Title: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 05, 2010, 08:52:43 PM Well every one I'm done the last straw came today as I pulled into my driveway today after a weekend in NH, and my tranny blew again. Its still under warranty from when I had it rebuilt but, I'm pretty much done with it. At this point I don't feel I can trust this car. Of course being my luck the actual Aamco place the rebuilt it went out of business so now I have to bring it to another one to have the work done. When my car comes back I'm going to take off what little mods I have and trade it in for something more reliable. Maybe a TSX or something. I just can't deal with this shit anymore.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: timot_one on July 05, 2010, 09:35:38 PM That sucks to hear Mike. I'm sorry that a shop's shoddy work is what causes you to get rid of your car. I hope you get a TSX. That seems to be a trend for people on this site.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 05, 2010, 09:49:26 PM I'm going to have it rebuilt again obviously at a different Aamco. I have to see whats up tomorrow. I'm sure it will be a nightmare to deal with. Right now the list goes 1. TSX 2. V6 6 speed 3. 4 cyl 7th gen 4. Civic SI. I love the G35 but, I can't justify the cost. I can say for a fact that I will never own another car with an Automatic transmission.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: timot_one on July 05, 2010, 09:55:17 PM You may want to fix choice #3. They don't exist.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: slipkord on July 05, 2010, 10:08:58 PM As i said on fb mike, that sucks. My list looks alot like yours. GL bro
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: CrackerTeg on July 06, 2010, 12:13:43 AM That's sucks and I had a similar experience with aamco rebuilding a tranny on one of my old cars. Shit blew up a few months after the warranty expired on the highway 6 hours away from home. Thanks to that, I will never trust an autotragic domestic.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 06, 2010, 07:33:34 AM Thankfully I bought a 3 year extended warranty. Of course everything becomes more complicated when the original shop went out of business. I have to make the call in about a half hour. I'm just thankful it didn't happen halfway to VA when I'm supposed to see Paul at the end of the month. I have to decide if it's even worth making that trip now. I really want to trade this thing in at this point.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: CrackerTeg on July 06, 2010, 09:25:20 AM Well, if your trip down to Paul's involves a 6MT swap, then yes its worth it.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 06, 2010, 10:50:11 AM It doesn't but, the timing belt still needs to be changed. I don't know what direction to go in. My car is very close to paid off and not having a payment sounds like a really good time.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 06, 2010, 08:01:28 PM Question for you all. I'm close to paying off my Accord. I have the balance of the AAMCO 3 year 36000 mile warranty that I purchased. Should I keep my Accord, and pay it off then sell it just before the tranny warranty is out?
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: timot_one on July 06, 2010, 08:14:44 PM That would be a great way for you to accumulate money for a new car.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: slipkord on July 06, 2010, 09:04:36 PM It doesn't but, the timing belt still needs to be changed. I don't know what direction to go in. My car is very close to paid off and not having a payment sounds like a really good time. Now you see why I've been going back and forth about getting a new car. I've been car noteless for 5 months now and it feels oh oh oh yeah so good :oBut, having a new car feels almost as good...Good luck Mike Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 06, 2010, 09:11:49 PM Its not even the not having a payment thing. The way my Dad put it sort of made sense. I paid for the warranty I may as well use it. We will see what the guy at the Aamco says. He seems less shady than the one that went out of business. My front lip got a little fucked up going onto the trailer. Car was to low at stock height. Ended up having to pull the lip off.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: alpha on July 07, 2010, 12:38:30 AM AAMCO for tranny work? really?
sorry to hear about the car trouble Mike, hope it works out for you.. Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 07, 2010, 07:27:13 AM Well initially it's the only place the warranty would cover the work from. They offered a 3 year/ 36000 mile nation wide warranty so I took the bait figuring I'd keep the car that long. I talked to a few people and they expressed that AAMCO is hit or miss. Hopefully this time ends up better than the last couple. There really aren't many other options local to me. There is 1 or 2 other tranny shops in my area that would even consider working on a Honda.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: ikethegreat on July 07, 2010, 08:59:55 AM Since it's almost paid off and the tranny is covered under warranty, I see no reason to get rid of it. Unless you just really love seeing that monthly car bill show up in the mail.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 07, 2010, 09:22:53 AM Well in my current situation I have enough expendible income to handle a car payment. The other thing I'm begining to think about is that my coupe is really not practical at all. I'll probably keep it until I find a steal of a deal somewhere but, I have a feeling it won't be anything sporty. Probably going to end up with a smaller SUV.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: v6sicksspeed on July 07, 2010, 10:24:23 AM bummer to hear about this mike. it sounds like the best bet is to keep it through the warranty. as your dad put it, you already paid for it so if anything else goes wrong with the tranny its covered for a while.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 07, 2010, 10:41:30 AM Yeah I think i'm going to hold onto it unless I find a steal on something else.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: mitchigan on July 07, 2010, 11:23:03 PM Probably going to end up with a smaller SUV. I'm sort of in the same boat as you, except I only don't want my CM anymore because I need a family hauler. Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 08, 2010, 07:40:30 AM Thats sort of my situation also. We are about to buy a house so I need to have the ability to transport some stuff that I'll need.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 08, 2010, 03:47:31 PM Just talked to the shop. They have to take it out and rebuilt it again. Should be done early next week.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 09, 2010, 04:48:23 PM Update: Of course I couldn't get out of this for free. Turns out that there is a bad motor mount ($200), and they are going to install a transmission cooler ($200)... Nothing is free in this world I guess!
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: timot_one on July 09, 2010, 05:15:48 PM That's a bullshit excuse Mike. Tell them to S the D and replace that shit for free.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 09, 2010, 05:22:01 PM Well the motor mount was toast before hand. They are actually installing that for the price of the parts sense it's already off. I honestly didn't even know the car had a transmission cooler but, I asked them to keep the old one, and show me the new one after install. The cooler isn't covered under warranty I looked it up.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: NVA-AV6 on July 09, 2010, 10:36:09 PM $200 for a rear mount, OK, but if it is the front or especially the pass side, hell no.
Parts 9,12,13 are the mounts... http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/jsp/prddisplay.jsp?catcgry1=ACCORD&catcgry2=2005&catcgry3=2DR+EX+%28V6%29&catcgry4=KA5AT&catcgry5=ENGINE+MOUNTS+%28V6%29+%28AT%29&ListAll=All&vinsrch=no&systemcomp=List+All&prdrefno=&quantity=0&act=&count=0&hidSwitch=&hidIrno= Part number 1 for $126 is the "cooler assy", which I have about 8 sitting here. http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/jsp/prddisplay.jsp?catcgry1=ACCORD&catcgry2=2005&catcgry3=2DR+EX+%28V6%29&catcgry4=KA5AT&catcgry5=AT+OIL+LEVEL+GAUGE+%28V6%29&ListAll=All&vinsrch=no&systemcomp=List+All&prdrefno=&quantity=0&act=&count=0&hidSwitch=&hidIrno= Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: timot_one on July 09, 2010, 11:00:44 PM I was wondering if that "warmer" was the tranny cooler they were talking about.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 10, 2010, 12:55:46 AM I'm going to have to ask them which mount it is. Unfortunately I can argue but, my backs kind of against the wall.
Title: Re: Well I'm done Post by: Mike on July 10, 2010, 12:58:03 AM They described the mount as being between the engine and transmission. Not sure if that helps determine which one it is. I figure i'm getting taken advantage of a little. I'll be sure to bring up these prices Monday when I talk to them I'm sure they are probably tacking on a delivery charge and all that other shit.
