Title: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on October 22, 2012, 08:43:23 PM Post outdoor discussions here such as camping, fishing, hunting, anything outdoor related and gear for said outdoorsy things.
So I am looking at assembling an EDC(everyday carry) bag. It will house, numerous things I use throughout the day and some things it is just good to keep on hand, First aid, Pens, Fixed blade knife, folding knife, notepad, etc. The only thing I cannot decide on is the bag itself. I am thinking about a Maxpedition Remora bag, it is small and will hold everything effectively. On the other hand, I could go with a blackhawk or Camelbak bag that will do the same(only larger and more like a backpack) but will also carry the water I drink every day(1 gallon) Which would yall go with and why? Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: timot_one on October 22, 2012, 11:46:16 PM I haven't really put much thought into anything like that. I do like camelbacks though. I have one for when I ride, and it's great having the hydration available. It has almost no storage though, so I can't really comment on that part.
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: CrackerTeg on October 23, 2012, 07:51:53 AM Honestly Country, I've used the Camelbak bags and I like how they have the water bladder in them. IIRC, the Blackhawk bags have the option or can accommodate the water bladders in them. Depending which model of either you go with, they have an abundance of pouches and shit to carry a bunch of gear and oftentimes have those handy little loops to clip shit onto.
Title: Re: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: Nit3h4wk C0uP3 on October 23, 2012, 08:18:53 AM I put a Camelbak on our wedding registry, i guess it's not a common wedding gift lol we did get a tent though :) Great places to camp in Raymond NH
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on October 23, 2012, 09:22:33 AM Both the bags I mentioned have the molle loops on the outside which is a big plus. My friend is wanting me to start hiking with him. And the water would greatly come on handy then too
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: gargantula99 on October 23, 2012, 12:44:42 PM If you're looking at Blackhawk, I would get this for a duffel bag.

There's this store down the block from my office that carries a ton of bags. I've been eyeing a few. http://www.galaxyarmynavy.com/army_navy_stores_nyc_new_york.asp (http://www.galaxyarmynavy.com/army_navy_stores_nyc_new_york.asp) Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: CrackerTeg on October 23, 2012, 01:16:24 PM Both the bags I mentioned have the molle loops on the outside which is a big plus. Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: gargantula99 on October 23, 2012, 08:26:07 PM Since you're looking for something that holds water. Why not get this one?

It almost looks like the bag I want. Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on October 23, 2012, 11:49:05 PM The bladder is removable. It has it's own compartment. They also have tablets you can fill the bag and drop a tab in

It is really comfortable with a lot of weight in it. It's much more comfortable than my Kelty pack. The quality seems to be pretty good. He bought his off of Optics Planet too. Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: gargantula99 on October 24, 2012, 01:41:06 PM I like your back pack. I think I want to get it.
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on October 24, 2012, 02:03:04 PM I've never had anything from blackhawk that is less than top notch. I like optics planet because they have a lot of coupon codes floating around on the intarwebz.
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: Icebox on October 24, 2012, 02:30:48 PM i see you all are more into the tactical type gear, but as an avid outdoorsman i recommend sierra designs and kelty for the quality and value of their packs.
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: CrackerTeg on October 24, 2012, 02:47:25 PM Why do you have to hate on tactical dude? Tactical is where its at. Lots of places to put shit which means you have more shit for activities! Who doesn't like activities?
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: Icebox on October 24, 2012, 03:04:43 PM not hating on the tactical, just providing additional options, why you hating on the non-tactical? :P
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: CrackerTeg on October 24, 2012, 03:37:24 PM Its because I'm a tactical sonofabitch. That's why.
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: Icebox on October 24, 2012, 03:49:15 PM im gonna tactfully place my foot up your ass!

Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on November 08, 2012, 09:26:05 PM Poke poke... this thread has been dead...
So I was bored at work today and was looking around on the internet and stumbled upon what shall be my next EDC pocket pal. I was looking into the Leatherman PS4 Squirt on a monkey fist key chain paired with my smith and wesson M&P M.A.G.I.C assisted knife... the new gadget I found is the CRKT Zilla. It has all of the essentials in one small tool. http://www.crkt.com/Zilla-Tool-Black-Handle-Bead-Blast-Finish (http://www.crkt.com/Zilla-Tool-Black-Handle-Bead-Blast-Finish) Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: gargantula99 on November 08, 2012, 10:24:52 PM This sounds more like a tactical equipment thread than outdoor gear.
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on November 09, 2012, 08:27:19 AM Yeah I can see that. I'm looking for new tires for the Atv but didn't think anyone would know about them

Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on January 04, 2013, 09:05:06 AM Did you end up getting the zilla or zilla jr?
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: gargantula99 on January 05, 2013, 06:20:19 AM Zilla.
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on January 05, 2013, 08:57:17 AM Good, I encourage people to go with the full size. I like it better for the fact that it will accommodate any regular screw driver bit. For instance if you use a torx bit more often than a phillips you can carry the torx bit with you.
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: gargantula99 on January 05, 2013, 11:05:23 AM I totally agree which is why I chose that one. Great minds thinks alike.
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on January 05, 2013, 03:30:04 PM Haha yay logic!
Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: gargantula99 on January 06, 2013, 09:23:37 AM What you doing with that emergency lace bracelet, country?
And how do you go about re-tying it after you've used it? Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: exelr8 on January 06, 2013, 09:49:35 AM It's from survival straps. If I use it, they will replace it. To be perfectly honest, I feel balanced with it on. I've always got a watch on, so something on the other wrist makes it feel balanced. Plus if I'm out four wheeling and break my leg, I can use it as either a tourniquet or to build a stint, use it to make shelter, whole Myriad of uses
Title: Re: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: CrackerTeg on January 06, 2013, 10:55:04 AM Nelson is just a hater. I have one but I made that shit cuz I'm awesome.

Title: Re: Outdoor Gear thread Post by: gargantula99 on January 06, 2013, 12:11:22 PM I looked at them the other day, then I said to myself, if I ever used it I'm never going to relace it again. So I never bought it.
