Title: G35 Wheel Opinions
Post by: Accord Euro-R on April 22, 2010, 11:39:41 AM
Hey guys, the girl I'm seeing right now is going to be purchasing a 2007 G35 Coupe...and wants me to modify her car for her.  Of course I am more than happy to oblige, and while most parts I have found are straight forward...I am having trouble deciding which wheels.  She has given me free range, and as she has already approved all of the choice below I need opinions on which will look best.  I am going to go (J D M) style with this car so please keep that in mind.

The car is Caribbean Blue:

The general wheel format is going to be:
Front: 18x7.5
Rear: 18x8.5
Staggered Setup, dropped on Tein S-Tech springs (1.2" F, .9" R)

Lemme know what you think:
Ti-5 (Black w/ Neo Chro Lip)

XXR 6 (Black w/ Blue Anonized Lip) (She liked them bc they were "cute")

Out of all those wheel choices, I like none of them.  In my opinion, they won't look that good on that car.

The G35 has so much potential for wheel fitment, why are you going with those sizes?  I would run wider wheels with some nice size tires.

Well unfortunately budget is also an issue....otherwise believe me Volks, Rays, and Gram Lights would be in the picture.  The sizes are up for debate as long as I can keep in UNDER $2,000

Since you're asking for opinions, I think all of those wheels are butt ugly.  Tell your girl to save her money and buy something good, and not go cheap on wheels.  Only wheel whores that change their rims every other week buy garbage wheels.  If you want a real J.D.M. look, I'd go with  a set of NISMO LMGT4's
(http://www.mossyperformance.com/ProdImages/nismo_lmgt4_silver.jpg)
or the old J.D.M. standby Volk TE37's.

$2k for wheels or wheels and tires?

You can find some nice sets of wheels for under or about $2k if you're willing to buy used.

Honestly, stock will look way better than any of the wheels that have been pictured above.

I would save the money until you can pick up something nice.  I'd also look into running at least a 9.5" or 10" wheel in the rear, and at least a 9" wheel in the front.  255 width tire in the front, 275 width tire in the rear.  If you can get 10.5" or 11" wheels, you can push upwards of a 285 or 295.

To be honest why would you replace stock wheels made by Volk for any of that shit? I 100% agree with Tim on the Nismo's, and I saw them posted somewhere recently pretty cheap. Where escapes me but, they were within your buget.

Thanx for the advice guys.  I talked to her and she doesn't mind going to a bigger wheel, and she up-ed the budget a tiny bit to $2500.  I found that all the Ti-5 wheels (the first 3) come in a staggered setup of:

Front: 19x9.5
Rear: 19x10.5

Any clue as to what tire size I need for those? Every "package" site I have been to for those says call for tire prices.

Keep the stock wheels....I've seen them in person and they look damn good.  They look better than all of your after-market options.

I agree.  Definite downgrade.  And if you're actually going to be putting those wheels on her car, she deserves a better boyfriend.

I agree with everyone else. Stick with OEM wheels, and instead maybe get a drop or something.

Title: Re: G35 Wheel Opinions

If you had to choose any one of those options, I'd say the 5-Zigens. Definite fuck no to the others. I like te Te37's Tim posted but I'm partial to the GT-P's. Honestly, stick with the oem wheels and go for a solid suspension setup with that budget. If she's adamant about changing the wheels, PC the OEM's to satiate her desire to change them. And definitely don't allow "cute" wheels. If my wife ever told me that shit, I wouldn't bother looking at those EVER.

That was my feeling...the blue w/ gold wheels is typical of J.D.M cars.  My only issue is that the gold with the neo chro lip might be too much...

wow, all of those wheels are really really really fucking ugly...I saw the pic of the car and was like "nice" then I saw your wheel choices, and I threw up in my mouth.  I'd put the money into suspension and performance.  God those wheels are FUGLY!  Keep them stock and PC them gun metal like mentioned, or the NISMO ones that Tim posted are sick, but I would keep them stock.  I can't even believe that companies make wheels that look like that, those colors and rainbow shit, well I think I've said enough.  Good luck

If she wants the TI look these are the   ONLY (http://www.prodrive-shop.com/Unnamed%20Site%201/57s%20pro%20titanium%20coat.jpg) wheels I would consider!

Post a picture of the stock wheels.  If they are the 19" Rays Forged please, please, don't get any of the ones you posted.  The stockies own all the ones you posted.

OK here the thing...she is looking at 2 different G35's right now.  They are literally the exact same car, except one has about 4k less miles and different rims.

Car with more miles, but closer location: (Chantilly, VA)

OEM 17x7

Car with less miles, but further away & more expensive: (Irving, TX)(Pictured above)

Get the car with the stock 19s, use the money you would have spent on the rims and tires.

Tires, P225/50VR17 Front & P235/50VR17 Rear is what i see for the specs of the one you claim has 19"s, so it pretty much comes down to which style rim you like now, both are 17"s

Negative Ghostrider. The ones in the original pic he posted are most definitely 19's. Those are Rays wheel as opposed to the Enkeis(?) that are 17's.

I'd like some of what you're smoking.  As already stated before, the G35's come with both 17's and 19's depending on the wheel package.  Are you just not accepting what you're being told, or do you live in an alternate reality?

Can't you just admit that you are wrong?  I mean, it's just sad now.  You're making yourself look really bad with all this self inflicted pwnage.  Acting like an asshole doesn't change the facts.

Just an update:

She ended up saying fuck both both the G35's and ended up getting a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T Track Model in about that same color blue.  My buddy Frank is also selling her his Volk GT-V's off his 240SX so everything turned out OK afterall.

That list should be pulled down if you ask me. His girl already picked up a totally different car and is getting wheels that aren't even on the list. Kinda funny if you ask me.
Here's a pic I found of Genesis on GT-V's. Not blue but still hot.

ooh, i like the genesis.. i'm undecided about the part around the headlights still, but they do look good slammed..

one recommendation, since i'm not sure what kind of width and offsets the Genesis coupe can pull off, is to make sure the wheels she is buying are the proper width and offset for her car.

She picked Korean over Japanese? Ouch. Well, even though it doesn't matter any more since she didn't get the G35, the stock Rays wheels are far superior to anything else. I've always loved those wheels!
