Title: Rear bumper/exhaust inquiry
Post by: Nit3h4wk C0uP3 on June 13, 2013, 02:10:07 PM

Came across this pic in my travels. Is the area around the exhaust a custom job? Or is it a different bumper? I apologize if this is in the wrong place.

IIRC, that's either paint or plastidip. Hard to tell if it's the car I'm thinking of from my phone.

Really? Darn, that wouldn't really work on a black car.

Not at all.

So how does one achieve this, or a reasonable facsimile?  I could cut the bumper correct?

Edit: What's the technical name for the lower part of the bumper surrounding the exhaust in this pic? I like this a whole lot better...

that would be a rear diffuser.

Sometimes it's referred to as a rear valence. Don't mean to make it difficult. You could also look at the 06-07 coupe rear lip and it has a similar look to it.

Thanks Z! I've read about the 06-07 coupe rear lip. It's short and needs some modifications right? I have some research to do. I love research :)

I did this on my old coupe. I did mine with plastidip. It probably looked cheap and stupid but I liked it at the time.

Here is the only picture I could find. There is a very faint body line on bottom of the bumper that I followed when I painted it.

I can help with this! I have on 06-07 rear lip. It actually fits pretty well. It's not short, it just has some gaps around the corners. With a little bit of heat from a heat gun and some strong double sided tape you can get it to look just about perfect.

I haven't taken a heat gun to it yet. From a distance it's hard to tell the gap is there.

Now that I'm seeing the first pic on the computer I can see the plasti dip...Thanks for the pic!! I just don't like the rear hfp lip for the 03. Call me crazy lol. Been looking for an alternative in between projects. It's nice to know I have a few options. :) 06-07 Lip looks pretty good! I'll entertain that
