I need some opinions. My Dad has finally decided to let me lower my car. This opens me up to doing wheels, because there was no way in hell i was going to do wheels without a drop. I still haven't finalized my plans. I either want Tein S-Techs or an Eibach Pro Kit. I dont want a major drop. I know I will have to get a rear camber kit, ingalls seems pretty popular, so I guess I will go with them. I either want 17" HFP wheels, Jobata has them I believe, or Tl-type s wheels. I am leaning towards the HFP, but that is where you all come in. Which wheels and suspension do y'all prefer?

Title: Re: (Profile)Wtcii
Post by: Anonymous on May 10, 2009, 11:08:02 PM
both the Tein S techs and Eibach pro kit will not give you a major drop, but between them to I would choose the S techs just because they are a little lower than Eibach so the drop will be more noticible.

As much as I like the 5 spokes of the HFP silverstars, I would still choose the Type S wheels in terms of design of the wheels, I feel flows better and allowing you to put wider tires due its wheel width.

Again this is just my opinion, based on you explaining your situation on choosing wheels and suspension.

Title: Re: (Profile)Wtcii
Post by: CrackerTeg on May 11, 2009, 08:08:27 AM
Bill, I'd have to agree with Ryan. Go with the S techs (especially since I've had them for about 4k miles), they ride awesome! And I also agree with getting the type S wheels because of the width. That's why I'm going with the TL base wheels, but not leaving them silver.

Post by: unclejud49348 on May 11, 2009, 09:30:21 AM
Welcome to ECM Bill, clean ride you've got there.

I think both the HFP and TL-S rims are pretty cool looking, but my personal preference is the TL-S.

Title: Re: (Profile)Wtcii
Post by: wtcii on May 11, 2009, 07:53:15 PM
Thanks for the Welcomes..... never too late. I think that I am leaining towards the HFP, partly because they are a little bit plainer. Also since they do take the beefier tires, they will be a bit more expensive to maintain. I will be in College soon and will not have the money to fork over. My Dad is pretty frugal, so he will only buy tires for the wheels that i have now. i am still on the fence though. I love the way the Type s wheels look, I just dont know about how they will look on my car with such a subtle drop. I guess I will be getting the tein springs though. They seem to have good feed back so far I dont think that I want to tackle this project on my own, so I will probably take it to my mechanic to have it done.
Anyone want to photoshop it for me.

Hey, I can photoshop a picture for you. Just to make sure though, is this the right HFP wheel?

I tried googling a picture of one, but there's like 5 different styles, lol. Oh wait, did you want just the drop, or both?

Title: Re: (Profile)Wtcii
Post by: wtcii on June 16, 2009, 09:11:48 PM
Thanks, but it is the 5 spoke one. Like this:

Title: Re: (Profile)Wtcii
Post by: wtcii on June 16, 2009, 09:38:28 PM
Thanks! It is much better than what I couldv'e done. I think that I like them. I finally got all of my suspension parts. I am either going to get these or the TL 5 spoke wheels. I would rather have the HFP, but the TL are much easier to come by at a reasonable price, which is important when your a senior in high school.

Title: Re: (Profile)Wtcii
Post by: Jeff Likes Bagels on June 16, 2009, 09:41:11 PM
Yeah, definitely. I'd like to get some TL-S rims, but I can already tell without any research that they're going to be pricey, lol. And a set of new wheels won't look good without a lowered suspension. Maybe I'll wait on the wheels for awhile, and get the lowering springs instead. I may follow your path and get the same set. I'm a senior this year too. :P

Oh, and why are your EX rims so much more damned shinier than mine? lol

Title: Re: (Profile)Wtcii
Post by: wtcii on June 16, 2009, 09:53:31 PM
I originally just planned to upgrade it to an EX, but the mod bug bit. They were literally brand new in that picture, hence shinieness, if thats even a word

do you plan on blackhousing your headlights at all? That may look nice with the green on your car. I'm in love with mine, lol. It took about a whole Saturday to do, so don't plan on driving anywhere. :P You could even paint them the same color of your car, along with the grill. That'd be very interesting.

Title: Re: (Profile)Wtcii
Post by: wtcii on June 28, 2009, 08:10:37 PM
I plan to get some chrome inspires if I ever can find them and have the money when I do. I like the way the black house looks but I want my car to look as stock as possible with a few subtle changes hence minor drop and Honda/acura wheels. After I get my wheels though I need to start saving for paint because my paint on my hood is screwed up and it bothers me everytime I see my car from the front. So after I pay for the Hood, fenders, and bumpers to get repainted Ill see what I want to do. Oh, and Rolo has Noble Green Pearl Headlights and the grill, I think.

Title: Re: (Profile)Wtcii

props for keeping it stock! I'd rather hear that than see you get an enormous unpainted bodykit screwed onto your car with sheet metal screws :P

UPDATED

I'm going to wash it tomorrow and take all new pictures. I should have them up by Monday. After reading a lot about lowering cars, I think I am going to need new struts at some point even though Eibach claims they are compatible with OEM struts. I'm leaning towards the Tokico struts after reading about them a little bit on here. I dont care if they are adjustable I just want to get them replaced before I lose my OEM ones and are compatible with lowering springs. I dont really want to spend a lot of money on them either. Anyone else have any suggestions, or someone who has had lowering springs/OEM strut experience good or bad?

Be prepared to cuss profusely when removing that pinstripe! Lol. I would get about 4 inches peeled off and it would snap off. The reward is well worth it though. :P

Title: Re: [Profile] wtcii
Post by: wtcii on October 24, 2009, 03:26:41 PM
The pin stripe is gone! I ended up playing golf thursday, so I didn't do it then. Got home from the act and figured why not. I tried my fender in the garage=cold, that didnt work to well, so I moved it outside and that helped a lot. I am about to go wash it. I'll post an updated picture when I am done for the day.

Here is the pin stripeless picture also added to op. I just noticed the timeline of the fence in the background of all of my pictures. It goes from standing up, to a section down, and then new fence.

Im trying to figure out something small to do to my car. I've gotten kind of bored with it and figure it would help if I would do something. I going to spend a little bit of my Christmas money. I want to spend about $150. I was thinking a Scanguage II, 22mm TL RSB, DC front strut bar, just something along those lines. I would like to do brakes but I dont want to spend enough to do all 4 corners. Any ideas or suggestions?

Title: Re: [Profile] wtcii
Post by: wtcii on December 31, 2009, 11:03:37 PM
Well, I just ordered the TL-S 20mm rsb. I need to go get a left link because I stripped it during my spring install. I shopped around online and the minimum shipping I saw was 15, so I am just going to get it from my dealer. It cost $46.32.

Title: Re: [Profile] wtcii
Post by: wtcii on January 04, 2010, 03:28:39 PM
I went to my dealer to pick up the end link and they wanted $90.00 because they only sell them in pairs. So, I'm going to get one at Autozone for 12.99. With the Eibach Pro-Kit, stock struts, and crappy Kumho tires, should I upgrade the front? I dont want to do the FSB because Im not comfortable doing that in my garage. I like the way the DC sports one looks but is that enough to compensate for the upgraded RSB and stock FSB? I have seen a few people with ebay strut bars, do those help?

Title: Re: [Profile] wtcii
Post by: Jeff Likes Bagels on January 08, 2010, 10:36:00 PM
I'd say that the ebay strut tower bar helped out a lot. Plus it was $25 as opposed to $100 or whatever for the DC one, lol. The roll isn't completely gone, but it removed a lot of it. Right now with me having the front ebay STB, and the rear TL-S 20mm, I'd say it's a good combo. The only thing I would do is get the OEM front strut tower brace next to improve the front even more. You may not have as much roll as I do since you're lowered. I believe the OEM STB is like 60-70 bucks new. The DIY on here looks annoying though. You have to fiddle with the wiper blades and some shit, lol.

Title: Re: [Profile] wtcii
Post by: wtcii on January 09, 2010, 10:42:11 AM
Thanks Jeff. I'll check one of those out at some point. At the moment after the seat covers and RSB I'm broke. My rsb came in yesterday. I'm not sure when I will be able to install it, but hopefully soon.

Title: Re: [Profile] wtcii
Post by: Jeff Likes Bagels on January 09, 2010, 03:50:07 PM
Good luck with that. If you need any help, just send me a PM. Although, it's pretty straightforward. I highly recommend bending the exhaust hanger while you're at it too, because it'll eventually rub its way through your RSB. I had to jack the back of the car up though to get enough leverage. Just find a strong pipe to use. If you're completely unable to find one, I could ship you the bar that I used, lol.

Title: Re: [Profile] wtcii
Post by: wtcii on January 14, 2010, 06:21:48 PM
The TL-S RSB is installed and it is awesome. It is most definitely the best mod for the money. It had a greater impact on handling then my springs did. Well guys, I think I am done with the car. I plan to do some paint work within the next few months but a part from that, I'm done. I think it has come a long way and I am pleased. I know it is only very lightly modded but I think it is much better then what it was. The only "mod" I can see my self doing would be a front strut bar or something... I dont really know.

Title: Re: [Profile] wtcii
Post by: CrackerTeg on January 14, 2010, 08:12:12 PM

You love some green dont you? lol I'll get one at some point. I just need for work to pick up. I havent worked since the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I should start next week, so we will see. I have had my eye on the Neuspeed or DC sports one though... Along with the 6MT one. Dont you have two? If so, do you have a picture? So maybe I should rephrase my previous statement. I have no major mods planned or intent to plan such as retros or wheels like I once did.

Hey Bill, what are your impressions of the TLS RSB with your drop? I keep hearing mixed reviews but since you and I have essentially the same suspension setup (springs wise) I'm interested to hear your thoughts on it. Jeff complains about snap oversteer and a few others do as well. I have the TL 17mm RSB but fell like it isn't enough but with my current tire setup (OEM Michelins, for now) the 17mm is enough.

It made a great difference I think and I had it installed before my drop... once the drop came the ride was nice! No still running oem on the back. That is a future upgrade soon to come!

I didnt experience any oversteer. I also didnt push it too hard either. I took a few banked sharp turn ranging from 40-60 mph. I just went out in the country to the twisties for about an hour and I was pretty impressed. Definitely not the car it used to be but I think the springs and rsb are a good combo. I could see it not feeling enough especially if you did the rsb after springs, not sure which order you did them in but I am def glad I got the 20mm. I think I could get my back end loose though if I tried, I just dont want to. I dont know if the people who are experiencing oversteer are accelerating at the beginning of the turn then letting of midway through but I think that will do it.

I did the TL 17mm rsb before I did my springs. The one time I had the ass end come loose was on a cloverleaf on ramp a few months back on wet pavement and it caused me to slide into the dirt. I blame the shitty Michelin tires for that one. Once I get my new tires on, that should be a thing of the past. I just might throw on the TLS rear since I now have the fstb to complement it. Bill, if you push your car (obviously don't go more than you are comfortable with and without other cars around), I'd like to get your impressions. I love to throw my car around turns but only when the roads are dry and even then my tires howl so I have to let off.

For $50 bucks it would hurt. It will push my car harder and let you know. I just didnt want to push it hard so there would be no associations with new mods and wrecks.

After I got my G019 Grids, I haven't had any problems with oversteer. To be honest, the 20mm isn't as bad as people play it out to be. I can see where if you don't know what you're doing, you can induce oversteer. When I first did the TL-S RSB, I didn't even know what oversteer, understeer, or snap-oversteer was. After realizing these things, it's made me understand a lot more about the capabilities of my car. It's all about knowing what your car can handle.

By the way, I got that eBay strut tower bar for $2 shipped. I originally paid $27 for it, but I also got a $25 bonus credit from my credit union the same day. :D

I think the hardest I've pushed my car was when I was taking a 25mph off-ramp going 60. Even with my crappy stock springs, the rear was staying pretty planted, while the front still had some roll to it. I think that if I got the V6 6MT strut tower brace, it'll help out better though. In theory it'd be better to get the TL-S FSB, but I don't have the means to install it, unfortunately.

I agree about the people making it out to be worse than it it. I was hitting turns at 60 and no problems. I have heard horror stories of people doing 360's. I call bull shit unless they are doing it on ice or wet pavement going 100.

Good to know. I've got G019's planned for later and my just throw in the TLS bar immediately after.

I put some new pictures of my Katzkin leather seat covers up. I think with the heat and time they look better.

Bump!

I went and took some pictures today and figured I would take a couple of my car while I had it in a decent backdrop.

Looks good man. When your tires wear out, throw on some 225/55/16's on there, and it will look a lot better, IMO.

Thanks! If I still have it when the tires where out, I'll definitely take that into consideration. Regardless of if I keep it or not, I'll be putting stock springs back on soon. *Flame Shield Up*

What's wrong with the Eibachs? But as far as the tires go, I'm glad that I went with the size that I got (all thanks to Rocketstarter). The car has a much better stance appearance-wise.

I still need to lower my car, but I have a feeling that if I do, I'll end up getting a TSX or something down the road, and will have put all this money in for nothing.

Nothing is wrong with them. When I was in Tupelo, they were great. A lot of roads are concrete or fresh asphalt, so it was always really smooth. Now, I drive my car maybe 350 miles a month and most of that can be attributed to going home, 140 miles round trip, and the roads are awful. The rest of the time it sits in a parking lot. So I just want it to be more comfortable when I go home. Also, with the possibility of a trade in the future, I'll be putting it back to stock height so they don't give us less money because it is "modified".

And this is where Jeff jumps in and says he'll buy those springs off you to drop his car.

Such is life young Padawan. Everyone has the opportunity to get something else and mod the cars anyway. No matter what you do, your car will ALWAYS depreciate. Why not have fun with it?

Maybe, but now I think I want to go lower than the Pro-Kit, haha. And I guess you're right. Fuck it!  :flip:

About time you came to your senses.

Thought I would update. My paint is still fucked. I need to get the entire passenger side of the car repainted. I'm to the point that I want to put a rag in the gas tank and light it on fire. My CD player barely works, skips constantly. A couple weeks ago I went home and picked it up, decided to drive it for a week or so instead of the RX, put a full tank of premium and some Lucas fuel injector cleaner in it. Then I took it back to Starkville. When I got on the highway I floored it. When it shifted out of second it lost all power. Then it never happened again. I talked to Jer about it and he thinks it was the old gas that had been sitting in there. Other than that stuff it's running great. I hit 84,000 miles not to long ago.

Hmmm I knew I've seen your car somewhere. I go to MSU and spotted you driving on campus. Hope to meet sometime.

Sorry, I'm just now seeing this. That's crazy. I had no idea there was another member on campus. What year are you?

Yeah I was walking on campus and I spotted a green Accord and it looked just like yours and I looked at this profile page. Unfortunately I no longer attend MSU :( If you mean Accord, it's a 2006 V6 6M Alabaster coupe. It was my first semester there. I left due to personal reasons. But who knows, I may visit from time to time.
