My body shop used the OEM honda paint with proper prep and priming of course. Abailey4 (Derrick) has also painted his grille and his body shop did a nice job color matching it to the body color. I had my grille painted from a guy from another forum so I will ask him what he used. Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: Mike on April 29, 2009, 10:14:13 PM I have a silver grill coming in the mail from skizot
Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: Icebox on April 30, 2009, 07:15:54 AM im not interested in color matching but instead want it to be black to go with all of the other black on the front end. fog lights, lower grill, soon to be blackhoused headlights, etc.
Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: dizzle on April 30, 2009, 11:05:00 AM i painted mine with krylon fusion paint. its black and i did a little custom paint with my emblems.

Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: Mike on April 30, 2009, 12:23:21 PM You would be better suited to remove the emblem.
Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: dizzle on April 30, 2009, 12:25:38 PM i masked the emblem which didnt take too long. i masked it 2 different times; one for the H and another for the black gaps if that made sense. i also used a layer of clear coat. no damage so far from what i can see. its up to you if you want to use a clear coat or not. theres a rare chance a pebble could hit the grill.
Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: Abailey4 on April 30, 2009, 12:34:38 PM ^ I wish I could say that cuz I've had a few jump up and smack the grill. Mine has a couple chip spots on the inside of the H emblem from those rare pebbles. But then again just about every road in northern VA has construction goin on.
Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: Icebox on April 30, 2009, 12:57:45 PM thanks!
Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: dizzle on April 30, 2009, 01:14:16 PM i would take derricks thought into consideration. if your going to find a lot of pebbles in the road and you follow close to someone, a pebble could hit. id suggest using about 3-4 light coats of what you want to use. then maybe 2-3 of light clear coats.
when i did mine, the clear coat kinda brightened up my grill by 1 shade. just a little side note. Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: Icebox on April 30, 2009, 01:19:05 PM thanks, and did you do any prep work to the plastic or just spray away?
Title: Re: Painted Grill Post by: dizzle on April 30, 2009, 11:21:31 PM i cleaned it with rubbing alcohol for sure. i dont remember if i scuffed it up a little bit. but do clean it up regardless of any paint project. dont want any blemishes or anything sticking out
