Title: Camera/Photography Questions
Post by: wtcii on September 27, 2009, 08:42:07 PM
I bought a used Canon 20D body that came with a brand new lens. I am a huge photography noob, and have a question. Some of the pictures I have taken have a mark on them. It is on the same place every time. I have cleaned the lens but it is there. It doesn't always show. I dont know what it wrong and I was hoping one of you all could tell me. Here is a picture that it is pretty visible in. Thanks!

have you tried cleaning the sensor?

Yeah, that's definitely sensor dust, and not the only one I see.  You will see this most when you use a small f/stop like f/8-f/22.  Go get yourself a Gioto rocket blower or something equivalent that's made specifically to clean DSLR sensors.  Take the lens off, turn on the camera, set it to sensor clean mode and give the chamber a good cleaning with the blower.  Make sure you point the front of the camera body towards the ground so that you allow the dust to fall off the sensor as you're cleaning it.

Ok, thanks! I will buy the sensor cleaner and try it.

Just to make sure, this (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/388983-REG/Giottos_AA1920_Rocket_Air_Blower_.html) is what your talking about, right?

looks like sensor. if it was on lens you would deff see it.
just make sure u do it in dust free place. see if your camera has incamera sensor cleaning function before you try to do it. sometimes it helps.
my dad got arctic butterfly and it works good. we also have that rocket looking thing. just whatever you do DO NOT USE COMPTRESSED AIR TO BLOW ON SENSOR

Okay I knowing I'm bumping an old thread but I figure its better than making a new one to ask similar questions. I recently acquired a Canon T1I and I feel like the lens that came with it 18-55mm doesn't offer enough zoom for my liking. I feel like my Nikon point and shoot offered a much greater zoom albeit the pictures don’t compare at all. I’ve shot a couple of hundred photos with the camera over the last couple of days, and they come out pretty nice but, I want to purchase another lens to gain additional zoom for when I’m at sporting events or shooting shots of animals from a distance. I don’t want to spend a lot of money because I’m a novice and will probably lose interest like I do with everything else. I’m just staring out so any advice would be awesome?

you need a 55-200mm lens or even 300mm if you can get a good price. I can any EOS type lens will fit your camera's bracket though. I can check my work discount for prices if you're interested but they are pricey, no way to get around that really unless you can find it used.

Well what about the non Canon stuff. Tameron or sigma? I don't know what do the prices look like?

Oops I meant EF-S mount type. Yes we do carry the Tamron and Sigma versions also, but anything with stabilization is not cheap... Let me get some quotes and PM them to you. Keep in mind I'm in Canada so you might get better prices in the US even at retail lol :mad6:

Unfortunately, I've been out of the game for a while.  I'm not up on the latest lenses.  Used to be you had to spend good coin to get a nice, sharp lens.  Now even the kit lenses are producing sharp images.

Best place to read up on lenses is fredmiranda.com and dpreview.com

I buy 95% of my equipment used from fredmiranda.com

If you like buying your shit new, use pricegrabber.com to get the best price.

Still using the D40. Anything else would be a waste of money for me since I really haven't spent much time getting good with my camera yet.

I shouldn't have looked at Ryans profile, now I want a camera. What do you guys know about the Nikon D40 SLRs? I can get a bundle with everything, lens, body, software, charger, etc for $300 on egay. Recommendations?

That's what I've been using for the past few years.  It take good pictures and is a good starter camera.  I just haven't had the time or money to really invest in photography to get better at it.

I want to get into photography, always wanted to, but its expensive as is any hobby. I unfortunetly don't know that much, especially about whats a good camera. I may get this D40, as its in very good shape. It would be nice to take pics not on a cell phone. Maybe I could turn this into a side business even.

Title: Re: Camera/Photography Questions
Post by: b_beau_09 on August 13, 2013, 02:20:17 PM
The D40 is relatively outdated, and it's been replaced in the Nikon lineup..  I'm not sure as to what is actually out there as an entry level body.  There's nothing wrong with getting an older camera either, just make sure it's in decent shape, and doesn't have a shit ton of actuation's.

PM/text me if you want some more specific advice on lenses and such.

I'm resurrecting an old thread! As tempting as it is to put my tax return all to my car, (muahaha) I was thinking a nice camera would serve me well instead.

This is my current camera. It's good at collecting dust:

(http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o80/dieselphle/20150406_202523_zps3zvlvmpu.jpg) (http://s117.photobucket.com/user/dieselphle/media/20150406_202523_zps3zvlvmpu.jpg.html)

I was thinking of something like this:

(http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o80/dieselphle/20150406_174131_zpsyiztakbo_edit_1428366442965_zpsn9lvl1f7.jpg) (http://s117.photobucket.com/user/dieselphle/media/20150406_174131_zpsyiztakbo_edit_1428366442965_zpsn9lvl1f7.jpg.html)

I would take it with me to meets, trips etc. We do a lot of beach/kayaking in the summer. Any thoughts?  I'm still comparing brands

I don't know a whole lot about Canons but I've heard they are great. I can't tell by the picture, is that a T3i or a T5i? I shoot with a Nikon and I love it. When I was comparing the two I noticed that Nikon's were a little bit cheaper and a little easier to learn with. That being said, I know a lot of people swear by Canon.

Title: Re:

It's a T5i :) I have to hold it and see how easy it is to use. There's a Camera shop in Manchvegas,  i'll have to pick some brains! What Nikon do you have?

Ok cool. I'm pretty sure the T5i is comparable to the Nikon D5xxx series (I think the D5500 is the newest one). I have a D3200 which is basically the base model DSLR from Nikon. The only difference between the D3xxx series and the D5xxx series is the D5xxx series has better video abilities. Now that I'm learning more and getting more into photography I'm planning on upgrading to the Nikon D7100 which is their "enthusiast" level camera. Honestly, go there and play around with all of the cameras and pick which ever feels better to you. The two brand's comparable models should be in the same price ranges. Also, check out BHPhotovideo.com I buy a lot of gear from them and their prices are usually the lowest around.

Can I get a camera without video recording capabilities?

Title: Re: Camera/Photography Questions
Post by: B.R.03EX on April 07, 2015, 10:31:58 PM
They all do it now I'm pretty sure. Older models don't have video but the image sensors wont be as good as the new cameras.

Title: Re: Camera/Photography Questions
Post by: thisaznboi88 on April 07, 2015, 11:39:43 PM
I have a T4i. Its basically a T5i without the STM lens. The STM lens are really quiet if you want to do 1080p recording.

t6i is where it is at right now. Brand new processor and 6mp more.

I got a canon because the lens go on sale a lot. I would have gone broke buying lens.

Well I don't want to sacrifice picture quality, I just don't see me recording videos that often. I saw how expensive some of those lenses are. #goodlord Hubby works at Target so he's going to let me know when there's a package on sale.

Hahaha 14k. . JC! That would go to my car first if I had it hahaha! Do you think there will be a huge difference between the t5i and the t6i?  The T5i will be on sale when the new one comes out but if there's no big difference then I'll get the older one.

get the t5i or maybe a t4i. They are both really good camera. I also think the nikons are also good and they have way more complex feature, but I like how simple the Canon is.

I pulled the trigger on the Rebel T5i!! Starting out with a 18-55 lens. Although the camera I played with at best buy had the 18-135 lens. I figured since I don't know what I'm doing I can work my way up :) should be here Sat or Monday.
