Radar Detector Hardwire

Has anyone used a hardwire kit to hardwire their detectors?

I have the Escort hard wire kit and I'd like to find a wire under the dash/under the steering wheel column that I can tap into to wire my radar detector. The kit allows you to crimp a wire and use that as your 12v source.

Any hints on what wire I can touch. Preferably one that only gets 12v when I have the key in Accessory.

What do you mean? Use an add-a-fuse to an accessory fuse? Which fuse #s are accessory?

Um, no. If you want an easy tap under the center console, use either one of the outlets. One of those feeds my amp turn on and the other was my hard wire for my radar detector. I realize they both tie into the same fuse but I didn't when I first did it.

Don't use the taps that come with the kit.  They damage the wire you're tapping.  They're bad news and you'll end up repairing everything down the road.  There's a thread I posted a few years back that has all the pertinent wiring for modifications like this.  Here's the thread.  It should answer your questions.

So I shouldn't be using an add-a-fuse when installing this and just use the wire themselves?

If it were me, I'd solder and use heat shrink.
