Title: Pop when going in reverse Post by: neoryan7 on January 18, 2011, 08:54:52 PM When I apply the brakes for the first time while in reverse I hear this loud pop. It only happens in reverse and am almost certain it is coming from the front b/c sometimes I can feel it in the steering wheel.
Any inputs to what it might be? I am on tein ss-p with a brembo bbk. I have inspected the various components in the wheel well and non see broken/loose or leaking. Thoughts? Title: Re: Pop when going in reverse Post by: slipkord on January 18, 2011, 09:04:02 PM Auto?
Title: Re: Pop when going in reverse Post by: Mike on January 18, 2011, 09:20:08 PM Trans type makes a big difference here but, the first thing that comes to mind is an axle or ball joint.
Title: Re: Pop when going in reverse Post by: timot_one on January 18, 2011, 10:15:56 PM I'd say axle too, but didn't you have your axles replaced recently Ryan? I'd check your ball joints, bushings, tranny, and engine mounts.
Title: Re: Pop when going in reverse Post by: neoryan7 on January 19, 2011, 05:59:11 AM its an auto and I've had the axles replaced probably 4 or so months ago. I'll see if its my ball joints. If it were my tranny/axles then it should make a pop when I put it in drive after right?

Title: Re: Pop when going in reverse Post by: wai_pang2 on February 12, 2011, 12:29:29 AM I noticed the same thing on my car. When I park on level ground, and there is no load on the transmission, there is no popping noise but when I do have a load on the transmission from parking on a hill, then it has a sound. The more load from parking on a steeper incline, the louder the bang.
Title: Re: Pop when going in reverse Post by: cna on February 12, 2011, 01:09:21 AM have you checked your transmission mounts? do you feel it yank when you shift it in reverse ?
Title: Re: Pop when going in reverse Post by: wai_pang2 on February 12, 2011, 09:46:58 AM I'm sure that in my case it is not the transmission mount. I think it is the pin that slides into one of the gear when you put it in park is what I am having problems in. It is not a big deal as of now because whenever I park the car, I also pull the e-brake as this keeps the car from putting a load on the transmission.
"do you feel it yank when you shift it in reverse?" When I do have a load on the transmission after parking it (normally it is second nature for me to pull up the e-brake but sometimes, my wife or my mom will drive it and they do not use the e-brake), I do have to put some muscle in order to pull it out of park and into reverse.
