Car History:
Bought car used from my father with 175 000 KM on it in  November 2012. On Christmas that year my ex-girlfriend's father backed-up in my car in is driveway ( Said he forgot my car was there  ::) ) Anyway, Since my bumper and one headlight were wrecked I decided to convert my front end. Since I'm only working part time (still at school) my budget is limited and I usually do my mods when i have to replace some part and i tell myself "while i'm there why not upgrade"

Also forgot something, at school i'm part of SAE Formula of Université Laval. It is a engineering competition that takes place in Michigan that consist of designing and building a small formula 1 style race car and compete among other universities across the world (Mainly USA universities). Last year we finished 5th among 120 teams.
If you guys want to take a look at what it looks like here's two videos from our team:
Formule SAE Université Laval - Endurance Michigan 2013 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moQcAH70yfo#ws)
Essais des ailerons 1er mai KCR (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuwypOwOyIM#ws)

We currently run a Honda CBR600RR engine with a GT12 turbocharger

My custom made short ram intake. When this filter is going to get dirty, i'll upgrade with a k&n universal filter. I think it doen't look too bad considering it wasn't made for my car and since I got it for free (exept three collars), I am very pleased with it.

Car parts !!

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone016_zps7b7d52fc.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone016_zps7b7d52fc.jpg.html)

My friend working under the car.
Also, found out there is another hole for the hood prop rod that makes it open much more straight, helped a lot to work on the exhaust manifold.

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone019_zps0f32cabb.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone019_zps0f32cabb.jpg.html)
(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone021_zpse1335608.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone021_zpse1335608.jpg.html)

Exhaust pipe, catalytic converter, knuckles and CV drive-shafts removed.
Thought the grease color was weird but people for local accord club told me it was normal for old grease.

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone024_zps8ac4c806.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone024_zps8ac4c806.jpg.html)
(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone023_zpsa6092498.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone023_zpsa6092498.jpg.html)

Removed the exhaust manifold without breaking any bolt/stud. It was quite a relief !
I had to remove it because one of the spring bolt for the flex pipe was broken. I had to cut off the old welded nut on it so I could put a new one on.

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone027_zps56b203a5.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone027_zps56b203a5.jpg.html)

Then, I put it back on and installed the flex pipe and the Magnaflow cat. Secured it temporarily with a milk crate.
Don't have a picture of it but jointed the long exhaust pipe with my old muffler pipe at the rear at the straight part just before the 90° bend with an exhaust pipe connector and two exhaust clamps. It will do the job since I'm supposed to put a custom cat back later on.

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone028_zps6656d4fb.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone028_zps6656d4fb.jpg.html)

Then, the real fun began ....
Tried to push out the old ball joint with this tool but instead of removing the ball joint assembly, the ball itself went through the back of the ball joint housing.
I got frustrated so I decided to put it upside down with a vise and hit it like a mad man. (and it worked really well ! )
Putting the new one back was quite easy with the tool. (the balljoint was in the freezer for 24h too)

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone029_zps7272e18d.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone029_zps7272e18d.jpg.html)
(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone031_zpsd254c1fa.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone031_zpsd254c1fa.jpg.html)
(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone032_zpsdd86e204.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone032_zpsdd86e204.jpg.html)

Those F**king lower control arm bushing got me really mad !
All the bolt were stuck, not with the nut but with the inside bushing sleeves.
Tried every thing I could to get them out but the were welded by the rust with the bolts. (heating, hitting, yelling, praying)

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone026_zps82ba423e.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone026_zps82ba423e.jpg.html)
(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone034_zps3b247731.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone034_zps3b247731.jpg.html)
(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone036_zps803b5c23.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone036_zps803b5c23.jpg.html)

The next day I decided to just cut them off and put new LCA's on each sides.
I have to say this was quite the hardest job I have done so far on a car.

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone038_zps0f630189.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone038_zps0f630189.jpg.html)

On a better note! When to Honda Fest in Quebec with our Accord club, I was quite a nice day. Had a lot of fun seeing those crazy setups on the drag strip and even tried out mine for fun.
On this picture my car looks even higher because I had my front end on the asphalt. I thought I might had an oil leak, but turned out the oil stain wasn't from me.

Must be driving 100x better with all the suspension parts changed!

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on August 17, 2014, 08:03:22 PM
Well yeah it's much better than before but still got my sway bar links to change they make quite some noise on the rear and had to cut the front ones, I could get the nut off. But I have a guy from my local club that as tl a-spec front and rear sway bars and links to sell in few weeks so i'll grab them !

Is was driver quite well for a while but now my CV shafts began to shake like crazy, ( I suppose it's the cause) I'll do an alignment and re-balance my wheels, if that doesn't solve my issue I'll get a replacement since they have a lifetime warranty. I still have my old oem shafts so I might also take a look if i can cheaply and easily rebuild those.

For now I am more concerned about my engine, it is degrading quite quickly so, I am beginning gathering my stuff for the K24A JDM (from odyssey absolute) swap

Title: Re:
Post by: Mike on August 17, 2014, 10:02:45 PM
After market axles appear to have some longevity issues. One of mine has the shake again also.

Post by: timot_one on August 17, 2014, 11:39:22 PM
I've stopped using inexpensive parts store aftermarket axles because I've had them be back right out of the box.  I'm hoping I don't have issues with the 500 hp axles I got from Insane Shafts.

Looking forward to the K24A swap.  I've never heard of a K24A motor though.  Usually guys talk about the K24A3 from Euro R Accords.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on August 18, 2014, 08:30:06 AM
Yeah well, it was pretty cheap and I was quite broke so i preferred having a shaky axle that worrying about an axle that could break at anytime and do some damage.

The K24A I am looking for is almost the same as the k24a2, but with jdm specs. It is found in the odyssey absolute and also the accord type s from japan (same as TSX from america)

What do you mean by JDM specs?  I'm curious to know what the actual differences are.  Is there some reason why you're looking for this k24a over a k24a2?  You may be better off getting a k24a2 since it wouldn't need to be imported, unless there's already one you know of that's in North America.  Seems like it's more trouble than it's worth if it's almost the same as a k24a2.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal

To be honest, I don't know much about the real difference. It is the guy who will swap my car that suggested me to take a jdm over a usdm k24a2 ( He is like the honda swap guru over here, I trust him) and I think he told me that they (jdm k24a) had cable throttle body so I wouldn't have to reuse my old/buy another throttle body.

But JDM is always better right ;)  :D

It sounds like he's trying to milk you for more money by using the magic buzz word, JDM. From my research, a k24a does not exist. The Accord Type S and Odyssey Absolute both use the exact same k24a2 that's in the TSX. I don't know everything about k series motors, but I know a bit more than the average Honda/Accord owner. Maybe this guy is confusing it with the k20a or it's possible he's trying to get you to pay for more money.

If it were me, I'd just get a k24a2 long block (preferably an 06-07) and use your Accord throttle body or use a larger RSX Type S throttle body on an 04-05 TSX IM. The fact that the k24a2 has a DBW TB is a non-issue because you can reuse what you already have.

Then again, what do I know?

Yeah, well he doesn't sell engines, he buy's them from jdm shop's when someone need's it. He normally only install them all day. I don't want to criticize or judge your knowledge in any way, I have read a lot around here and I can definitively tell you know a lot. But the K24A really exists, se here on the engine stamp

 http://jdmautodepot.com/98-02-honda-accord-f23a-2-3l-sohc-vtec-engine-only-jdm-f23a-accord/03-08-honda-odyssey-rb1-absolute-tsx-accord-type-s-obd2-enigne-replacement-for-k24a2-jdm-k24a.html?___SID=U (http://jdmautodepot.com/98-02-honda-accord-f23a-2-3l-sohc-vtec-engine-only-jdm-f23a-accord/03-08-honda-odyssey-rb1-absolute-tsx-accord-type-s-obd2-enigne-replacement-for-k24a2-jdm-k24a.html?___SID=U)

And I wouldn't mind an usdm k24A2 anyway but it seems they are has pricey and has rare to find over here has a jdm one. It even seems easier to import one from japan than to find one here from a tsx in good condition.

Post by: timot_one on August 18, 2014, 05:27:39 PM
Like I said, I don't know everything. I wasn't able to find it in my limited research and I have never seen anyone reference a k24a in the past. I stand corrected.

It seems like it's identical with a k24a2. I would treat it as if it is a k24a2 though, because the specs listed are the exact same. If that is a low mileage motor, than it's a decent price. If it's a higher mileage motor, then they may be banking on it being JDM to get people to pay top dollar for it. It just seems odd to me that it would be harder to find a k24a2 motor over one from Japan. Just my two cents.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on August 18, 2014, 05:43:52 PM
Yeah well JDM shops are overpricing their sales wishing for noobs to buy without really knowing the value, but the guy who is going to swap my engine roughly quoted me 2K for engine+ install. (based on a previous install )
For a reference, Found a k24a2 at a scrap yard, 2007 with 99,419 miles (160,095 km) at 1362$

I'd find out the mileage of that k24a motor before you commit to it.

That's the issue with jdm engines, ofthen you don't know the history of it and just have to wish they are in good shape.... :-[

That is a lot of money to rely on a wish.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on August 19, 2014, 09:06:52 AM
Sure is ... I will ask him further questions about why a JDM over a USDM if it seems about the same and seems cheaper to buy a TSX engine from the scrap yard.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on August 19, 2014, 09:53:19 AM
I'm interested to find out what makes the k24a special.  JDM specs make it sound like they're just throwing out the JDM word to make it seem like it's better, without providing any actual information.  This is a good way to see if the guy is honest or full of shit.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on August 19, 2014, 10:21:05 PM
Asked him, couldn't really get a clear answer about why a JDM one over a USDM. But he told me that every engine is different and any of the two can be good or bad depending of their condition. It is just that usually engines imported from japan are in better shape than the ones used in the winter from where I live.
But K24A from accord type s and odyssey absolute are basically k24a2's built in japan.

Started up the car this morning. Heard a loud whining noise, increasing with rpm and when I turn the steering. Said to myself, well the power steering pump must be damaged and needs to be replaced. When I got to work, I checked the fluid level and realized it was really low, then I saw a mess down the return line. The metal line  (number 16 on picture) was so rusted that it began to leak. I can't figure out exactly where it leaks from so i will replace a part of it with a rubber hose to fix it temporarily. I Don't have a honda dealer close to me, what type of power steering fluid can I use to top off the reservoir until I replace the whole line?

Use the Honda fluid or similar ie Advance Auto brand formulated for Honda/Acura vehicles. I've seen others such as Gunk cause pump issues in the past.

Post by: timot_one on August 29, 2014, 09:54:24 PM
I just used Prestone power steering fluid.  You'd be fine with the auto zone/advance auto/napa brand for now until you get the leak fixed.  If you're looking to order the line, call AutoFair Honda and ask for Ryan or Colin and let them know that I sent you to them.  They will take care of you.

Don't forget I live in Canada, shipping might be costing me more than to buy it here. Anyway already ordered one from a local Honda dealer, cost me 90$ + tx and should get it by Wednesday

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal

Those guys ship all around the world, which is why I recommended them.  I just looked up the price and it's $47 usd.  Even with shipping, I'm guessing it would have cost less.  Just some food for thought.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on September 02, 2014, 09:00:32 AM
I Could check out but I know there are some online honda parts stores (Don't remember which ones exactly) that ships everywhere except to Canada. There is some kind of embargo established by Honda Canada to restrain importation of parts from USA so they can continue to f**k us real good with overpriced parts.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on September 02, 2014, 09:36:06 AM
That's understandable. Talk to the guys over at AFH and you'll get taken care of. They're great
to deal with.

Also, I get a few parts from a company based in Canada and it never seems to be an issue shipping to the US.

About that leak ! Fixed that up today with genuine parts and fluid. Return line, 2 clamps, 2 plastic clips, 1 bolt and 4 small bottles of PS fluid. Total cost, 175$ Canadian. Ok, there it goes !

Here is the old line that was leaking.

Removing the line was easy, I could cut it to get it out. Putting it back is not the same story. Had to remove side engine mount, move away the CV axle and few brackets to have enough space to place the new line at its place.

While I was at it, I cleaned the reservoir, painted the bracket and painted the bottom of the engine mount.

Looks like it was time to replace that line. Makes me glad I don't have hydraulic power steering any more though.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on September 04, 2014, 04:19:35 PM
Well, I like the feeling of a hydraulic power steering. I don't know about the EPS unit you got, but I've driven few cars with EPS and it seems like you can't feel the road at all.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on September 04, 2014, 04:49:47 PM
The issue I have had with EPS in other cars like my wife's Ft is that it is twitchy as hell. That could have to do with the shorter wheel base because I don't notice much of a difference with my EPS set up.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on September 04, 2014, 05:01:06 PM
Did you go with EPS to get more space for your SC or just wanted a EPS?

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on September 04, 2014, 06:36:39 PM
I did the EPS set up because I already had the rack and controller. Then my hydraulic rack went and all I needed was the wire harness and it was almost plug and play. The lack of a PS pump didn't really come into play with the SC though.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on September 04, 2014, 06:40:51 PM
Oh okay ! Don't have neither of those laying around and got other stuff to fix so I guess my hydraulic PS is going to stay ;)

Damn, you gotta wash that engine bay and under carriage more often or something. Those Canadian winters are tough. Too bad it wasn't the pressure, would've been a lot easier pending the side going to the rack isn't seized. Good job on getting everything done.

HUGE oil/dirt/carbon build up!
For now I put everything back to its place, i'll remove everything again another day and will clean the EGR and PCV valve.

Maybe a Stuck-open PCV and/or EGR valve be a part of the reason why my car burns that much oil.

Good job. I'm sure that cleaning everything helped a lot. A proper catch can from your PCV should help reduce carbon build up too.

Post the video with some basic instructions and tools/materials used in a new thread. It's definitely sticky material.

You may want to look away from the eBay catch cans. Mine started rusting or something on the inside. When I drained it, there were small brown flakes coming out all over the place. Definitely didn't want that going back into the engine, so I removed it.

yeah not sure to buy one.... I try to put the least money possible on that engine, for the time it has before it is changed, it will stay like this. it never has been cleaned before, I think (and hope) it won't build up as much in the next 6 months

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal

Yeah it could, so what would be a "proper" catch can ? any brands/models that could easily fit in my engine bay ? Don't want to pay 300$ for one ether .

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on October 08, 2014, 11:13:27 AM
A proper catch can usually has a baffle in it so the oil vapors don't get sucked back into the intake.  I had a Greddy one at one point, but that also needed a baffle.  I don't have any of my vent lines going to the intake any more.  I vented to atmosphere, but a custom catch can is something that I'm going to be having fabricated next.  You mentioned that you don't want to spend $300, which is high for an off the shelf catch can.  Realistically, what are you willing to spend?  I like the Radium Engineering (www.radiumauto.com (http://www.radiumauto.com)) catch cans, but it may be more than you're willing to spend.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on October 08, 2014, 12:40:08 PM
this is what I am talking about a 300$ catch can, seems to be really good quality but it maybe is too fancy for me.

http://www.mishimoto.com/mishimoto-baffled-oil-catch-can.html (http://www.mishimoto.com/mishimoto-baffled-oil-catch-can.html)

This one from Radium Engineering as you suggested seems more affordable and still good quality, but still a bit much.

http://www.radiumauto.com/Universal-Catch-Can-Kit-P178.aspx (http://www.radiumauto.com/Universal-Catch-Can-Kit-P178.aspx)

What I am looking for is more a cheapest possibly that still does the job  (not an empty container with 2 fittings on top)

K24a2 is going in Monday, The Manual Conversion will be later on since I found out that i'll have to do some custom brackets to make the clutch pedal and master hold safely in place.

Why custom brackets?

Are you using k tuner for tuning?

Check out this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpDvzmLt1IY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpDvzmLt1IY)

Auto and manual firewall aren't the same, the harness needs to be relocated and the spot to place the pedal isn't there either.

It might not be as hard as it seems but it definitely isn't a bolt on conversion.

Yes I am using the Ktuner ecu.

That's what happens when you drink too much redbull haha !
Next in the near future, pretty much nothing. I'll run this setup for a while, and when the time and money will be there. I'll begin the manual conversion.

Good stuff. Wish you luck with the AT to MT swap when that happens.

Thanks man, the conversion shouldn't be that hard, just time consuming. I got pretty much everything I need for it from the donor tsx I got the engine from. missing shifter box, pedals and master cylinder. Maybe axles too if the ones from the tsx don't fit (maybe too short)
I'll need a second car during that time and I can't afford that for now.

If you need a shift box and shift cables, I have some that I'm not using. The cables have solid bushings too. Let me know if you're interested.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on December 06, 2014, 09:09:18 AM
I will have the shift cables soon ( he didn't finish to remove everything from his TSX, he is swaping a J35A8 in it, so everything he doesn't need goes to me)
For the shift box, how much are you asking for ? I also have to think about shipping cost. I will probably end up digging the junk yard for this.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on December 06, 2014, 10:47:14 AM
I was thinking like $25 plus shipping. I would probably be shipping it from Ontario. I will be there for Christmas visiting family. That should make shipping faster and less expensive.

What are you planning on doing with it? A K24A1 head swap would be a good upgrade.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on December 19, 2014, 10:00:53 PM
This engine will not go back into the car (well it's not planned to). I plan to use it as my test dummy. This is my first engine rebuilt and I think this is the perfect engine to learn how to do it. If it is successful, well I probably can sell it as a k24a4 replacement engine and maybe I can do a bit of money on it. On the other hand, if something goes wrong, the engine in pieces is worth more (the base is often used for k24/k20 Frank) than as a complete one, so its not a big deal if I mess something up.
I want to do a stock rebuild for now, if during dismantle I see a major part that need replacement I might consider other options.
I'm still not sure whether use oem parts for gasket and stuff or go cheaper with other brands (open to suggestions on cheap but still good quality parts). I don't really want to put 1000$ on new honda parts to sell the engine 800$

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on December 20, 2014, 02:03:43 PM
Go with OEM gaskets and bearings.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on December 20, 2014, 03:47:59 PM
How much could I sell it afterward if it is all in top shape with oem parts ?

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on December 20, 2014, 05:56:32 PM
Ehh. If you're rebuilding it just to sell it, you probably won't make much from it or even get your money out of it.

Yup!  Don't know when, but when the time will be right, I'll be ready.
Only need clutch master, pedals, and shifter box (this one is broken on one of the bolt holes)
there might be other stuff I forgot I would need but I think this is it

Where's your list, do you have manual gauge cluster, clutch fluid reservoir, IM if different? Just a thought.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on January 03, 2015, 01:06:13 AM
If you need a shift box, I still have a few lying around. I would recommend picking up an EM1 clutch master cylinder. It isn't plagued with the problems that the newer ones have.

Haven't done a list yet, I'll probably keep my auto cluster ( still works, there will be non-working PRND lights but who cares), The reservoir was included in my mind when I said clutch master. I have a TSX IM from a MT donor and it works so I guess that's no problem there.

If you need a shift box, I still have a few lying around. I would recommend picking up an EM1 clutch master cylinder. It isn't plagued with the problems that the newer ones have.

I'll let you know for the shifter box when I'll be closer of doing the conversion if I still need one. Thanks for the tip about the master cylinder. Is it a direct fit ? bolt pattern, connection to the pedal and stuff ?

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on January 04, 2015, 02:24:18 AM
Yes. The clutch master cylinder is a direct fit. It's what I use on my car. In the past, I have destroyed clutch master cylinders. I haven't had any issues with this one. I put 6000 miles on it with a Competition Stage 4 and now use it with my Competition Twin Disc.

Went back to stock intake system for the winter, hope it solves my check engine issue.

Had a check engine P0128 - Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature), changed the thermostat with new oem one. few days later still comes on. So i decided to let it warm up and datalog intake and coolant temp.

Found out that because of the short ram, at idle, as the car warms up the air in the engine bay gets hotter and the iat sees the temperature hotter than it really is.

My theory is that the ecu thinks that the outside air is warm and the engine should warm up faster according to the datas from the IAT and ECT.

Did another datalog today with the stock intake now in place.
I did not expect that :S
The IAT reading is almost the same, just a bit colder through the curve but I doubt the short ram intake was actually the issue.
The check engine light hasn't come on yet tho, It almost always came on when I was parked in the underground parking of my university for a few hours, I'll try that out to see if comes on with the stock setup.

Another thing, damn I miss my short ram sound ! Almost can't hear anything on high RPMs :(

So here is the pictures of the inside of the merges, they are not perfect, but seems rather good tho. I'll probably use a wire brush on a long stick with a drill to clean the stuff inside there before installing them. Talking of installing them, there is a dude on facebook that tried installing them on his 04 k24a2 auto accord (everybody wants to do the swap since it's now so easy and cheap with ktuner). Anyways, he got fitment issues with the passenger axles rubbing with one of the runners. I hope he has one with a manufacture error and that mine will fit. no ready to convert MT yet and want my exhaust to be done this summer.

So, here is my install of my cheap 4 channel amp in my car, used a 4 gauge power wire and 12 gauge speaker wires
I'll comment before some of the pictures:

Passed the wire through the rubber thing that the oem harness used, but could not get it to fit in the middle part, so I made is pass beside it.

The amplifier itself, with the ski flap taking quite some space, it was a tight spot to fit the amp, even tho it is really small.

My Rockford fosgate punch front speakers, mounted using a plastic adapter that makes the speaker fit the factory location.

I had a surprise on the driver side, it is not a rubber boot like the passenger side, it is a solid connector, so I could not pass a wire there. No problem, I removed the door, drilled a hole and passed the wire through it with a rubber sleeve to protect the wire.

The rear speaker speakers wired, the speakers I bought used few weeks ago.

The final installation, using high level signal wires as the input. The sound was awful worse than stock, and as a bonus, i had some electrical noise, could even hear the turn signal relay clicking in the speakers

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/C03EF600-F902-4A16-AB47-BB13E7EB20A1_zpsayx3t5vd.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/C03EF600-F902-4A16-AB47-BB13E7EB20A1_zpsayx3t5vd.jpg.html)

So i decided to do a test before throwing the amp in the trash, I hooked up my ipod to the rca inputs. Oh my god the difference ! the sound was now loud and clear, no more whine when the engine is running. I'll order a lc6i soon and hook it up. It should make a huge improvement. I wanted to test the hi level input and all I can say is that it suck, a lot.

And I also ditched the Hellastock stickers for some nice EliteCM.net ones.

Went to the car wash, while I was waiting in the line, checked around the car for rust spots. Damn it's getting outta control. I'll have to save for getting the roof and rear quarter done soon. the doors and trunk will wait, since they can be changed without issue. Might do some touch up on the rear door to dissimulate it a bit. Damn that sucks, that's what it is living in canada ....

Anyways, still will all this rust, I still think it looks nice overall, much better than the average accord over here.

Ill have to fix my driver headlight, the clear on it is pretty much shot, i'll use my 3M headlight kit on this one and wax it afterward.

Also, I just finished my semester, so I'm going back to my parent's place for the summer, where the garage is. This means that the nice stuff will start to happen :D

Moogs link kit freshly greased up with the new gun I bought. Will install them at the same time I swap for my summer tires. No more suspension noise !

They seems so have a better tightening and loosening design than what the oem got with the allen key. hope these will hold up better then my previous non-oem ones.

(these are slightly used ones btw)

Installed my front suspension, now stuck on the rear, can't remove the shock bolt, stuck in the sleeve like my front was last summer. ordered the bolt and should finish tomorrow. For now my car looks funny. Hard to believe this is the highest setting for the fronts, really don't see myself going any lower.

It will level out some when you get the rear lowered.

It's fairly common for bolts to seize in the bushing sleeve. I usually just buy all new bolts before I start any sort of project like that since they are prone to seizing.

Yeah I bought two bolt (one for each side), but turns out i got one side out without cutting, we'll see on the other side.

Went ahead and did the rears too, with spare bolts in case I'd need to cut them. I succeeded removing the bolt on the passenger side but not the driver side, i replaced the bolts anyways since I have them and kept the old good one in my bag of spare bolts. So my car is at the highest of the 2 rings up front and the rear is at the middle of the 3 rings.

Nice rust ! the caliper and rotor paint didn't last long either.

Installed my 60A innovative mounts, wasn't to bad to install since most of the bolt where removed from my swap, rear is the hardest to get but with a swivel and an extension it's not that bad. What is bad this is the vibration, holy shiet, I did not expect that at all. they say it gets better over time but it still is pretty extreme ! I did a video about it, showing how much much it vibrates inside the car.

Found a oil leak on my K24A2, seems to be from the oil pressure switch, I'll take my spare one from my old A4.

Tried putting weight to see if i like it better with the rear lower, so I got in order : None, 200lbs, 400lbs
I personally prefer the 200lbs setup. I'll try go go a notch lower when I get my camber kit on.

Seeing that video with the vibrations makes me glad I stuck with oem mounts.  Screw that!

I'm surprised you screwed the deck lip spoiler on.  Most people just use 3m tape.

Good work overall!

I have to say, it's already better than it first was, guess it gets a bit loose over time.
I did screw it in since this is a oem decklid spoiler and it as studs on it. Either had to cut the studs, of drill the trunk.
As you may have seen, my trunk needs to be replaced anyways, some hole in it was not that much of a matter to me.

Vibration will get better once the mounts are broken in. I remember how mine was with the new clutch and all. Thing felt like a track car for about a month. My hood still vibrates at certain rpm when idling and the dash when i do spirited shifting.

If you think 60a mounts are bad, you don't want to even know how bad the 85a mounts I had were. 75a is a lot better for me now, but like everyone said, it will get better in time.

i'm getting used to it, and when i'll be MT, it will be much better on a red light, being on neutral (i do it on my auto because otherwise it is awful ) Got just to find where one of the rattle comes from, like a metal rattle near the cluster, makes the sound at around 2500-3000 rpm. appart from that, you get used to it.

This week purchase !  :)
Bought all this for only 150$, quite happy !
This is a borla V6 coupe exhaust, the rears mufflers were replaced with some walker quiet flow. Was installed on a k24 sedan. will get some turn down tips installed on them until i get my rear bumper and lip painted. Then will probably get another borla muffler or might buy 2 universal mufflers and get the borla tips on.

So, finally went ahead and bought myself a LC6i to hook up my amp with the RCA inputs.

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone%20013_zps9tppajvt.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone%20013_zps9tppajvt.jpg.html)

I absolutely wanted to be able to put stuff throught the opening of the back seat, so it needed to be mounted to the back seat. the thing is the space is too little to fit both amp and loc back there because of the "ski trap" (that what we call the opening in the middle anyways).

(http://i854.photobucket.com/albums/ab109/Pascal_Godin/iPhone%20012_zpskfuscgtn.jpg) (http://s854.photobucket.com/user/Pascal_Godin/media/iPhone%20012_zpskfuscgtn.jpg.html)

So what i've done is measure the space available and 3D cad the back seat and the audio components. Then I designed a simple mount for them to be on.

It fits pretty well, I now only need to connect everything up and tune it. Quite excited to test it out.

That's a real bummer the LOC didn't fit on the other side of your "ski trap". Install looks nice. Are you planning on covering the MDF with carpet?

Also, what CAD software are you using?

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal

It will look 100x better if you cover it in carpet.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on November 09, 2015, 08:50:15 PM
I've finished the install, The sound is really decent. Clear and no buzz like i used to get. I know carpet would make it look better but since the amp might not stay there long, I don't feel like doing it. I use Solidworks for my 3D CAD drawings.

Now i feel like i need a subwoofer, The sound i get is clear and loud, but no bass presence, and if i try to cheat and turn up the bass on the headunit, it sounds like crap. I might be interested in a powered sub box since they are quite compact easy to plug ans unplug a quick plug for power would be nice too, don't want to use too much cargo space. Don't know what size power i need tho, too much choices to look at.

So, went ahead and bought a used alpine 8 inch type R subwoofer with a ported box. Then searched for a matching amplifier and found a cheap sub and amplifier combo, a alpine MRP M500 amp and a 12 inch alpine type R sub in a sealed box. Intalled the amp and tried both subs (one at a time). The 8 inch is pumping quite a lot of bass for the size of it, but the 12 is definitively more powerful (might be too much actually) , and takes more place. Hard to decide. Anyways, here are pics of them.

Previous setup didn't last long, ditched the old crappy amplifier and bought myself a MRP-F300. Built a new rack to hold both amps and the lc6i. Also decided to keep the 12 inch subwoofer.
Pretty happy of the sound and the look too. Looks clean (still need to zip tie few wires) and still can drop down the seat, if i need to put something long in the car.
Would be happy to hear your thoughts !

Looks good man. How do you have the amp rack attached to the back of the seat. I'm interested in seeing how everything is held in place.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on December 12, 2015, 06:03:34 PM
It actually is in two parts, the top layer and sides are fixed together then fixed to the base. The base itself is fixed to the back of the seat, with metal screws. What you may see is there are holes on the plate where the amps are mounted that makes possible to screw the bottom layer. Here is the 3D cad of it.

Gotcha. So the base of it is secured into the back of the seat with metal screws? It's been a while since I've messed around with the back of the rear seat. I figured you would have a better perspective with your experience. Thanks for your help. I really dig your idea of attaching your amps this way. I may end up borrowing your idea and expanding on it for my set up.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on December 13, 2015, 12:18:26 PM
Yeah sure don't mind if you do! The back of the seat has a metal backing similar to metal sidings, like a waved shape, it's pretty solid, well enough to hold a amp rack.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on December 14, 2015, 12:31:57 AM
My concern is the weight of my amps.  They are larger and heavier, plus I have 3 amps.  I think that I may end up designing an amp rack that mounts to the back seat and have it machined out of aluminum.  It may be better to use nutserts/rivnuts in the metal instead of sheet metal screws.  What type of fasteners are you using with yours?  Have you had a chance to weigh everything before mounting it to the seat?

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: Pascal on December 14, 2015, 09:48:50 PM
It is hold in place by 6 metal screws, I don't exactly know the weight, main like 15-20 pounds. Having inserts would be hard to put since there are not really any acces between the metal backing and the seat itself. I do no recommend milling the rack in aluminium, it's gonna be heavy and really expensive. If you want to save weight, you should go with sheet metal aluminum, with some bends are the right place you'll have a clean and solid rack, that dissipates heat too.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on December 15, 2015, 12:06:28 AM
I figured the threaded inserts would take care of that for mounting.  They are more secure than metal screws.  I don't mind the expense of the rack.  I'm sure some thinner aluminum would be easy to cut out with a water jet or plasma table.  I actually have a friend that has a cnc plasma cutting table that can cut out the pieces for me.  If designed properly, it would weigh less and be stronger than MDF.  Heat dissipation will not be an issue for these amps at all.  They all have "Ported Tunnel Forced Air Cooling".  :D

Post by: Pascal on December 15, 2015, 08:42:08 AM
Yeah forgot about Rivet nuts, you could use those, You need to crimp them with a special tool but you would have a strong mount with this.

Title: Re: [Profile] Pascal
Post by: timot_one on December 15, 2015, 09:53:24 AM
I use the hell out of threaded inserts. I have the tool, so I'm good on that. I would just prefer a stronger mount that can support the weight of my amps.

Thanks for all the help man. I'm definitely digging your set up and install. It turned out really nice. I bet it will look amazing when you cover the MDF with carpet.
