Title: tinted tails Post by: rjp6262 on April 15, 2009, 06:47:47 PM i tinted my tail lights myself (don't get the pre-cut tint kits...major pain in the ass!). but they aren't as dark as i want them to be unfortunately so i may have to get some darker tint for them. anyway here are the pictures! don't hate on the rough edges...im waiting for them to sit on the lights for a few days till i trim around the lights better.

Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: Anonymous on April 15, 2009, 07:03:46 PM looks good.
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: Mike on April 15, 2009, 07:07:56 PM I think they look very good
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: ROLO on April 15, 2009, 07:09:04 PM Looks real nice.. !
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: Milan on April 15, 2009, 07:49:30 PM Don't go any darker. That's just asking for attention from the cops and it's not safe. When I see people with totally blacked-out tails, when they're braking, the light output is less then when regular tails are just plain on.
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: Paulius005 on April 15, 2009, 09:27:43 PM I agree with Milan. If you are going to redo them, paint them. That way you can choose how dark you want them by wet sanding more off if you want.
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: dizzle on April 15, 2009, 09:38:35 PM painting them would be a good choice to see how dark you want them. its hard to tell how dark you are % wise but light sprays every time would be a good way to start.
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: cna on April 15, 2009, 09:58:17 PM they look good
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: rjp6262 on April 15, 2009, 10:38:13 PM thanks guys! yeah im probably not going to go darker, hopefully it'll turn a little darker from the lights potentially baking it, or the sun baking them. im still trying to see what happens with the company though because their pictures make it look like it's black...so hopefully it'll get me something cool.
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: cna on April 15, 2009, 10:58:30 PM you could always spray tint them with nightshade maybe it will give you the shade you looking for
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: ibcnunv on April 16, 2009, 08:42:40 AM Yeah man those came out great... That was the shade I wanted on mines because I think mines are way too dark...
Look at mines; (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95/ibcnunv/ECM/DSC_1643.jpg) (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95/ibcnunv/ECM/DSC_1654.jpg) Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: unclejud49348 on April 16, 2009, 10:14:57 AM I think they look good right now, but don't go any darker. I love tinted tails on our dark cars.
How long did it take you to tint them? Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: k24low20z on April 16, 2009, 11:30:12 AM looks good..if anyone need film i have a lot for sale, i can do $8 a square foot...it can be used for many diff parts of the car, i was thinking on smoking out my tsx blinkers on my mirrors but im not sure how it would look..
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: rjp6262 on April 16, 2009, 10:12:07 PM thanks guys!
in all it took me maybe an hour and a half to do this. just the tinting, not involving removing the tail lights from the car. but that may have been an unnecessary step. Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: Skippy on April 16, 2009, 10:56:36 PM Looks good meng. Get it a few shades darker and they'll look really pretty.
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: rjp6262 on April 16, 2009, 11:35:36 PM to make it darker...should i just get some regular window tint film?
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: k24low20z on April 17, 2009, 12:50:33 AM Quote from: "rjp6262" to make it darker...should i just get some regular window tint film? no window film will not work for you...i can sell you the square foot for 8 bucks each..you have to do another shade on top of the one you allready have, with three feet you have more than enough..you can also use the film to tint your side reflectors in your head lights with the film...so for around $24 + $5 shipping you can put it darker. lmk i have the film on hand ready to ship.. Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: Blackhawk on April 17, 2009, 10:03:56 AM I like how it's a subtle tint. It shouldn't block too much light output yet still looks sexy. Good job meng! :)
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on April 17, 2009, 10:47:32 AM dont like it. looks like its foggy. what percentage? 35 or what

Quote from: "Blackhawk" I like how it's a subtle tint. It shouldn't block too much light output yet still looks sexy. Good job meng! :) thanks JT! it doesn't block much light at all. it's just i was going for a darker tint. but i may leave it like this. Quote from: "AV6NHBP6SPD" dont like it. looks like its foggy. what percentage? 35 or what ummm i don't know what percentage it is to be honest. but i think it's a lighter tint than the stuff i bought from you a few months back. i'll get a new pic of two after i wash it today. maybe that'll help clear them up. Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on April 17, 2009, 03:08:05 PM oh ok. well maybe if you cut out reverse light to bring contrast of tint up a little since there will be lighter part on tail light to compare it to
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: Abailey4 on April 17, 2009, 03:27:22 PM I wouldn't go too much darker RJ or you'll be yanking them off in no time due to a repair order courtesy of MD state troopers.
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on April 17, 2009, 03:47:16 PM that's why i recommended to remote part thats covering clear part. then it would look more oem since some cars have pretty dark red tails and clear backup lights, think about it
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: b_beau_09 on April 17, 2009, 04:08:23 PM ^i was thinking about doing that myself, but if you look at our tails, they have red lines through the clear reverse light. i think if that's left it would clash pretty bad with the rest.. but try it, there's no harm in testing out something as simple as tinted tails. thats why i was going to do it after a few other things soon.
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: rich on April 17, 2009, 05:44:53 PM you can't get it darker than my tails haha!
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: rjp6262 on April 19, 2009, 10:52:49 AM rich i don't think i would be able to see any light coming out of my tail lights if they were as dark as yours lol.
i don't think i'll be cutting out the reverse section is help make the rest seem darker. it seems to me that it's gotten slightly darker over the week so im happy with it now. nothing too dark but not as light anymore. Derrick: lol dude with my tint film over my tail lights and the new film on my windows, now im freaking out every time i drive most places. especially to school since i drive past a pretty major police station in my area. Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: b_beau_09 on April 19, 2009, 11:15:46 AM ^rj you live in MD right? a cop can't legally pull you over for tint anymore. it's a secondary offense here! sooo as long as you follow all the other rules of the road, you'll be fine.. unless a cop wants to be a jackass.. haha
Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: rich on April 19, 2009, 12:07:44 PM ive been in front of so many cops and they never really do anything. i guess having a PBA license plate helps!

However I could be wrong cuz VA and MD differ. Title: Re: tinted tails Post by: rjp6262 on April 19, 2009, 08:50:32 PM yeah im in MD. i know it's a secondary offense for the tint, and the tails i believe are illegal. but they aren't that dark so who knows what'll happen to me. it's just if i get pulled over and my tint has to come off, then it'll probably stay off. money is real tight right now so nothing is happening that's expensive.
