Firestone does my alignment.  I've gone in there almost completely dumped and they aligned it.

I did pay with a credit card, so filing a dispute is a final recourse.  I'm just very disappointed how some dealerships try to take full advantage of their customers.  The average customer does not know enough about their car to really argue with what Honda tells them...and they are trusting what they are told.  When I was waiting today I could overhear a guy making phone calls to customers to report work on their cars.  I got the feeling they use scare-tactics to convince customers to approve additional work on their cars.  I realize its much of what the car business is....but I'm more disappointed in that there seems to always be someone who is trying to take advantage of you in this world. What happened to all the good honest people?

dude, good and honest, seriously? lol I am not trying to flame you but that ended in the 80's for the common society(so I am told) dealerships do things such as this to make money.. in today's world the dollar is almighty, they are just out to make a buck. If a dealership was goiing to do things for little to no profit they would not stay in business. It is that simple. I know where you are coming from and I can relate, Honda ran my credit 17 times to get my credit score low enough that they could give me a higher interest rate.

Isn't that something you can report as abuse and have the dealership that ran your credit 17 times fined or receive some other sort of penalty?

It depends on what you signed. You have to very carefully look at the wording when giving someone permission to run your credit. Always make sure it says that you give them consent to run 1 credit report if not they have the authority to run 100 if they see fit. Most places are honest and will only run only one but, if you don't read the fine print and consent and someone is dishonest your done for.

I have dealt with Nissan, Honda and now Porsche. All of the local dealers I have worked with, when you talk with them the right way, have genuinely taken care of me. With the exception of one dealership that tried to hard sell me services, I think it is all about the attitude and tone of your conversation with them, that will dictate the outcome.

I dunno man, I've always had to give written consent to have someone run my credit score. Verbal consent is WAY too sketchy.

Personally I think it's foolish that some people really believe that Honda dealerships have some sort of unspoken rule that says they will do everything right and not try to screw you over. Fact is, there are good honest people (which are rare like Seth said), and the people who want to take your money. You never know the motives of a stranger, and fact is that's usually who is working on your car. I would be pissed too if they charged more without authorizing the extra work. Last time I checked, stuck bolts are completely possible on stock suspension too.
