how do i open up the ports on my router for my xbox live wireless to work?

my friends and i are able to invite each other to a party and i am able to invite them but when i try to start a game or join their game, i dont show up in theirs or they arent in mine. they said i have to open up the ports on my router since i am using the wireless xbox networking piece. 1 of my friends had to do the same thing and he is the only one i can see on a game. i know you have to do it through the router on the main computer it is connected to and change the #s in the box and such. does anyone know how?
