Title: How To: Lightweight Crank Pulley Post by: MyNameIsThien on February 12, 2012, 11:11:25 PM Here is a DIY on how to install a crank pulley on our Accords. I used my buddy's TL for this, but its the same configuration as our Accords. Now lets begin.
Tools: 14mm wrench or a serptine belt tool. 19mm deep impact socket breaker bar (a fairly long one) flat head screwdriver or honda clip puller tool floor jack jack stand (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d199/7thGenVillian/WP_000003.jpg) (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d199/7thGenVillian/WP_000004.jpg) Step 1: Make sure your car is in park (automatic) or neutral (manual) with the e-brake applied. Open hood and locate your belt tensioner. (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d199/7thGenVillian/WP_000007-1.jpg) Step 2: Using a 14mm wrench or a serpentine belt tool, push the wrench or tool towards the back of the car to relieve tension from the belt. (if the 14mm wrench is too short, add another wrench preferably bigger to add leverage) Remove the belt aside unless you are adding an underdrive, then you will need to replace the belt. (if replacing the belt, remember the belt routing diagram) (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d199/7thGenVillian/WP_000014.jpg) Step 3: Proceed to jack up the right side and apply a jack stand to remove the wheel. Remove the wheel. (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d199/7thGenVillian/WP_000008.jpg) Step 4: Locate the 2 clips holding the crank pulley cover. The second clip is behind the frame. If you were to look from the bottem, you would see it. Remove both clips and move aside. Using a breaker bar and 19mm impact socket, place the socket and breaker bar on bolt and wedge between the control arm and tie rod. You will be using the starter to break loose the bolt. This may take a few tries to get the bolt loose. (do not try to start your car but just giving it a couple of bumps so that starter partially turns over). After you have gotten the bolt loose, remove the bolt and pulley. (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d199/7thGenVillian/WP_000019.jpg) Step 7: Install the pulley on. Make sure you line up the notch on the pulley to the notch on motor. (http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d199/7thGenVillian/WP_000022.jpg) Step 8: Hand start the bolt and then bolt it down. Place your belt back on and put everything back on. You have successfully installed your crank pulley. It is best to have a fully charged battery. If you have a fairly weak battery, it won't work.
