Have you calibrated the hygrometer? And what are u using for humidity?

Analog hygrometers are garbage. They are completely inaccurate and are really only good for decoration. Get a digital hygrometer and calibrate it before you start guessing the humidity with that analog one.

A good xikar can be had for around 17 bucks on ebay.

Gel stuff isn't that great. It's only a 1 way hydration system. I would suggest Boveda packs or Heartfelt beads. Those are 2 way and will regulate humidity much better.

Yeah. I know what you mean by the gel stuff. It's not as good.
The two way humidification systems (Boveda packs and Heartfelt beads) will not only add humidification if the Rh is too low, but they will also draw in the excess moisture if the Rh is too high. The gel stuff only releases moisture, it doesn't regulate the Rh.

IMO, Boveda packs are the easiest solution. They're simple, replaceable, require no maintenance and last for months. I use them in my travel humidors all the time.
