Title: [Product Review] Mothers Back-to-black
Post by: clapton924 on September 28, 2009, 03:51:44 PM
I picked this up a while ago to improve the look of the black trim on my car.

I find this product works pretty well. I use it on any black trim, around my mirrors and it also works on the metal parts of your windshield wipers.  You need to apply several coats for the best finish. My only complaint with the product is that the "fresh wet" look only lasts for a few weeks.  I'd give this product a rating of 8/10.

Here is an idea of before and after 1 coat on my mirror trim.

Final result after several coats

I'm actually not a big fan of this stuff. It didn't work well for me at all.

I went and bought some a few hours ago and I must say it works pretty well. It may be because I have super faded black stuff, but regardless it was a huge improvement. I am uploading pics currently.

This is after one coat. I applied it to the door plastic/vinyl, mirror area, and windshield wipers.

I can also say that this is a GREAT product.  It's restored my sun faded black trim back to black! I highly recommend it. Pictures to come!

I've been wanting to grab some of this for a while but now that I never realized the results could be that good. I may have to wait though. I've been grabbing a lot of detailing supplies lately and Ash gives me attitude, until she sees the results. LOL!!!

I like what it does, but it has never lasted me more than a few days.

I think it really depends on how you apply it.  My application has lasted me since I put it on a couple months ago.  And I don't garage my car...

How did you apply it?

Just like the bottle says. I believe it said to put a good amount on, let it sit for 5ish minutes, then wipe off the excess with a dry cloth. It may be lasting longer than other applications because I wash my car weekly. Not sure if you guys do that or not...

I prefer to use Aerospace 303 on these areas I found that this stuff doesn't last very long.

How long was it lasting you?

I found with the back to black that It would wash away every time the car got wet. Living in NE this is quite often. It's a decent product, and does provide a nice look while it last (In my case 2 -3 days). Aerospace 303 usually last about 5, and then can be reapplied. To be fair the only place I'm using back to black is on the triangular trim piece around, and the cowel area under the wipers. I love 303 because I use it all over place Dash, Seats everywhere. In my opinion the products are probably comparable but, 303 can be used in more areas.

If the black trim you are having issues with is severely faded I would suggest

Black WOW (http://www.detailedimage.com/Black-WOW-M41/Black-WOW-P370/4-oz-S1/)

or

Trim-Restorer (http://www.detailedimage.com/Poorboys-World-M1/Trim-Restorer-P35/16-oz-S1/)

I have this stuff, use on the my black rocker panel because I have an lx, like others stated it only last for a couple days them goes back to looking like crap, I have better experience using meguiars natural shine protectant. It's for the interior I know but works just as we'll for the black trim in the outside too. At least it does for my side panels.
