today to check the grill situation.

I sort of like the bring your own food idea... I probably won't be around long enough to do the whole bbq thing. I have somewhere to be Sunday @ 430...

FWIW, I'm probably not going to be bringing my car.  I talked to a friend and will probably be riding with him in his RSX.  I'm having more clutch issues, so it's better to drive my car as little as possible.

Tim, at this point you've had so many issues with this damn thing that I say out with the Accord and go back to your VW days.  Jeez.   O0  And if you can't drive on Sunday and the kid with the RSX can't take you, either ask Steve to scoop you up on his way down, or I'm pickin your ass up bright and early.

As for more details regarding the park, I called today and reserved a spot with a small grill.  The site # is 84, and I believe it's in the same area as sites 81-83 on the map (below).  The park is pretty booked up for Sunday, and the site isn't huge.  So, if too may cars show up and we can't all fit, the guy said we can always use the open fields.  The only catch is that there are no grills in the open areas.  So, I just reserved a spot so that the grill was close by, but the fields can be used for "overflow" parking if needed.  With that said, we'll need some charcoal and lighter fluid.   :angel:

I have charcoal to bring.  Put me on the list for at least that.  I'll talk to Steve about it tomorrow night.  He's picking me up from Logan since I'm going out to Nashville tomorrow for a job interview.  As long as someone is willing to drive me, I'll be there. 

I'm going shopping on Fri so i will need to know if we r just doing a bring your own food deal or not. Kinda like that idea better but whatever works for everyone.

Tim - I'll put you down for charcoal, even though I imagine that all the grills will still have some in them.  We need lighter fluid too, unless someone can bring a small gas grill.

Rob - Just buy what you want for yourself and your guests.  If you have extra (i.e. a whole bag of buns and a whole box of burgers), sharing couldn't hurt.

Im picking up a dozen burgers and buns. I also have lighter fluid left over from my BBQ in June, so I'll walk with it just in case.

Dave, do we have a head count of who's coming from the other forums?

I have 3 small bags of the bag light charcoal.  No lighter fluid necessary.  I may actually drive my car for this since I didn't go to work and got some repairs done today.

Rich - Between all the other forums and some people I told on the side, we might have a dozen other rides or so.  But who knows.  I still need to update the other forums with the site # to go to at the park.

Tim - Keep me posted on your situation as Sunday nears.  You'll get to the park either way.

Yeah.  I've been talking to Steve about it too.  I think my buddy with the RSX may come also as long as he gets his car taken care of by then.

I sure as shit did.  I love making fun of 4 lug cars that only have 3 lugs on all 4 wheels.  I had a laugh at the chach with the convertible Mustang that revved his motor at us while we were all hanging out at the picnic tables and grilling.  I also loved that fucking Camaro with the Ferrari body kit.  Nothing beats having a laugh at the expense of others.

Hey fellas, looks like you guys had a good lil meetup today, sucks that Honda day and this were thesame day, ut I just couldn;t do another drive to RI and back after just being therea week ago.  Surprisingly Honda Day at Englishtown was a good crowd this year and had the best turnout I've ever seen...
