Title: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: NVA-AV6 on September 16, 2009, 10:26:38 AM I figured it was about time for me to make one of these since there really doesn't seem to be a option out there. I stratched it out to put the filter into the opening for the stock air box so it will still draw mostly cold air. Welded in and threaded a bung for the Intake Temp Sensor and am using silicon couplers and stinless T-Bolt clamps. It also has a 1/2" port in the bottom for the breater line. It is 3" diameter and currently I am using a K&N RE-0930 cone filter alothough pretty much any 3" cone could be used. What do you guys think?

Seems most intakes for the J30's are really expensive.
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Milan on September 16, 2009, 10:55:08 AM Looks good! How's it sound?
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: NVA-AV6 on September 16, 2009, 11:19:43 AM Sounds like a AEM V1
As far as cost I was looking at $100 for the pipe, hardware (Including coupling anf clamps), the filters are avalible many places including Advance Auto Parts, the K&N is $40 from them. And for $25 I would powder coat it. Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Mike on September 16, 2009, 11:25:48 AM Wish I hadn't just bought a V1!
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: timot_one on September 16, 2009, 11:56:19 AM Looks good Paul. I like the threaded AIT bung.
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Rich01 on September 16, 2009, 06:27:56 PM Nice job Paul, I was always curious about this because non of the major manufactures carry a short ram for the J series. I only saw the non brand ones on ebay.

Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Rich01 on September 16, 2009, 11:18:44 PM Yeah I know. What pipe did you use, is that a modded CAI 3" pipe?
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: MyNameIsThien on September 16, 2009, 11:42:30 PM This reminds me of my old custom SRI.

Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Sparrow on September 17, 2009, 04:44:24 PM If I'm not mistaken, I thought these intakes are not good for the car because they bring in hot/warmer air from the engine bay than the cooler air that is in the bumper. Warmer air is less dense than colder air so it has less O2 in it, thus less power.
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on September 17, 2009, 05:52:39 PM looks good. paint it blue to match engine
looks like my K&N sri but as you know its only 2.5" i wouldnt mind bigger size pipe or V2 Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: NVA-AV6 on September 17, 2009, 08:31:36 PM Quote from: "Sparrow" If I'm not mistaken, I thought these intakes are not good for the car because they bring in hot/warmer air from the engine bay than the cooler air that is in the bumper. That's whay I have the filter on the other side of the battery, as long as you are moving forward you will be getting cold air up thru where the stock air box normally goes. Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Rich01 on September 18, 2009, 09:10:07 PM Nice, this might be my next upgrade and I could probably get mine pipe red anodized from the place that my company uses.
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: NVA-AV6 on September 19, 2009, 07:08:46 AM Well materials for the first batch of 12 will be here late next week, only 3 are not spoken for.
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: NVA-AV6 on September 24, 2009, 06:04:56 AM Here is the support bracket as suggeted. There is a vibration mount on the bottom that screws into the threaded hole in battery tray and the other end of the bracket bolts into a threaded bung in the SRI pipe.

Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Rich01 on September 25, 2009, 08:30:41 PM That red is just right for me Paul. I was going to ask about getting the step up tubing in black instead of blue, but it looks like we were thinking the same thing. NICE!
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: NVA-AV6 on September 25, 2009, 08:50:34 PM ^Well, it will go out with the rest on Monday so you should have it sometime next week........
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: thisaznboi88 on September 25, 2009, 10:44:04 PM very nice work Paul. I kinda wish I took off my Fujita intake filter from the car.
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: telavani on May 25, 2011, 10:11:45 PM Hate to bring one back from the dead guys but I'm curious if Paul is still making these!
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: NVA-AV6 on May 26, 2011, 05:53:58 AM Yes I am still making these......
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: accordguy04 on May 26, 2011, 09:39:57 AM I got a strange question... Why does it have the intake temp sensor? What year was this made for? My '04 6-6 doesn't have the intake temp sensor... the K&N just had the port to connect the line to the valve cover...
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Fanitron on April 29, 2012, 02:15:10 PM Don't mean to revive a year old thread but I'm VERY interested in this SRI... it's exactly what I'm looking to get for my V6. Paul, are you still making these by any chance? and how much would shipping to Canada cost? Thanks!
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: ikethegreat on April 30, 2012, 07:59:20 AM I believe he stopped making them from lack of interest.
Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Fanitron on April 30, 2012, 06:50:15 PM I believe he stopped making them from lack of interest. :'( that sucks... looks like I'm back to searching for something of this quality. Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: B.R.03EX on April 30, 2012, 08:10:22 PM Just make one yourself. It is actually pretty simple, it just wont have the relocated AIT bung and the nice mounting hardware. I think someone dyno'd using a 4 inch intake they made and it made more power than an AEM V2. Here are two different threads about it:
http://www.v6performance.net/forums/7g-performance-discussion/213433-my-4-intake-project-testing-begins.html (http://www.v6performance.net/forums/7g-performance-discussion/213433-my-4-intake-project-testing-begins.html) And here is a DIY on how to make one but his is a CAI: http://www.v6performance.net/forums/7g-performance-discussion/214879-how-4-cai-intake.html (http://www.v6performance.net/forums/7g-performance-discussion/214879-how-4-cai-intake.html) Also, this one isn't a 4 inch intake but it is a made-from-scratch intake: http://elitecm.net/forums/index.php?topic=3889.0 (http://elitecm.net/forums/index.php?topic=3889.0) Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: ikethegreat on May 01, 2012, 08:27:12 AM :'( that sucks... looks like I'm back to searching for something of this quality. If you want a name brand intake, look for the K&N Typhoon CAI/SRI on ebay. It converts to either style in just a few minutes. I keep it as a SRI myself. Sounds great and looks nice in the engine bay. Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: Fanitron on May 01, 2012, 09:54:20 AM Thanks for all the feed back guys. Problem is, in Canada we pay up the wazoo for performance parts... it's brutal. The custom intake is the only cost-effective way to do it. I've found some 3" piping that I might just buy and mod myself to make it work. The 4" is very tempting but relocating the battery, or swapping for smaller, is not something I'm thinking of doing so it looks like 3" is the largest diameter I can do.
If anyone wants to sell their intakes, let me know! Title: Re: V6 Short Ram Intake Post by: 2i2dk1ny2i3 on January 20, 2015, 11:48:02 PM If I'm not mistaken, I thought these intakes are not good for the car because they bring in hot/warmer air from the engine bay than the cooler air that is in the bumper.
