Title: Heat Shield Opinions.... Post by: NWINNIE34 on May 12, 2009, 02:30:42 PM One of my good friends owns a 99 passat and is part of audizine and passat world... and they rant and rave about using heatshields all over their engine bay
i know they are running turbos hence the engine bay temp is pretty high... but would we benefit at all by using one? he has a ton of left over materials that he used to construct his and i thought about making one here is a photo of where i might try to make one... i notice my fujita CAI pipe as well as OBX oil catch can gets DAMN DAMN hot while driving.... you think the benefits are worth the troubles? thanks for the input photo of where i would make one (http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr89/winndogg34/1234.jpg) Title: Re: Heat Shield Opinions.... Post by: timot_one on May 12, 2009, 02:56:29 PM This is just my opinion, but it's not worth the effort for a n/a motor with a couple of bolt ons. Maybe if you were running a highly modified motor with a turbo or something, then I'd say it may be worth it. I wouldn't waste my time on something like that though.

I tried to attach the photo of his heat shield but photobucket is being a BITCH... his looks good and helps his situation out tremendously.... Title: Re: Heat Shield Opinions.... Post by: Skippy on May 12, 2009, 03:41:19 PM Heat shielding is already available. I have seen it before with certain intake kits that section off an SRI from the rest of the engine bay. It does help out. It will be slightly effective while driving, and it would be more effective if you make a duct for fresh cold air to get to the filter without coming through the body first. Duct work makes it easier to get cooler air straight to the intake.

i have the 03-04 sedan bumper so i dont have the 2 openings for the fogs... just the one middle big opening i could try to run some 4" or 6" vent pipe from the bumper opening up into the engine bay just to get a little more flow gonna see what parts my buddy has laying around |
