Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: MyNameIsThien on June 17, 2010, 10:10:42 PM Raise the car to take the load off. You will need a rubber mallet. Do not put it all the way on on one side. Kind of even it out and start to tap until fully installed.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: Mike on June 17, 2010, 10:14:22 PM Thien is 100% correct. When you jack your car up the chassis will flex making the towers further apart. If the bar fit on easily it would serve no purpose because it wouldn't be preventing any movement.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: JulsV6 on June 17, 2010, 10:21:40 PM I raised it up... because I came to that thought too...only thing i dont have is a rubber mallet to tap it until fitted. i guess that's what i need to grab and try this again.
Thanks fellas. Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: timot_one on June 18, 2010, 07:59:24 AM +1 to what Thien and Mike said. I've had to take my Neuspeed STB off multiple times and that has always been my method. Check out Harbor Freight for a rubber mallet. They have them pretty cheap.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: NVA-AV6 on June 18, 2010, 08:33:04 AM You can also use a regular hammer and a block of wood.......
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: timot_one on June 18, 2010, 09:24:27 AM Ohh yeah!

Double facepalm to me! Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: JulsV6 on June 18, 2010, 10:05:26 AM Lol thanks guys. I'm goin to see if I can grab me a mallet today on my way home from work, if not I'll try the wood n hammer trick Paul suggested. I'm goin to try and nail this tonite and hope those deng mosquitoes don't attack my sweet blood like they did last night.
Oh and harbor n freight is in Woodbridge. I go there every now and then. It's not too far from me but I don't think I will headin that way this weekend. But thanks for makin that suggestion. I'm probably better off findn a rubber mallet at walmart or home depot cuz they're closer. .... Just hoping I get this bar on this weekend. Tryin to tackle this one all by myself. It was supposed to be a simple diy job! Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: Lemonjelly on June 18, 2010, 10:13:26 AM Once you get the mallet the job will fly. After I got over the initial shock of how off my STB was and decided to try raising the car and using my mallet it took me ~5 minutes to get everything buttoned up and get on the road.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: Knocturnal84 on June 18, 2010, 10:31:03 AM HMMM had this same problem too. Raising the car didnt really help too much in my case so i took all the 5 bolts off of one strut and and used my knee to pushed the wheel down a bit till the strut bar went over the threads
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: JulsV6 on June 18, 2010, 11:27:29 AM Glad I'm not the only one... I was really startn to think somethin went wrong with the measurement when they built my car lol. Cuz how come it fit my buddies car but not mine?... I didn't think 7gen n 7.5gen had any change with suspension measurements. Glad u all can provide me input on how to go about with this. Thanks again!!

Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: NVA-AV6 on June 18, 2010, 12:26:51 PM Juels, get a "Dead Blow" hammer, it is rubber on the outside, but is filled with eaither sand or shot, it will sound like a moracha when you shake it and has alot more power behind it.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: JulsV6 on June 18, 2010, 03:25:55 PM Hrmm a morocca tool?! I'll see if I can find one. Hope I don't start goin ADD and dance around the neighborhood doin the salsa with it. Lol.

Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: timot_one on June 19, 2010, 12:00:05 AM I was gonna pay Julie to salsa dance with a hammer.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: Mike on June 19, 2010, 10:47:44 PM It would have comical value I'd contribute a couple of $ for that.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: neoryan7 on June 21, 2010, 03:01:43 AM I just used my weight to push it on. I semi bolted on one side, got to the other and pushed the bar towards the opposite side and it slipped on in a matter of seconds.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: JulsV6 on July 01, 2010, 09:34:04 AM Ok I had two other guys try helping me attempt this install yesterday for the third time/day and still no luck!. We jacked one side the car up and removed the tire and moved the brake assembly area to hope the studs would budge and even used the rubber mallet...Pushed the bar opposite way and all that you all mentioned. It didn't work! Used a huge chuck of wood also. Only thing we didn't have to use is the dead bar hammer. Or we're not doin something right! This is such a pain in the as and frustrating for something that shouldn't take longer than 20 mins to install. I never had this problem with my other cars I've owned. My friends that helped me said the same thing. What to do now?
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: Mike on July 01, 2010, 09:48:42 AM Julie the key might be to Jack the car in the middle as opposed to on one side. This way the weight of the car is focused in the middle causing the chassis to flex as far as it can. This should cause enough flexion to get the bar over the studs.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: JulsV6 on July 01, 2010, 11:26:44 AM Did that already mike. I did that the second day I tried.
We were thinkn if we would have to unmount the coilovers from the brake assembly so that it'd be easier to move but would be a hassle to mount back on once strut bar is installed without proper power tools. Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: timot_one on July 01, 2010, 01:24:18 PM You should be able to get it on without doing any of that stuff. It's too much of a pain in the ass to have to try and bolt everything back on with the STB on.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: CYANiDE on July 01, 2010, 01:48:09 PM The way I heard of installing it was to remove the bolts on top of your shocks under the hood, lift up one side of the car, while someone tugs the wheels towards them out, someone else tries to put it on.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: Mike on July 01, 2010, 02:57:03 PM Has you car ever been into a front end collision.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: JulsV6 on July 01, 2010, 03:54:00 PM Nope- neva been in collision.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: Mike on July 01, 2010, 05:45:17 PM Hmmm... I' quite stumped on this one. Bring it by Pauls and have him give it a try your in that area if I'm not mistaken.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: JulsV6 on July 01, 2010, 06:44:54 PM About an hour drive. I'll check with him n mayb have him install my tl-s front swaybar while at it. We'll see.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: NVA-AV6 on July 02, 2010, 09:50:25 AM Nuespeed strut bar= 5mins
Front sway=3-4 hours. Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: CYANiDE on July 02, 2010, 12:24:14 PM Nuespeed strut bar= 5mins Front sway=3-4 hours. I got front and rear done is 2 hours although the mechanic was being a chach and wanted to charge more b/c of how much of a pain in the ass it was. Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: MyNameIsThien on July 02, 2010, 05:58:53 PM I usually get the fronts done in about an 45 minutes to an hour. Well, I have a lift and everything.
Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: JulsV6 on July 13, 2010, 02:15:40 PM Still no luck gettn this neuspeed stb and front TL-S sway bar on :'(
I think the stb is bent lil too much from previous car it was on. It just won't slide on, and not aligned by far! I bought my car brand new so def had no front end collision. ::) so I'm still puzzled to my next step. :-[ this sucks! My DIY attempt keeps runnin into a wall. Title: Re: Trouble installing Neuspeed Strut tower bar on my 7.5gen Post by: timot_one on July 13, 2010, 03:01:54 PM You may want to just bring your car to Paul.
