It is It is a felony to sell a firearm to someone from another state without going through a FFL. Not really heavily enforced, unless the ATF is actually looking for it.

Damn this really blows.  She lives in PA and I'm in MD.  I thought all we had to do was meet at a MD police barracks to have them transferred.

Like I said, it's not really heavily enforced. I've bought from and sold to my good friend who lives in GA(I live in TN) a few times and never had any issues arise. I've even went to a store with him to purchase a brand new gun for him.

So they shouldn't give us any shit by going to the barracks and having them swapped?   Or is there another way to do it?

That varies from state to state, dave may offer a little more insight. The way it works here is you go to a pawn shop and pay their fee per gun for them to transfer the firearms to your name. Plus there should be a 10 dollar background check as well.

i could honestly care less about going through a ffl with a private seller. i would rather not go through a ffl because i dont want the government in my business anyways but if the seller requires it, no big deal.

AVOID botachtactical.com!!! I placed an order this morning for a magazine for my XDs. folks on XDtalk.com were saying that they are out of stock and back ordered. So I attempted to call them 6 times without a response. Got an email from them asking if they could help me because I had unsuccessfully attempted to contact them. Replied asking if my item was in stock and would ship within a timely manner and told them that I do not mean to rush them but just wanted to make sure I didnt back order something that I could buy from Springfield. Never heard back from them. Checked my order status on their website and it said that my order was cancelled.

I've been hearing about a lot of people having problems with Botach Tactical. I've ordered from them once and didn't have a problem but a buddy of mine has had a couple issues with them. It's a shame too because they usually have decent prices.

Alright so in light of recent events I need to do something. What is a decent moderately priced home protection weapon. I'd like to keep it in a normal safe or lock box so not sure a shot gun fits the bill.

Most anything with a 9mm ball or hollow point round will do the job. The ammo is fairly cheap. The biggest thing is how comfortable you feel with the weapon you choose. Hitting a range and trying different weapons is the way to find out. Also, if they'll let you, give yourself scenarios where you would be in close range (25 ft or less) rather than long range shooting like some ranges like to do. If you have indoor ranges near you, find out if they have low light shooting days.
