It's a good thing I looked at this thread out of the blue Mark. I don't usually read this thread. It's kind of hard to answer your question for a few reasons. I'm not sure what the exact size of your rims are, so making sure we are comparing apples to apples. My wheels are 18"x7.5" +45. What size are the GP's that you're getting? The second part of this, is that I have my front fenders rolled and pulled/flared out and my rear quarter panels are also rolled. I don't think that we would have a fair comparison since I'm guessing that your fenders and quarter panels are untouched. I wanna answer your question, but I don't think I can give you good advice. I can say though, when I was running TL's with 235/45/17's I would rub if I was lowered too much.

my bad tim, the wheels are 18x7.5 offset 48, and i was thinking of putting some 245/40 instead of 235 since the offset is bit high, i wanted to go wider, so the wheels would look more flushed to the fenders. After seeing this thread and your profile you have 245/40 on your buddy clubs. So with this setup would i have to roll my front and rear fenders even though the wheels have a 48 offset?

Well, depending on your ride height, you may be fine. I'm sure they will fit, but you'll rub if you're too low.

Hi guys, I need your help on this one. So wheel gurus, please chime in =)
I am looking at purchasing a set of 5zigen fn01r-c wheels, but I am in a bind. I am going for the wheels because they are light but I also kinda wanna go wide. I'm debating between 17's and 18's because I still want to retain comfort but I will sacrifice if going wide will benefit me more. (I plan on getting lowered on Neuspeed Racing Springs (2.2 F, 1.7 R).
Here is the link
http://www.1010tires.com/wheel.asp?whee ... n+-+Silver
My choices are:
17x8 w/ either 35 or 25 offset (whichever won't cause rubbing) 17 lbs each
18x7.5 w/ 43 offset 17.5 lbs each
18x8.5 w/ 35 or 30 offset (whichever won't cause rubbing) 22 lbs each
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Oh I forgot to mention, I also want to try to be as flush as possible.

^^ What kind of fender mods do you have done? Or are you planning to do? Also, do you have adjustable front and rear camber? Also, do you have a sedan or coupe?
17x8 +35 or +25 will rub without fender mods and some fairly aggressive camber. You would be looking at a mild to full roll and probably -3.5* to -4* of camber. You could possibly be looking at a slight to mid pull with +25. On the +35 setup, you could probably get away with a fender roll and -2* camber.
18x7.5 +43 should fit fine without having to do any fender mods and on normal camber settings. You won't sit as flush as the other setups though.
18x8.5 +35 or +30 will definitely rub without fender mods and aggressive camber. You would be looking at a full roll, possibly slight to mid pull, and -4* of camber.
Another important thing to note is the tire size you plan to run.
The camber numbers are a complete guess, and the coupe is more forgiving to wider wheels.
One thing to consider as well is running staggered offset. You could look at 18x8.5 +48 in the front, and 18x8.5 +35 in the rear. That should sit flush without going too extreme. If you want 17s, I would go with 17x8 +35 in the front, and 17x8 +25 in the rear.
It all depends how much camber you want, amount of tire stretch, and amount of fender work.

I don't have any fender mods done but if necessary, I will. No cambers yet, I'm just planning ahead.
Would it be possible to run 235/40/18 on the 18x7.5 wheel? Maybe the wider tire might help it seem more flush? And how badly would it throw the speedo off?
For reference, my car is a coupe. Stock tires = 205/60/16.
If I can run 235 on the 18x7.5 then I would eliminate the 18x8.5 as my option then.
Thanks for your help =)

You can run 235 on a 18x7.5 wheel, yes.
Here is a helpful link to calculate how much your speedo will be off:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
So it sounds like you want something wider without going extreme. 18x7.5 +43 looks to be your option. If it doesn't sit as flush as you want with the fender, you could always consider spacers.

FWIW, I'd get the 18x8.5 +48 with 255 or 265's. If they're not flush, I'd run spacers. I didn't do the math to see what would be closest to your stock tire size so your speedo would't be thrown off, so take that into consideration.
