How To: Reveal Hidden Beauty Under Ugly Black Pillar Post

ok guys so i started to think how can i improve the look of the pillars on the doors...i bought the chrome pillars from ebay about 6 month ago, and for some reason a just got tired of the chrome look..so i started to take them off and i noticed that under the black part on our pillars of the doors was painted the same color as the car, so i decided to give it a try and take it all off..

P.S Dont do this mod if you dont have patience and the time..

3 hour job..minimun.

tools you will need..

1.Blade used to cut window film. (any sharp blade would do it.)

2.100% Pure Acetone ( to remove the left over glue from the black vinyl thats on the pillars.)

3.Microfiber rags.

4. lots of patience and a pair of good hands..

ok so i started by taking out the old chrome pillars then with the blade i made an outline around the whole door pillar.. make sure you do it slow so you dont scrach the paint on the face of the pillars.



then i started to peel off little by little the left over 3m tape left over from the chrome pillars.

the grey area its the left over 3m.. and the back part its the black vinyl the car comes with on the doors..



once you have removed the whole black vinyl you will noticed there is glue residue. get you microfiber rag and the acetone and just wipe up and down on the glue..you will noticed it would start to come off.

then you will be left over with something like this..



then just do the same process all four doors..i didnt try to do the last 2 on the rear part of the doors because it look like its chrome under it..

And here its the way it looks once you have gone thru this painfull Mod..

do you guys think eventually water will leak in? both cars look great id like to do this but living in oregon would suck if water came in.

pretty sure it wouldnt matter....

we just took the vinyl off of the paint... either way that waters gonna go where its going the same way

i see no signs of leaking or damage, just try not to mess with the rubber gaskets and you should be fine

LOTS OF HEAT my man.... lots of heat... take yur time and be very careful with the razor blade
goo-be-gone and heat and you shouldnt have too bad of a time....paint comes out looking fresh too

i really dont think it'll work on coupes because the black piece on the coupes isnt just tape. it also wouldnt flow well in my opinion because the black makes it blend in more with the windows especially if you have tints

^+1.  those pieces aren't just stickied on there..  you have to take the inner panel off to get them off first i believe..  i'll let you know though.. i just ordered replacement parts for that because mine is alll faded.
