I have googled it and it tells you the exact same thing you just said. I get the basic concept I was just hoping someone who knows what they are talking about good help me fine tune it. These are the best HDR shots I have taken. They may suck for HDR, but I like them.

Bill what type of camera do you use I'm in the market for a budget priced DSLR

I spoke with Milan before I purchased it. He suggested a Canon 20D, so without hesitation I bought one. I got it for $400 on eBay with the Body, Brand new 18-55mm lens, 2 batteriers, chargers, and 2 2gb CF cards. That was at least a year maybe two ago.

It takes some adjusting while Picking up the Lingo, and after about a year, I finally figured out how to play with the Fstop to get the starburst affect you told me about Don

I got bored so I tried taking some cool pictures of stuff I had around. I thought this one turned out alright. What do you guys think?

bill, don't use sepia or any old time looking "effect".  it always cheapens photos.  That may look alright in just black and white, but not this sepia shit.

as far as the composition, it's not bad, just wish the focus was a bit sharper to really bring you in to one or two of those caps. and you need a little bit more room in the foreground.

^ i disagree.  sepia is definitely best suited for outdoors but it can put a totally different perspective on a pic over BW.

I'm also in the market for a DSLR.  I've been into underwater photography for a while and finally upgraded to digital in that world but would like to do the same for my SLR.  I'm seeing the 20D prices range anywhere from $400 used to $1,400 new.

Hmm, I'll try to work on those suggestions. I liked the sepia better than black and white. Here is the B&W version:

^ up your contrast a little in the B&W and you'll get a much more interesting shot.

I went to a popular area right off campus earlier and tried to get some HDR shots. I have a ton of sensor dust and I dont have the serial to photomatrix anymore.

i think the 2nd try in the bottle caps came out better. i knew the first one had to do with the focus but i just couldnt put my eye on it lol.

I got an awesome book and suggest it to anyone who is trying to learn how to take better pictures. It is called Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson.

Any of you guys ever updated the firmware on your cams i currently have a fujifilm fine pix s1800 and i hear upgrading the firmware will improve my playback a bit ?

Clemente, I updated the firmware on my Canon 20D when I first got it. I never really noticed.

So, I took my family portraits Christmas 2009 and Christmas 2010. There is only one time that my Dad's side of the family is together so we all take individual pictures then a group picture. In 2009 we were outside and I would say the pictures turned out pretty well. This year it was really cold with snow and ice so we elected to take them inside this year. I had started shooting manually and had gotten pretty confident, but I only took pictures outside manually for the most part. I used my Dad's camera because it's nicer but I'm not as familiar with it. I think it is a Canon T2i. To wrap it up, the pictures sucked. They looked pretty awesome on the camera screen, but when I put them on the computer and developed them, they suck. Any ideas of what I did. Here is my family to show you guys what I am talking about.

you need to check your white balance, that's what's causing the red and yellow tint to the picture (this can be semi-fixed in photoshop, but only to a certain degree, and more so if you shoot in RAW). and the focus is clearly soft which means the focus point was off and you had a wide open aperture..  what did you have the f-stop and shutter speed at?

I was wondering what was wrong with the color. Everybody's teeth look yellow. I think I took it off AWB and set it to incandescent lighting. F stop is 5.6 Exposure time is 0.3. Oh, and it is a T1i not T2i, if that matters at all.  

wow.. I'm not sure why your picture came out so out of focus if you had it at those settings.. 5.6 aperture should give you plenty DOF for all of you. The incandescent setting is more than likely the problem. either leave it auto, or learn about color temperatures for setting the WB yourself with a light meter.

i don't know anything about canon cameras as I shoot Nikon, so I'm not sure if there's a problem with one model as opposed to another. you'll have to wait for Milan, or PM him bout canon stuff.

anybody planning to sell any camera lenses by chance? looking for F1.4 lens, (most likely 50mm, or 28 1.8 maybe)

ur problem is 0.3sec shooter time. most likely you moved camera and blured the shot or ppl moved ifyou didnt move. white ballance can be easily be fixed
here is what i got playing with pic for couple mins in photoshop elements and camera raw. higher res image would have been better and RAW file would have helped a lot. if you gona shoot family pics switch to RAW file format if you have editing software for that, its such a powerfull too

can anyone recommend a good starter DSLR camera. I want to give photographic a shot, but I don't want to spend 1000 bucks for a body. Just need something to practice with and to test the waters of photographic. Any suggestion would be great!

300 max. I was looking at Sony Alpha and stuff but I really don't know how to shop for  a first time DSLR. Google gave some help but I don't know what all the features do.

300max for a decent dslr is going to be tough, ebay/craigslist is your best bet for something good..  I don't know a thing about Sony's line, but to be honest, I wouldn't consider anythign other than nikon or canon.

when looking around, just find something that has the features you are looking for, and if you're trying to get serious about photography, you'll need to look into having a camera with a full manual mode so you can set the camera the way you want and figure out what settings do what.  problem is that your 300 price limit really doesn't help with much because you're going to need lenses to go with the body. and they are NOT cheap.

im real big into graphics and just recently got into photography...im really good with photoshop which is more of my focus rather than the type of camera i use
