Title: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: Paulius005 on June 02, 2010, 11:19:47 PM The first time I experienced this was during a lightning storm. A bolt of lightning hit in the sky and my Escort 8500 said Low Voltage, and my stereo shut off then everything turned back on in a second. This is happened two more time after this. Would this kind of problem be solved with a voltage stabilizer or is the more of an alternator type of problem? Or some freak accident with the lighning that results in me scrapping the car?
Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: CrackerTeg on June 02, 2010, 11:26:47 PM That's weird. I'd say you start with a basic alternator and battery load test. See what that gives you. The static electricity in the air could be fucking with things in a weird ass way.
Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: cna on June 03, 2010, 01:44:23 AM Double check all your grounds connections also . and before trying a voltage stabilizer have you upgraded the big 3 you might see improvement on your issue if so.
Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: Paulius005 on June 04, 2010, 12:46:21 PM I already have a big 3 upgrade.
Battery and alternator tests are fine. Now I'm confused. I'm gonna go redo every ground i've ever touched then..., Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: Mike on June 04, 2010, 01:28:15 PM I get a bit of a Voltage drop at times but, not enough for anything to turn off. What type of accessories do you have in your car? Is it possiable that something is shorting out.
Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: cna on June 04, 2010, 09:01:02 PM I know when i had a lose ground hanging around it caused my radio to turn of and on driving me crazy till i found and tighten it problem fixed.
Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: Paulius005 on June 05, 2010, 06:25:46 PM yeah i gotta go through my fog grounds and amp grounds... i don't have subs yet just amped speakers.
Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: Mike on June 05, 2010, 11:08:14 PM Is it possible that your amp is drawing to much for your alternator to handle?
Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: CrackerTeg on June 06, 2010, 09:21:15 AM May not be if he's only pushing interior speakers. Like Clemente said, it could be a bad/ loose ground somewhere. Paulius has changed things from factory configuration so anything he's changed could be the culprit.
Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: Paulius005 on June 19, 2010, 06:16:37 PM It was actually just a loose wire on my battery terminals... the one that goes to the fuse boxes.
My car actually ended up throwing a CEL so I immediately stopped and checked all my connections and found that. Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: timot_one on June 19, 2010, 10:38:52 PM Good to see that you found the problem. I was guessing it was a bad ground, but at least I wasn't too far of.
Title: Re: Strange Low Voltage Drop Post by: Paulius005 on June 20, 2010, 03:17:13 AM Yeah AutoZone ran the code at AutoZone and they said it was either a failed ECU or a short somewhere. I assumed since my car was moving it wasn't the ECU.
