I need your input on these shots.  These are my practice shots for my Adv. Photo Class final project.  When I shoot these with film I will be able to use more of my wide-angle.  My hope is to be able to include more of the driver in the finals.  My question right now is what do you like/dislike about these shots.  Do you prefer the interior lit or unlit or does it depend on the picture?  Let me have it!

I think you should leave the interior lit, adds more detail to the photo. and i love the lighting on the dash on 8 :D. Also I think the photos look better when the dash is in exactly the middle of the pic...

I would prefer unlit, like the ones with the pictures from 1-3. definetly captured the sense that the picture shows some night time cruising from the inside of the car, from a passengers view.

Oh I was talking about the dash before, as for the interior, I do like when it is unlit and i think it flows better with the rest of the images and do provide that night time cruising sense as Ryan stated.

I like 2 and 4 the most.

unlit is the best. Also, it looks better when the rear view mirror has something going on as well (like in #4)...in the other ones there is all this stuff going on outside the windshield but then you see the rearview mirror and it is just a random still.

Also, Clean the windshield with Stoner's or some equivalent windshield cleaner that has alcohol in it to evaporate. in a couple of the pictures I can see the outline of where the windshield wipers go across.

I like #4 the best. It has the most motion and the best point of view IMO. I like the lighting of the gauges and the subtle appearance of the driver's arm. Also the rear-view mirror action like Sam pointed out. You could probably heal out the reflection of the hazard light button though. I didn't particularly like the ones with the flash/interior lights, but I did really like #10 where Gen's turning, with the subtle lighting of the CD holder cubby.

It has been said before and I'll say it again. These belong in a Honda brochure!!!

Number 2 is my pick of them all because of the turn that is coming up in that picture... It just looks fast!!!!

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments.  I will definitely keep these in mind when I shoot these on film for my project.  Oh, and no worries, that windshield will be spotless! LOL

i think 1 and 4 are your strongest shots here, the light really seems to flow smoothly.  and unlit interior for sure.  adds a better contrast between the bright lights from the outside.  i was going to say if you could angle the rear view mirror so that you can see the drivers eyes that may bring another aspect to the shot, maybe have a small light(reading light or something) that only hits their face so the eyes light up on the rear view.

what kind of film camera are you going to be using? obviously a canon right? lol.

#1 is my fav. because i like how the line in the road is clear and the only thing outside the car that is clear and defined
my suggestions:
- no interior lighting/flash (except dash lights)
- no driver shots
- no other cars on the road (just the lights)
- having the streak lights in the rearview mirror looked cool
- crystal clear dash focus
- make sure speedo/tach are centered in the wheel form your POV but also shot to be centered on dash

They need more VTAK, yo!  You've captured the onset of VTAK...the point at which light begins to blur....You need to be shooting while in the middle of VTAK...when the time space continuum tears slightly to allow the vehicle access to faster than light velocity.

I like 4, 6, and 8 the most.  The interior looks fine, no additional light needed...try to replicate the interior light from picture 1.  I really can't offer you much advice because I'm a photography n00b and I don't know your setups limitations and what can really be done about anything that you may see that's wrong with the shots...all I can say is keep taking great pics and maybe one day we can get you hired by honda :)

That is amazing Milan!  What did you do, bolt the camera to the car?  Amazing!

Anyway, I agree with everyone on board.  Keep it unlit; it looks more natural. :)

nice photos. id say keep the brightness of the dash medium lit, some of them were too bright that it overpowered the details of the numbers and gauges. also im not sure if thats the ONLY angle you want to shoot from, might be more interesting ones from a different angle. just my 2 cents since im in a photography class also and i have to learn how to critique photos.

i like number 4 in the sense that the outside has more of a linear blur as opposed to the others where they are rigid. but i do understand roads can be bumpy and with a long shutter speed, nothing you can really do.

Yep, a Canon 1V.  Canon's last 35mm pro camera that I bought used 2 years ago for about 75% off lol.


I had the camera on a tripod with me sitting in the back seat. I moved the passenger seat forward a little and reclined it back to get it out of the shot and allow room for the tripod feet.  It wasn't as stable as some of these pictures make it seem.
