Title: Strange smell - Heater Post by: CYANiDE on March 28, 2010, 01:32:30 AM Not sure where this would go..but here's my best shot.
Lately, I've noticed that after running my heater for a while (30 mins or so) and/or riding on the highway, my heater gives off a strange smell for about 30 seconds where it smells like something burning or something. Don't even know how to explain it. I'm not a crazy driver, this happens when I'm not driving hard, normal city cruising or 60mph highway driving. Anything I should be worried about? [p.s. before I get any corny "it's cyanide poison" jokes - it doesn't smell like burning almonds] Title: Re: Strange smell - Heater Post by: cna on March 28, 2010, 04:10:01 AM What was the last time you changed your cabin filter? have you looked into your engine bay to see if anything is loose or stuck in there?

No clue I bought the car about a year ago. Don't know if its ever been changed. I do have a replacement cabin filter in my house. Going to change it today then. That's a one minute thing. Only other thing I see is that where the air compressor takes in air from (my HID wires and fuses are also there - in the same area) But I don't think it'd smell like burning because I've opened up the actual engine bay and can't smell anything burning from there. just to be sure i'd also check your coolant to make sure there isnt a leak there. a leak there can cause a brief smell of fuel while driving Title: Re: Strange smell - Heater Post by: Icebox on March 29, 2010, 02:58:50 PM but wouldnt the smell be sweet versus burnt if coolant were leaking?

Maybe there for like 5-10 seconds at most. Coolant has been at the same level since I bought the car. Don't think that's leaking. Thanks though. |
