Title: Lets see those bicycles
Post by: hondaguy214 on January 03, 2013, 09:53:26 PM
Was wondering who in here rides and what do you ride? Mountain and or road.

I have been mountain biking since 2009. I have a 2010 specialized hard rock disc. It's far from stock and has suited my needs for a long time.

I am jealous... those things are BAD ASS! Lol

Side note:  just remembered a friend of mine actually has a Honda mountain bike that he got on craigslist.  I guess it was some special give away they were having for buying a ridgeline.  But the guy who got it didnt like how it looked so he painted over all the honda decals and made it a camo mountain bike...

You should ride in the snow Bobby!

Okay, here's my set up. I have a 2011 Cannondale Synapse 6 Tiagra. Obviously it has all Shimano Tiagra gear and 105 pedals with some inexpensive Sidi's.

Riding in the snow?  I've been too damn busy with other shit to get out and ride.  Today was the perfect day for it too, but instead I wasted the day away.

Just got the info for Five Boros of NY, First come first serve.  They upped the "donation" to $86 this year,  which I think is beat but its whatever.  My group is lookin like theyll be there again so ill prolly go.  Last year was awesome and it really is a great way to see the city.

I have a Kryptonite U-Lock that I used when I lived in Boston.

Ken, the bikes are here with us in SC right now.

I want to build a mountain bike. I'm on the fence of whether I should get a fixed gear bike next or a mountain bike.

Title: Re: Lets see those bicycles

Fixed gear is ok. I like gears.

So I've been thinking about getting a road bike for a while now.  It's been a long time since I've owned a bike of any sort, but I want to add cycling as part of my workout.

Is there anything I should look for? and anything I definitely do not need right away?

Title: Re: Lets see those bicycles
Post by: hondaguy214 on May 14, 2013, 10:22:54 PM
You don't need carbon. Aluminum is super light. Just make sure you get properly sized go to more than one place to get sized. Super important with road bikes from what I hear. Specialized cannondale felt trek. Go with a name brand. Not much to look out for with gearing and brakes because they all work about the same and if your not a weight weenie you can save a lot of money. Get some padded riding shorts your tante will thank me later when you can sit on the toilet after a long ride.

Went for a 30 mile ride today.  It kicked my ass.  On the last 10 miles of the ride, I noticed that my left pedal had a bit of a wobble, and there was noise coming from my crank.  I finally discovered at the end of my ride that my crank arm was loose, causing the wobble.  The additional play in the crank was causing the noise.  I got it all tightened up now, but that was weird.

Def a bad route to take, the northern stretch was at the base of the mountains and was just up and down for miles.  I'm gonna have to look around and see what else I can find.

My 2014 specialized stumpjumper comp 29... First brand brand new bike. Got it 3 weeks ago and I have 53 miles on it so far and I am loving it. Ordered some shimano slx brakes that will be here Monday. This is my third love other than my child and fiancé lol..

Title: Re: Lets see those bicycles

Wow , I bet the ride is smoooooth! I use my bike for dirt jumping, trails and downhill. After a day doing downhill, my body is pretty much all shook up. This is probably the kind of bike that could do all of this easier. I bought mine brand new too when i was in high school and i still love it! Don't think of getting rid of it

Had a good day today... even tho I lost a contact halfway thru the ride.

We all pretty much agreed that this was the last year were doing it.  They keep raising the price and having the same problems and dumb restrictions.  Its just lost its enjoyment.

Also, pissed because I was tracking the ride using my phone, we stopped for a breakable and I paused the tracker... never turned it back on.  So I only got to track 32 miles... missed around 15 miles.

Finally got back on the bike today and did my normal 12, felt alright for not doing anything for 3 weeks. Haha.

Ive been using the Strava app to record my rides and I'm liking it so far.  Its almost like a social networking tool for riders, you can find friends and Follow them (in the premium version it even shows you live feed of where they are so you can meet up/stalk them, but they want waaaaay too much for premium).

Another cool feature is that it puts your times up against other riders that have ridden the same section.  Im King of the Mountain at Dickinson Park!  I have the top time by over a minute.  Cool stuff.
