I'm looking to purchase a transmission cooler soon and I would like to know what's the ideal size to get for the I4 automatic? Also, is there any brand that performs better than the other or it doesn't matter who makes it? TIA

You may want to take the time to contact
Level 10 Performance Transmission Systems
about this one. They offer AT upgrades for our cars and would be able to provide some great insight to what you're looking to do. You may find out that this is an upgrade that isn't necessary based on the power you have. I would take the time to call them and speak to someone there for advice.

hmmmm i have a B&M Universal Automatic Transmission SuperCooler rated at 13,000 BTU 11"x7-1/2"x3/4" part # 70268
works reall good for me....i noticed that during the cold season the temperature didnt even register on my Autometer Transmission Oil temp gauge at highway speeds.... i came off the highway to see if it was broken but the temperature began to rise a lil while i was driving to the rest area
all in all it works great for me

Thanks for the tip, I'll shoot them an email when I get a chance to see what my options are. I'm just doin it for the benefit of keeping the trannie fluid cooler.

I think I've seen that brand on ebay, but had different sizes so I wasn't sure. I'll check that out as well tho.

I was wondering if the tranny cooler is too cold would that interfere with how the fluid flow?

I wouldn't think the flow would be affect based on it being too cold. I think if it was too thick then ya that might be an issue, but I have no definitive proof of that.

When I did the manual to automatic transmission swap, I didn't want to change my radiator. On an automatic car like yours, the transmission cooler is built into the radiator, so in my case, I went external and it also runs cooler than having the radiator/transmission cooler in one unit.

That is a bit of an overkill for his set up but if you have the money, you could go to them but if you're like me and like to save a bit. I would go to IPT. The website is:

I've talked to the owner about rebuilding the automatic transmission for my car before I put it in because I wanted to rebuild it just to freshen it up abit for longevity reasons. Being that the transmission had approx. 40XXX miles on it, he steered me away unless I really needed it done. while I was at it, I was thinking of putting an LSD in an automatic which is possible. It would be an aftermarket LSD and not an OEM.
My friend has a supercharged Tacoma and had the valve body upgrade done by them. You could feel the clutches grab instantaneously. This mod would reduce wear on the clutch packs. Too bad our valve body is internal unlike the Tacoma which is hidden underneath the transmission pan.

It is possible but I would not know how to run the in-let and the out let on a manual transmission except use an adaptor on both the drain plug and fill plugs. That's the only possible way I could think of.

which line do I need to tap? I am trying to look for the return line from the radiator. So its going to be like tranney --> radiator --> cooler--> tranney.
Let me know I am planing to do it next week. I have my honda ATF ready also yay ^^

that is exactly how i have mine done..... the inlet to the radiator is on the driver side and the outlet from the radiator to the tranny is on the passenger side

Yup, you can't miss those two lines. You can even see em looking straight down over the radiator.

The tranney cooler a bitch to install. unless you can get the car on a ramp. My car was too low and the floor jack couldn't get it off the ground high enough so that I can drain the fluid. Also it is impossible to zip tie it on the the radiator/ consider. Piss me off. Since you cannot pass the zip ties from one side to the other and I didn't want to drill a hole in the radiator.
My advice is to get a longer tranney cooler so that it would be easier to zip it since you can reach your hand into the little space inbetween and pull it out.
All I can say is that it works. and lucky I have a front license plate. Blocks it so you can see it when you are looking down. lol

Nice job on the install. I think you had so much trouble installing that cooler cuz I dont see any mounting points or brackets at all, but zip ties FTW

yeah I didn't know how the guy on gen7 did it. His was really clean. I couldn't get the zip tie to the other side of the radiator. W/e I will just cover the front bottom with a mesh grill. hahaha. All the piping and stuff are solid so I am happy.
