about as long as pencil. but there's different holders for them. That's about the only thing I can think of.

Hmmm, what if you get a dry/wet vac, get an attachment that will go over the hole, then try to suck the damn thing out? Just make sure you clean out the vac's tub before you do this, so you can find the thing again.
Not sure if it'll work, but hey, you've tried everything else, so what the hell!

I was actually thinking about that idea too. But I figured, if he already tried pulling it out with pliers and it didn't move, then a vacuum cleaner won't be able to help either.

You may want to try locking forceps (kelly clamp). It's long and thin enough to reach in there to get it, and the locking mechanism makes it easier to get a good grip.

Dont forget this rubber is hard as fuck. I was thinking of finding a long ass 15" radiator hook pick.

Bummer. Does the socket have a warranty. You could have them recoup the expenses to have a mechanic get it out.

well good news guys, i finally got it out with in a hour with a small knife and knitting needles
.
what i used to suck out the chunks of rubber was straws duct taped around the vacuum. took time, but i finally got it all out. thank you guys for the tips.
