Title: My SC'd V6 Exhaust
Post by: NVA-AV6 on June 28, 2010, 03:14:25 PM
Well, I am finally getting a chance after almost a year to make the exhaust for my car and not because I had time to work on my own vehicvle, but I need my stock exhaust for someone else so time to get this done with material sitting for over 6 months for this, LOL.

I do not reccomend this for NA vehicles, with 2.5" primaries off the heads going to 3" there will be little to no back pressure for NA apps. Primaries are legthend a bit in order to provide a smooth merge to 3". The cat back will be a duplicate of what was made for Stevo405 which provided great flow with enough resonance to kill cabin droan and have a low level on sound with cruising/idle but still give a deep growl when getting on it. All cans and the cat are magnaflow, all piping/flanges/hangers/welds are stainless steel, piping is 16ga not the typical cheap chinese 18ga, this exhaust will last for MANY years. Lots of effort is being made to tuck everything up as tight as possible.

So far I have the front section of the J-Pipe fabbed and will be posting updates as progress is made.

Connections at the head are actually made from 3 pieces of piping, I did not want to strech and thin the material in order to make the open connection.

I am using V-Band flanges to create tighter connections but I make mine with a bit of extra work, I overlap the piping thru the flange, this makes for much better alighnment and sealing by having the piping extend past the "Outlet" flange and into the "Inlet" flange.

I can't wait to see your car and some of your work in person next month. I'm sure pics don't do it any justice, and if you need a stock exhaust you could certinly have mine when we swap it out.

Does anyone even make good sized headers for the I4, the DC is only 2.25" with 1.25" primaries, I would think 1.75" primaries to 2.5" would be the right combo for a blown K24....

The best headers I have seen (which I cannot afford to buy currently) are the Toda, 5 Zigen, Feels, and J's Racing CL7/9 headers.  The Toda is a 4-2-1 equal length design with 45mm primaries, that step up to 50mm at the first Y, then step up to 55mm at the 2nd Y, and then that steps up from 60mm in the test pipe that it comes with.  The 5Zigen headers are also a 4-2-1 design that have 45mm primaries that step up to 50mm, and then to 70mm.  I don't have any info about the Feel's header.  The J's Racing is also a 4-2-1 design that has 45mm primaries that step up to 50mm, and then to 60mm.  There are plenty of headers that I can have made from a company like SSR, Hytech, and R Crew also.

Do I spy the project aftercooler in the background there Paul? I'm waiting for that to come around.

The 5Zigens sound about right, 1.75 to 2 to 2.75. Has anyone done a full race 4 to1 yet?

SSR makes a 4-1, and I'm pretty sure that Hytech would be abel to make one.  K Tuned also makes a 4-1 race header.

J-Pipe/3rd cat is completed and installed. One piece to note is that I only use 1 secondary O2 sensor and have it wired to both inputs to the ECU, I have been running this for almost 2 years without issue.....

It is actually a Magnaflow part, in my case 3 to dual 2.5, they also make it for other sizes.

Paul great outcome of the precat delete/jpipe/ and hiflow cat in combination of your 3in exhaust. When i go supercharger I would definitely want to get this setup. great work.

You are definitely a J-Series Guru
