They weren't installed on my car, made them for a friend. He had to get 18" to have enough room. Some 17" may fit like tl-s wheels but it is tight as hell!

I think the main benefit of using studs over bolts is reducing the potential of stripping out the threads in the aluminum. That and higher clamping force and getting proper torque ratings.

That's one reason why people upgrade from the stock head bolts to aftermarket head studs when building a motor or boosting their motor.

Found an interesting article about the use of studs vs bolts.

Stripping the treads would only be a result of cross threading them when the bolt is inserted. If the threads in the hole are dirty /rusted in some cases, there would be a big proportion of the torque applied that would only make the screw turning so at the same time less axial load that desired would be applied.

I don't know how I feel about these brackets being cloned and then posted up like they are.

Unless someone has a patent on the design, I don't see the issue.

In my defense, I only made them for a friend and it was for free. Only charged material cost. He wanted me to make more to sell them but I didn't want to because I felt bad making money with someone's else design. There's also the fact that ( even if i trusted the quality of what i made) if someone had an accident due to brake failure, I didn't want to be involved into any pursuit of anything.

I don't see anything wrong with him posting pictures of one set of brackets he made for a friend. I'd be pretty damn proud of machining something like that.

thanks  Grin I've heard today that Paul isn't even making those anymore. Saw them at two places over internet.
