i would think NY is pretty damn hard to get one... with all the gun control and crime control issues
i know in PA... to get a carriers permit you have to have someone who already has their permit to sign off on you.... then have 2 other people vouch for you, these names are probably kept on file somewhere

NYC has a 5 day waiting period then you can purchase it, as far as a permit to carry I think you need to demonstrate a need to carry. As in personal threats on you. not sure on the last part thou.

yeah after reading.... buying one to keep in your household may not be as hard as i thought
i have my grandfathers 80+ year old 20 gauge shotgun and a .22 rifle in my apt.... just needed to register them in NJ
might give them back to my dad... no need for guns....
anyone breaks in... my blue pit (dutch) will snap their leg off.....2nd line of defense is my ferocious cat named Slut.... shes good for at least tangling up his legs when he walks past my couch

I have a work related reason to carry. My major concern is the one ticket I got for pissing in the streets a few years ago… I know I’m a criminal. LOL

So it is just to have it. I see no wrong in that. Personally, I love guns. I want to own a few myself, but knowing my wife, she'll figure out a way to "collect on my life insurance" if you know what I mean. J/K.
