My 7424 is still sitting in the box unused. I'm waiting for a nice day to get out and use it on a few cars.
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: RTexasF on March 18, 2009, 06:44:20 PM No one, at this point, has any idea if this machine is a killer or a flop. It's just too new.
Sorry you're still dealing with the weather.....It's 80+ here today and the A/C is on. Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: timot_one on March 18, 2009, 10:33:06 PM Hmmmm. Maybe I should look into moving to TX? I really need to update my resume and start putting money away to move. Anyway, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for reviews when people start using this. Until then, I'll stick with what I know works.

Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: suleman_manji on March 20, 2009, 11:35:21 PM Yes Tim, move to Texas. Just not Houston... it's too damn muggy (well it feels nice right now but in a few weeks it's going to start getting huuuuuumid)
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: timot_one on March 21, 2009, 12:17:00 AM I'd move wherever I can find a job that I won't hate.

Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: rocketstarter on March 22, 2009, 02:06:01 AM haha yeah, It's bigger then some countries
I'll be in San Antonio for basic about 2 months and then another 4 or so for AIT Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: skizot on March 22, 2009, 09:09:10 AM I have this same polisher and will tell you that it is awesome! No complaints on my end at all. It takes the hard work, right out of any serious buffing job. I have used this to re-polish and entire car that was wet sanded and it came out perfect. It is not a professional level model like you would find at a local body shop, but for the do-it yourself kind of projects, you can't go wrong.

I'm originally from SA. I hope you don't go in the summer, you'll learn how to pass out in formation. Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: rocketstarter on March 22, 2009, 07:50:35 PM ...damn. I'm leaving July 7th. I'll take it you're speaking from experience =/
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: RTexasF on March 22, 2009, 08:40:54 PM I lived in Bama for 10 years and have been in Atlanta in the summer. You'll deal with it but find it tough. Good for you for joining and protecting all of us, I'm a Vet so I appreciate all that serve. I feel ALL should serve so I especially thank those that volunteer. We owe you.
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: rocketstarter on March 22, 2009, 09:44:11 PM It's the least I can do for being accapted into this country. I feel like I have to repay a debt for the opportunities I've been given. I've lived in Germany, Poland, France, and Luxembourg and I can appreciate the chance I've been given. Although some things in America canbe deceptive if you don't do yoru research
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: rjp6262 on March 26, 2009, 11:25:09 AM how hard is it to use one of these? we have one(not this one...some other kind ill try and see what it is) and im tempted to try it out.
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: RTexasF on March 26, 2009, 02:04:48 PM Don't know for sure because it's not even available yet. Judging by other Porter cable products it should be very simple to operate.
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: Abailey4 on March 26, 2009, 03:23:14 PM I think RJ might be just talkin about buffers in general as far as how hard it is to work.
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: InFuMoUs on March 26, 2009, 07:34:21 PM I just purchased a bunch of Poorboy products and I'm looking to get a Porter Cable, but can't decide on what size pads to use. I read somewhere that you better results using smaller pads like 4 or 5.5", but I see alot of starter packages that come with 6.5" pads. Would I be fine with the starter package that come with the 6.5" pads or should I just customize the package and get the PC and smaller pads separately?
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: RTexasF on March 27, 2009, 07:34:01 PM You will get better results with the smaller pads & backing plate. 5.5" will be better than the larger pads overall.
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: InFuMoUs on March 29, 2009, 05:43:22 PM Thanks alot Rick. I appreciate ya input.
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: RTexasF on April 17, 2009, 02:44:02 PM Did you get the PC and pads yet?
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: InFuMoUs on April 19, 2009, 04:48:50 PM Yes sir. I got the PC with the 5.5" foam pad kit from Detail City. The 5.5" pads were just right just like you recommended...not too big and not too small. I got a chance to use it over the weekend, but since the color of my car is light, it was kinda difficult to tell if all the swirls I had were removed. I did notice the glossy shine left behind when everything was all said and done. I still need to practice with it a lil more, but I'm glad I got it thanks to you.
Title: Re: New Porter Cable Buffer/Polisher Post by: Abailey4 on April 19, 2009, 05:08:06 PM I wish I had a beater car that I'd be able to practice on. I've seen way too many bad buff jobs and dont want to be responsible for one. Steve was this the first time you've ever used one?

I'm use to applying everything by hand, but noticed getting better results using the buffer. I don't think you can do any type of damage like that with this buffer. With the rotary, that's a different story. You should see my pops van. You can see hologram trails from 15 feet away lol. If you're talking about using a PC your fears are unfounded, it's idiot proof and I'm living proof of that! There are scads of videos online to help. Many people work it too fast when they first start and are disappointed in the results. Take on a small area at a time, go slow, and you'll be amazed how easy it is. |
