I didn't want to steal the OP's fire in the "Comptech SSK and monster knob" thread so I'll post up my pretty pictures here Smiley

As most of you know (or should know) I'm an OEM freak, and what you might not have known, is that I'm also a shift knob whore Smiley

I get tired of shift knobs easily and I've always flip-flopped between two predominant shifters; a Greddy coffin style shift knob, and a Skunk2 10th anniversary 440g shift knob.

I've also been a guinea pig for a lot of different shifter setups.  I've had the neuspeed short shift kit, I've run on a modified stock shift box, and I've gone as far as to cut and re-tap the stock shifter box without a short shift kit to achieve what I wanted.  After the threads that I tapped in the stock box randomly came undone, I decided to blow $230 on a Mugen sport shift assembly.

The description stated that Mugen had (among other awesome modifications) shortened the shift lever by approximately an inch.  When I still had my skunk2 shift knob it still sat ridiculously high for my tastes...The greddy shift knob gave the effect of a shorter shift lever because the threads started half way inside the knob and went to the top, whereas the skunk2 knob had the threads start from the bottom and they only went about half way into the knob.

As I stated in the monster knob thread, I've always wanted a spherical shift knob, and after seeing the S2000 CR's accessory shift knob, I determined that I had to have it.

Although Chris (MTSixspeed) had his shift lever cut and welded to lower the height, I decided to have the Angry Spic cut my shift lever, grind the lever down until the diameter matched the threaded portion that was cut off, and then tap the lever for the shift knob.

As usual I don't have pictures of how it was done because it was an "on the fly" modification, so I'll just say that when Angry Spic said he could do it today I basically grabbed my car, parked it outside my buddy's bay and ripped the shifter box out in 20 minutes.  After the modification was complete, I reinstalled the shifter box, installed the new shift knob, and here's what I ended up with.  Enjoy!

Needless to say..it's what I've always wanted Smiley

Let me know what you guys think Smiley

I like it. Reminds me of how my shifter sat in my old DA. Your boy, the Angry Spic did exactly what I did to my shifter in my DA. I also tapped the ITR knob I had to go all the way to the top like your Greddy knob did. This is definitely something I am looking into doing later on.

This is a love hate thing for me.  I love the way it looks, the lowered height, and the shorter throws.  I hate the fact that I need to get this done and spend the money on a Mugen SSK that will need to go under the knife before I install it..

I don't feel like painting all the panels black...it's too DX or LX-ish.  No offense to my buddies with LX's Smiley

Daaaaanm, that thing looks caved-in.  I love the shift know but I can't imagine the effort needed to shift with that thing!  How is it?
