Title: Building the J for boost.....
Post by: NVA-AV6 on February 26, 2009, 08:26:49 PM
Time for a new build. This one is going to take time so be patient with the updates, but here it goes.

Goal: 750WHP+

This build will be a fully built J engine made for hadeling 25-30PSI of boost. The block will be sleeved with Darton MID sleeves, eaither KMS or CP forged pistons, Paulter rods, 07 MDX forged crank, KMS SS valve train, TL-S cams, GT35RS snail, other parts TBD. Total displacement will be 3.7L and 10:1 compression.

Here are some pics of the sleeves and the start of block boring for the sleeves. I expect to screw up this "test" block, but learn the details of how to work with these for sleeving, luckily I have 3 or 4 of these J30 block laying around.

750 on the dyno to say its been done, the detune to 500-550 for the street, as far as the tranny, LSD, cryo treating the gears and a stage 4 clutch. And some other suspension/mount work to try to keep wheel hop under control.

I can't wait to see this done Paul. I will be looking forward to all your builds.

That's going to be awesome Paul.  I don't know much about cryo treating, but have you also looked into WPC treatment?

I think this block is already trash, I machined for the intergrated deck relief, hit the called out bore exactly (4.760 +/- .001) and it still has .005 clearence and does not fit snugly (.000 to .001 clearence), I will be calling darton to find out WTF..... This is why I expected to destroy at least one of these blocks, I will finish out this side of this block to see what other issues arise from using the darton drawing, this is not the first time I have seen the darton drawing being off a bit.

^You would be correct.

Well, I completed boring the other side for sleeveing one of the cylinders and now have my maching plan set as well as corrections for the fitment I want( Which I already discussed with a Darton engineer who was happy with it), so it is time to start doing a real block.

Well, one bank machined, one bank to go. I am also ordering more steel to make the clamping/tourqe plates so I can install the sleeves this week.

is there special intake manifold going to be built for this or you going to use stock or maybe from j32 from type-s engine?

Debating, since this will be a hard core FI build there is alot I can get away with there, but right now I am actually thinking of using a 2nd gen cl-s/tl-s intake, the internal ports are actually much larger the the 7th gen/3rd gen tl intake maini.

Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on March 02, 2009, 04:24:20 PM
yeah thats one i was thinking. i guess that internal actuator can be removed or something that runs off throttle body cable or something

Iv'e been looking at adapting the 7th gen actuator, they are very different from the old style.

Post by: AV6NHBP6SPD on March 02, 2009, 05:01:09 PM
hm. doesnt that actuator only works when vtec kicks in?(you know that second throtle cable that goes from main throtle body on cl-s to second "throtle" thing on back side of manifold

Title: Re: Building the J for boost.....
Post by: NVA-AV6 on March 02, 2009, 05:19:38 PM
No, actually that acturator normally function right around 4K and VTEC around 4700RPM.

Sleeves are installed, next step is to deck the block, then bore and hone to the final size for the pistons.

oh ok. dont know if Paul mistypes or not couse some of vocabluary that goes with engine is new to me so i take it how he writes :)

Yes, I mean deck the block, fixed :P

Paul has mad typos.  Carrie told me that when I went down there last year.  She explained that if everything is misspelled and has typos, Paul is posting.  If everything is spelled correctly and has proper punctuation, it's her posting for him.  I lol'ed.

^^ That's right. I am working during the day now that it is the school year so I am not there much or up to it enough to post for him. I am at work now for another 30 minutes or so.
