Title: NSX is canceled
Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on March 02, 2009, 06:56:02 PM
got my modified mag today, and read that all development of nsx is canceled as part of a restructuring effort inside the company
no s2000 in '10 product year, rather an '11 s2000 esque roadster will be rebranded under Acura nameplate

sorry if repost

What a bummer.  I'd like to see pics of that S2000 with Acura badges.  I guess those spy photos of the Acura that looked like a S2000 that had a growth spurt were actually a sign of things to come.

Well, look at the Nissan GT-R, it's sales are only 1/2 of what was expected and with the updated NSX expected to have a $100K+ price tag it only makes sense to cancel it.

Now if it were up to me, which of course it isn't, I would do a exterior refresh on the current S2K and put a V6 in her to give it the tourqe that is missing from the car, putting in a 280-300CHP/260-270WTQ V6 would bring that car to life and make it trully compeditive with others like the corvette, viper, upper end rustangs and with mods (TC/SC) would put it in range even with a GT-R.

If there was a V6 S2K I'd buy one tomorrow.

yeah id probably buy a v6 s2k anyday.
if they did continue the s2k, who would like them to keep the looks relatively the same as the AP1/2 instead of a drastic change?
i wish they'd keep producing the same style s2k for some more time man. lol. i would love for it to be my next car.

no new NSX YAY. it looks like funky. If it were rebadged a S2k I wouldn't mine. The s2k need more power especially tq.

My J36 builds already bury the C32 from the NSX and weighs a good 100 lbs less.

If someone seriuosly wants a V6 S2K I can make that happen, I already did alot of research into it since I was going to convert mine, but it would not be cheap, probably in the $10K-$12.5K range when it is said and done, that is including replacing the stock S2K rear with one from a Skyline to hande to TQ.

Yeah I heard S2K rears literally explode when exposed to anything over 200 foot pounds.

Just get a Ford 9" to handle to the torque.

sorry for stupid questions but what would be point of droping 12k into s2k instead of just boosting it? im sure droping turbo would be cheaper?

Reliability, Immediate TQ, Reliability, good streetability, reliability, good gas milage as long as you wern't contantly raping the throttle, reliability.

+1 adding boost to a S2000 motor without doing work to the motor would not yeild the realiable power of dropping a V6 into it. It might yeild more HP but, over it wouldn't make a good daily drive. A good v6 build would make it a very reliable fast car.

Also Misha you would not want to get a planetary gear up your ass from your rear end exploding. This is one of the first things you need to do to an S2K when you add any type of FI setup.

Paul. what about converting 7th gen to RWD? maybe impractical but to have it done. or maybe AWD from CRV?

Title: Re: NSX is canceled
Post by: NVA-AV6 on March 06, 2009, 09:56:48 AM
That would be possible, but actually much more expensive and time consuming, going AWD using eaither a RL or Pilot drive line would first stick you with a AT, the 2010 6sp TL-S setup would be ungodly expensive at this point. To do the conversion....

Modify and use a RL rear suspension/frame, ect...
Gas tank would have to be changed out to a trunk mounted fuel cell.
Custom Exhaust
Cut out and reshape center tunnel front to rear to allow for the center drive shaft.
Re-wire and use RL or Pilot ECU
Add support for dirve shaft center support
Modify center shaft for car legnth

To put a J in a S2K.....

Custom motor mounts
Relo battery to trunk
Upgrade rear (Off the shelf options)
Custom clutch setup (not a big deal)
Tranny > engine adaptor plate fab (biggest single task, but far from being overly difficult)
Plumbing- fuel, coolant  (not a big deal)
PS is electric in the S so get rid of the PS pump and run a shorter belt
Custom exhaust (using a 7th gen like engine, cast manifolds, makes this rather easy)
Use the ECU and wire harness from a 6sp 7th gen AV6 to be emmisions (ODBii) compliant (Second biggest task, but again far from not doable)

seems that it could be done with a CRV 5mt AWD trans. for us 4 bangers anyways. i'm going to try it in 10 years when my car isn't worth very much anymore.

I'll get some custom emblems made : Accord EX-WRX-STI-EVO-MR...type R

I want to experience an s2k with a J series in it. I think that lightweight baby would turn into a stone cold killer. I dont care much for awd, i live in the city thus i don't need an awd. My mom has an 2008 Nissan Rogue AWD, i took it out when we had a huge storm and it handled like it should. Give me an s13 convertible with an RB power plant and i will not ask for anything else lol.

Dont get me wrong i love my gen7.
