Title: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: phatmastaflip on September 23, 2010, 07:34:22 PM I have an 06 LX 4cyl 58k mi. The rattle sounds like metal to metal like a drum roll. Sometimes all is good but sometimes its worse. This happens sometimes when i brake. It also happens when i park my car on a decline (my driveway) in D or R and my ebrake on. i pop the hood and my engine is shaking quite a bit. once i put it back in N or P it seems fine. I have recently changed (after the fact) my oil, spark plugs, transmission fluid, and air filter. my idle seems stable and car runs smooth while driving normally. any help is much appreciated.
Anthony Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on September 23, 2010, 09:06:18 PM I could be a mount. You might not notice the rattle when your driving because of road nose. I have about 88k on my V6 and I've had a pair of mounts fixed/replaced.

Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: CrackerTeg on September 24, 2010, 03:22:18 AM Look for fluid on or around your mounts. Like the consensus has already said, you have one or two bad mounts.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on September 24, 2010, 08:20:08 AM Mine never leaked any fluid. I know its one of the symptoms but, mine were ripped up pretty bad and didn't leak.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: slipkord on September 24, 2010, 08:37:28 AM I had one go bad in the tsx, never leaked but stuff rattled pretty good
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: CrackerTeg on September 24, 2010, 11:04:17 AM May have leaked all the fluid out by the time you guys looked at them. Then again, not all of the mounts have damping oil in them. Who knows.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: k24low20z on September 24, 2010, 11:43:06 AM i just replaced the rear mount on my i4 also because of the shaking on D... if you feel the dash shacking alot it maybe your rear mount thats bad..
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on September 24, 2010, 12:45:25 PM May have leaked all the fluid out by the time you guys looked at them. Then again, not all of the mounts have damping oil in them. Who knows. They were still full homie. Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: phatmastaflip on September 24, 2010, 01:44:07 PM sounds good... i shall look more into getting new mounts. ill check back with you all later. any tips or links on changing mounts?
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on September 24, 2010, 03:01:03 PM Contact NVA-AV6 he can hook you up. He "repaired" one of mine, and saved me a ton of money
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: CrackerTeg on September 24, 2010, 03:37:37 PM They were still full homie. Well then. I've never had one go out on me (knock on wood) and I wasn't there when yours went out. I'm just going by what's been told to others.Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on September 24, 2010, 05:39:30 PM One the J30 ones any way there is a dust boot on the top which may contribute to keeping the fluid inside. Mine were in two pieces lol
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: CrackerTeg on September 25, 2010, 05:55:34 AM Two piece mounts FTW! ???
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: k24low20z on September 25, 2010, 10:31:46 AM yeah thats how all my mounts were...in two peices FTL!!!
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on September 25, 2010, 12:25:21 PM When you see them broken the internal design of them is actually pretty lame.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: CrackerTeg on September 25, 2010, 03:31:48 PM Most mounts are. The mounts on my DA had busted and I ended up doing the DIY poly filled mounts. Meant a bit of cabin vibrations but it certainly made the daily drive more fun.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: phatmastaflip on October 15, 2010, 12:48:09 PM the motor mounts are covered under powertrain warranty!!!! im at the dealership now...
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on October 15, 2010, 02:22:44 PM That's a bit of good news!
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: CrackerTeg on October 15, 2010, 05:29:34 PM Very good news.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on October 15, 2010, 08:02:34 PM Did they take care of you? was it the mounts?
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: phatmastaflip on October 16, 2010, 05:04:22 AM :'( we could not replicate the noise.... lame. it never works when you show someone else WTF. but it is confirmed that the mounts ARE covered (we scanned the parts) and also i got a FREE car wash. i guess ill have to go back in a few days when it happens again.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: timot_one on October 16, 2010, 09:26:19 AM Bummer.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: CrackerTeg on October 17, 2010, 10:35:07 AM Why not just have them replace the mounts anyway? If they want a satisfied, return customer, this would be one of those instances. Just sayin'.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: timot_one on October 17, 2010, 05:38:32 PM That's not now Honda dealerships work.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: CrackerTeg on October 18, 2010, 09:04:07 AM I know but it always seems that when there's a problem, the problem can't be replicated when brought to the dealer or otherwise.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: timot_one on October 18, 2010, 10:46:41 AM That's why I drive the fucking car with the tech in it.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: fabulous010 on October 18, 2010, 04:43:55 PM Are there anynother symptoms to broken engine mounts? My engine seems to idle abit rougher then before (ie. When it had under 100k.) rpms dont jump or nothing. I can just feel the engine more
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on October 18, 2010, 08:05:04 PM Feeling the engine more is the opposite. Generally when a mount is broken you feel the engine less at idle, and it will "bang" when you take off.
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: fabulous010 on October 18, 2010, 11:10:24 PM Oh really? Thanks mike. I had no clue b4
Title: Re: Engine RATTLE idle? mounts? Post by: Mike on October 19, 2010, 08:40:49 AM Think of it this way. With a broken mount the engine is going to be sort of disconnected from the frame. At idle the weight of the engine should hold it relatively still. When it would be felt the most is when you first accelerate, or when you car shifts(times when the engine has the most load). To be honest I had two broken mounts, and never noticed. Now that they are fixed I constantly feel like my car is shifting wrong or running wrong because I’m still not used to actually feeling it with good mounts.
